    I'm more scared of this then when free-soloing WI5! Painful to imagine being up there!

    Great informative video. Did she just lower you down after you got to the top?

    • @richardpattison6447

      Thanks Phil. Yes, I climbed first and got lowered from the ~20 slings wrapped around the corkscrew. The final ~3m above those slings is unprotected, easy but really exposed. Melissa seconded, basically a top rope, cleaned the gear, then she untied from the rope, re-threaded through the slings and I then lowered her. It's an awesome experience... you'll love it :o)

      Thanks Richard. When you said re threading through the slings. which means your rope will be rubbing off from the 20 slings?

    • @richardpattison6447
      @richardpattison6447 Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah, just to clarify that: When I was on lead, I put my own giant locking carabiner through the ~20 slings to be lowered. When Melissa climbed, I think there was a giant rappel ring and carabiner on the ~20 slings that she threaded through, and retrieved mine. I guess that's standard/recommended practice for lower-offs, using your own gear for the first lower-off so less wear & tear on the "fixed" gear.

    Curious about the half/twin ropes. Was there a reason?

    • @richard_pattison
      @richard_pattison  Před 4 lety +2

      I think the twin ropes is because we're not American ;o) Dunno, but I think typically overseas most climbers use 2 ropes. Besides, you can abseil (rappel) 60m to the ground from the belay just below the boardwalk, so 2 ropes means 1 less abseil. Yes, we could have 1 thicker rope and a pull chord, but I like the security and ease of 2 "proper" ropes. Thanks for watching and for commenting, Rich. :o)

    Will a 70 get you to the ground?

    • @richard_pattison
      @richard_pattison  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi, yes you can rappel the route with a 70m rope, but, you'll need to rap each pitch. You can rappel from the 2nd anchor to the ground with 2 x 60m ropes... Rich.

    They say men are more capable, but the flexibility advantage many women have can be a real difference. Lets just say women aren't taking aback seat at this...
