Sambas have been a cultural icon in the UK and the rest of Europe for decades
I believe it!
Yeah, just said the same thing. The samba and gazelle were mega in the uk during the 90s.
That is literally the point of the entire video.
I'm Neapolitan, Italy. There a culture here over suede, samba. They rappresent history and future. Living in the present.
@David Marks no truer words have ever been spoken lol. Being a fanatical leeds fan I know all about that.😂
Back when English schools made you wear a uniform but allowed trainers, the black and white Samba was the go-to trainers. Worn by school kids, footy fans, casuals and anyone who like themselves a nice pair of trainers- no show beats up better. Our northern cities like Liverpool and Manchester still rock them in the highest numbers.
That’s amazing man. The samba has had quite the legacy! Thanks Darth Bossk 💪
Been to Manchester and can confirm the amount of Adidas worn up there is amazing. Sambas galore.
And in Newcastle upon Tyne and the north east
From 94-2005 the Adidas samba is the only shoe I'd wear. Especially the blue suede samba.
They were mega huge in the uk back then. Bands like oasis made them super popular in the 90s. If you was into britpop/indie music, then you had a pair of samba and the gazelle.
Hey Liam, thanks for sharing that brotha. Yeah man I want to do a video on brit pop and terrace shoes here in the future!
@@NachoAverageFinds that would be awesome bro! 👍
In the UK know a days it's always Black AF1s
I'd pick Gazelle's any day.
@@ProfittttNDO my misses loves her AF1, but I regressed back to wearing the kicks I had in middle school in the early 90s, like Reebok pumps, huarache, 180s, Jordan's. But where I live in Nottingham, you just see kids in AF1 and Jordan 1 mids predominantly.
My favourite Adidas silhouette of all time! I miss the vibrant range of colours that was available in the 90s. Sambas are always in my rotation. From Cape Town, South Africa.
One of the best silhouettes out there for casual wear. Thanks for watching Ashraf! Peace to Cape Town ✌️
I love the fact that here in Brazil, this is a very unknown shoe. Even though football is the most popular sport here, they're for a specific public, and not even football players wear it.
Again. Another great video. Sneaker knowledge in full effect! Teaching the masses. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Al!!
This one was one i was waiting for!! can make one for the Gazelle's as well?
The Gazelle is actually my favorite adidas model it’s definitely on the list
Idk why but whenever I be playing soccer with my friends, I see them usin those Adidas shoes, or a Nike Shoes. I honestly miss 2014 when there was the world cup... pain...
You getting old 😂
2022 ;)
I've been rockin' Sambas as my daily driver since like '97. Loving all the special editions being put out, something fun and useful to collect! Really liking the Wales Bonner in green right now.
52 year old casual from England. Great video and respect for the nod to the casuals. Mamba/Bamba and Samba , with Adidas Kick as the gateway drug 😎
Thank you mate! Happy New Year
I love this series, I discovered your channel about 2 weeks ago and I binge watched all of the sneaker history videos, great content
Hey thank you !! Glad you stayed with us 💪
Yo, Brian. My name is Fabian, and I'm here to tell you 2 things. 1 that it's great that you uploaded this video about the history of the Adidas Samba so fast and 2 you should do a video about the history of the Dr Martens. I know they're not sneakers but they're really cool shoes and you should also tell how the Doc Martens revolutionized the world of British Punk Rock and the British took over the company after it was first founded in Germany in 1947.
Mang Adrian, I’m super flattered dude! Definitely keep for getting forgetting about Doc Martens. I had some back in the day! Good suggestion 💪💪
I loved wearing these because they matched just about everything I wore and the gum outsole wasn't white. Because of this they didn't look as dirty as time went on.
Side note: I've been finding a lot of Mizuno running shoes at the discount chains. The quality is outstanding.
Mizuno is so underrated!
Any experience with Karhu? I'm looking forward to trying on a pair at Fleet Feet. I learned that they had the 3 stripe logo first, but sold it to Adidas for cash and whiskey.
Excelente video y grandes recuerdos con las sambas. Las miro y recuerdo a mi padre y al fútbol. Great video as always, guys. Love ya ❤️
It was mostly the Adidas Superstar or Gazelle that I saw people wear, but when I saw a Samba, it was definitely my favourite.
As a side note Bryan, you could really do with a nice display behind you for all those sneakers 👍
recently got a pair weeks ago in an outlet and i was impressed by the quality of the materials and comfort. These are just the same shoes that goes with everything
Thanks for making video about the Adidas samba. Really love this sneaker and the story behind it.
Everytime I'm so stoked by these really good researched history stories. Best YT channel imo 💯
Appreciate that ! most known unknowns at this point 😂😂
Hi guys. Just want to say that, i really like your videos. The honesty and simplicity, turn them in a very pleasant thing to watch. You should do one about the adidas spezial. This was a shoe made for team handball players, and was very popular in early 90's. Probably has a nice story too. Best regards.
Just discovered your channel , finding your videos really interesting and enjoyable plus the wide range of trainers you're covering is really refreshing, keep up the good work
Your video is very insightful around the whole history and design for Samba, I own a pair and found them really comfortable to wear, thanks for the content :)
I’m really happy you got some value out of it.
Samba is an icon in Europe and in most states in Australia 🇦🇺 it’s a must have !!!!! Great sneaker forever immortalise
It’s under appreciated in the United States 🤷♂️
@@NachoAverageFinds yeah I don’t no why !!! You boys love ❤️ your nikes a bit too much !!! Lol 😂
Another great Video. A Suggestion: what about the history of the Puma DISC system? That would be awesome!
The disc blaze is by far one of my favorite puma models
So nice seeing how the channel grew, as always dope 🙌🏿
Appreciate you Stephen! Hope all is well man
this is the sneaker that transcends various subcultures and ages. being available for decades without having to worry to fight with sneaker scalper collectors to own one.
thank you so much on making a video about my favorite style of Adidas, Adidas Sambas.... i own a pair of white with black stripe Adidas samba classic and they are so so comfortable..... once again thank you so much on making this vid.... have a great day
This was one of my favorite everyday sneakers back in College. And yes it's a timeless classic for me, it's not just a phase.
A great sneaker through and through. Thanks for watching Renato 💪💪
@@NachoAverageFinds You're Welcome! You guys have great sneaker content and I've been an avid viewer of your channel! (I hate how I just found out that I haven't subscribed yet, don't worry, I'm a subscriber now)
Thank you for the video. Very informative, as usual. 😀
Havent heard you guys for a long time. Maybe do history of Bapestas. I grew up with the Bape movement back in 2004, so this definitely will be interesting
Awesome video as always fellas, and huge fan of your channel! Interesting take on how Samba got its name (1:45)… according to Torben Schumacher, Adidas GM: “Samba has always been for the people. adidas didn’t actually name it - ‘Samba’ was the nickname by fans of the shoe, inspired by some fancy footwork on the soccer field in the 1960s. It has been truly rewarding for us to see this most recent wave of love for the shoe. It’s a silhouette which lends itself to effortless style and carries a history which speaks for itself. We’ve loved seeing each and every interpretation, from football fans in stadiums to the most stylish figures in the world.”
I love the OG Sambas their legit my favorite sneaker and I love your videos!!!
Thanks for the Continued support
Great video. To add further context for the Samba, one of the major reasons it became popular here in the US in the late 70's and early 80's was due to the North American Soccer League NASL. Think of the NASL as that era's version of MLS although much more outlandish for a variety of reasons. About half the teams in the league during that time period played on AstroTurf, and players needed a shoe that could withstand the hard surface since traditional football boots would not work. Enter the Samba which was first imported into the US around that time. Since many of the top players in the league wore Sambas, many parents who attended games with their children decided to buy them for when their children played since many city fields along with middle/high school stadiums had AstroTurf. Even after the NASL folded in 1984, the Samba's popularity remained high due to many players in the indoor league Major Indoor Soccer League or MISL wearing it along with the subcultures you mentioned in the video.
The original Samba in my view is the best shoe Adidas has ever made even though Adidas tried to discontinue it in the late 90's when they introduced the Samba Millennium which was basically the Samba upper with a modern sole and EVA cushioning to bring the shoe into the new century. Unlike the original, the Millennium only found popularity among indoor football players and Adidas stopped making it in 2012 in favor of simply continuing the original.
I wanted to ask/add, and I’m sure I could do my own research, but do you know when they started making the “OG” (smaller tongue, slightly slightly less-wide sole, other minor differences compared to the “Classic”)? I have only owned pairs of the Classic silhouette, and I also have a pair of Classics with the shorter leather tongue and all leather lining. I wish they would make/release more colorways in the Classic silhouette! It really seems like the better shoe. From the actual pitch to whatever else I want, best shoes ever.
Edit: I wish they still made this updated cushioning samba you speak of!!! I’d love to try a pair
@@griffcoleman they started making the OG back in 2020 as more of an authentic version of the Samba.
Keep up the good work man!👏🏻
Thank you will Do
I had my first pair of Samba's after having Mamba & Bamba.
I had Adidas Kick before all of 'em, these were very popular at school.
Other Samba colab's that deserve a mention are Stone island which had a zip and also C.P company which look great in my opinion.
Thanks Lee! I gotta check those two collars out
Thanks for doing this video, though I knew a lot of the info already being an Adidas originals fan I still found it very interesting. I've been wearing Samba (super) since the late 80s and still wear them today. I started wearing Adidas mainly coz I need a wide fit and I prefer a flat sole.
Definitely subscribe 🤙
Thanks for another great video guys!
Thank you for watching 😎
the original skate sambas were kinda handi-capable. lol. they worked but the soles were redone so they didnt have the hex tread. and the bottoms had an "emblem" cushion that prevented board feel. The newer ones that just came out are literally just classic sambas with an aditough tongue to prevent injury. Way awesome.
Well made video guys keep up the great work.
Thank you Job! Appreciate you watching
Always looking forward for again a great video. Loved the one on the rise of (Asics) Tiger.
Hey thanks for tuning in 😎
Your channel is an incredible resource.
Thank you Daniel
Was always eye ballin to get myself a pair, but when the hype arrived my size was sold out. Instead I settled for a pair of Stan smiths, hopefully they restock soon so I can get a pair. Good brief history on the shoe though 👍 always happy to watch the vids
Still can’t go wrong with a pair of Stans tho 🤷♂️
Always got the dope history lesson 💯
Appreciate you Shawn
Seeing how you spoke about cycling in the video, if you haven’t already you should check out the VeloSambas. They are a samba with a recessed clip in access for spd bike pedals.
Another solid vid keep it up guys. 👌
Thanks Manuel! Appreciate you
Soccer icon Pele ' wore them in the late seventies when he was imported from Brazil to be the star of the now defunct New York Cosmos .
When i first got into sneakers a couple years ago i was mainly hooked on Adidas stuff, and i wanted to get the black shelltoes because they looked like classic soccer cleats. It was honestly this video that introduced me to the Samba which was even closer to the look i wanted and so i got excited and eventually bought a pair. Now i see them everywhere and it's kinda neat, even though I'll still be rocking them after they're no longer fashionable and will feel somewhat uncool lmfao
Another great sneaker history video!
Thank you Dylan!
Got a pair that I’m skating in now.
True classic.
i ride fixed gear bikes and the sambas are durable (both the sole and the leather upper) so when your shoe is going in and out of pedal straps for fixed gear it's not a problem. Also the waffle pattern is a good interface of pedals. And the leather is nice in colder climates
Yesss! Thanks for taking up my suggestion!!! 🎉 ⚽ Samba ⚽
It’s been on the list for awhile hope we did it justice 😎
I used to rock these with a white beater and umbro shorts. Speaking of which, I might need to buy all 3 soon 😂
great video !! Thanks man ...
I bought my first pair of addidas samba in 1977 I was aged 16 at the time ...
Iv also had my current pair since 2012 ,great shoe imo
My favorite Samba memory was using them to kick a 40 yard field goal in 11th grade. We played on astroturf.
sambas, formel 1s (formula 1s), rod lavers, stan smiths........ outside adidas-- the jack purcells, puma clydes & suedes........ ALWAYS IN MY ROTATION!!!
Great selection 😎
They have the velosamba for bike clips now. So sick. Love the cream color ones. Almost bought a pair just for the color
Thanks for this!!! 🙌🏾🙏
Felt the sneaker needed it 💪
I'm 49 now so 38 yrs ago @south coast England we were all into Adidas jeans. They were swade and came in 2 colours pale blue or rust red. Only the rust was top notch. Blue- should have left em at home. They haven't sold them since I was a kid. Try and look em up. Adidas jeans. Those were "the" trainers were i was being dragged up. BTW luvin ya werk!
Great video.
Looked the football casual reference.
Thank you man
I used to wear Sambas to school in the early 80’s in the UK. Today’s Samba is a completely different shoe.
WHen did the Samba get butchered you could still by Proper Samba what hey now call " Super Samba " in Debenhams in 2009 in black leather with he massive white rubber biit on he front and the blue suede version, so when did we get this pile of shit that looks like a skateboarding shoe?
Can't even tell ya how many amazing shoes I had growing up that I wish I kept and restored. Just got some adidas busenitz pro. Kind of a nod to a few classic adidas. And I got the superstar adv the skate version... For 32$!
This a classic kick. Silhouette reminds me of the Adidas gazelles. Would be nice if you did a video on that shoe also as or has a similar football background to it as well.
Love the Gazelles! Definitely want to do a video on those in the future. Thanks for watching Jay!
I had one pair of sambas and they were unbreakable, I swear I had worn them for like 7 seasons straight in indoor soccer and casually on the weekend.
Sambas are amazing! Great video !!
Thank you!!
I have both black and white, and white and black (long tongues) for 10+ years now. Great vid!
I like the white tongue 😛
My sambas have been my favorite shoe to drive in. Can’t beat that except maybe a puma speedcat
0:01 yes, the dunk. I was poor and they were my go tos since they were always on the discount walls :)
I used these as indoor soccer shoes growing up. They are a great shoe!
Thanks, just subbed, the best review for sambarose....
The white sambas with grey and blue accents are my favorite silhouette of this shoe
Yooo I've waited for this video for a long time 😭😭😭
I have been wearing Sambas since high school. Always have a pair in my closet. I'm 57 years old and still wearin em!
Gr8 content guys ✊👏🌟☝️..Yesterday the samba since the 80’s popular here in the EU by Hippie’s , skaters, bboyz, Rappers. Rockers ETC....Legendary model Sure..But in MY honest opinion if we talk about 3 stripes oldskool kicks: The Campus has the nicest shape 👌
One of my favorite shoes I just like the low profile sole, minimal design and glove like feel
Yeah but the samba never had a low profile sole it had a massive white rubber toe on it, for football with grooves in it, so iit had a massive profile soul designed for football. This is not even a a Samba, it's a skate/ futsal shoe, nothing like what we had in Europe, and what for decades was sold as Samba and iconic and timeless , these sneaks now call a Super Samba
Got a pair earlier this year. Nice shoes and comfy
Great affordable pair Forsure 😎
The white ones are always dope. 🔥 great content guys
not a huge sneaker head but damn do i love me some adidas sambas. And as a messenger/courier. Yep theyre pretty much a staple for me. Low cut (good for ankle movement), stiff soles, nice casual understated style, and of course, come with the classic gum soles. What more do you need in a shoe? these shoes last for years of daily use and abuse. Im surprised i dont see more people wearing them.
Hi, Just subscibed! Brilliant video and very informative. Please would you do a history of the Adidas Gazelle very soon? It is my favourite sneaker of all time and is a stylish classic design.
That my dad's favorite, I had more than 20 pairs of Samba growing up
Cool it’s definitely a mainstay On feet 🦶
Same lol. My dad Always keeps a fresh pair in the closet.
He started wearing them in the 70s and me the 90s.
@@TheRetroManRandySavage daaaang my dad on the 80s he was born in 68 if im not mistaken, yeah he had a bunch superstars, sambas, he even had a few Kareem Abdul's... to be honest I do not remember clearly how many I got but I can tell you I used the same kick every 7-10 days so my dad always kept me laced up... now he trynna make stop buying a bunch of shoes lol
Would love to see a video on the Puma Super Liga to compare!
Do a video of the Adidas Samba main Rival, The Puma Super Liga. Similar styles but the Adidas is more popular.
Ohhh that’s interesting. Thanks for the suggestion!
At some point in time, the Samba seamlessly turned into the Adidas version of the German Army Trainer and even featured the same iconic sole from the GAT, still seen with Sambas today. Adidas also makes its own copy of the original GAT, lacking the distinctive Adidas three bars. Sambas were also made with Kangaroo leather which was the most durable but these were eventually outlawed, resulting in using cow or synthetic leader being used today.
I remember all the kids wearing sambas to play football in my middle school. The black pair was the one to have if you played. I played in Jordans 😅. Idk if I would buy the black pair because of that, but I would definitely get a white pair of sambas.
I actually prefer the white pair as well thanks for watching
funny how these became hyped up in the US recently, in the UK these have been the go-to shoes of your average person (as well as the gazelle) you'll pretty much see them on the feet of most people here
Love the Gazelle it’s one of my favorites
just discovered this channel. i really dig it. im more of a punk dude and sambas are my jam. will probably be a lifelong buyer
Samba was that shoe made me fell in love with adidas. Was A Nike boy until samba came thru with it durability
💪💪💪 built tough
Great video 👍🏾👌🏾
Thanks big Daryl
I was about to ask for a video on these
I loved sambas i used them for fashion but also using them for soccer and they were amazing in both
Ive had the Mambas Bambas and Sambas over the years in fact I bought a pair of the Blue Suede Sambas today. There worn all over the north east of England especially Newcastle there classics the working class choice
I’d love to see a video on the samba supers, they’re my favourite trainer ever
Still a 1950's shoe. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Also the suede doesn't like to get wet. I only wear these shoes in the fall. No vents and no insulation.
I love my Adidas Busenitz which are basically sambas. I just got a pair of Ianuccis…which are sambas too.
Cheers boys!!!!!
I got my sambas a year ago and I love them
Cheers brotha 🙏
Got mine a year ago too. Immediately slapped in black laces.
@@SPNKr16 did they look cooler with the black?
The Busenitz are fire af too (w the cut-off tongue)
Yes those are Clean 🧼
First shoe I bought with my own money, super close to my heart! Just traded them out for some Puma Super Ligas tho, so we’ll see which is better!
That’s awesome man. Great first sneaker to buy! Good look with the ligas
Another banger! 🙏
Thanks Wendell! Appreciate it dude
I like the Sambas but my favourite are the Samba Super. I have 4 pairs in different colours. Grey suede with black stripes. Navy blue suede with white stripes, white leather with black stripes and the black leather with white stripes. Here in the North of the UK, namely Manchester, Liverpool and surrounding areas have been wearing the Samba super since forever. Just gutted that the price has risen so much suddenly.
I am an adi head for life! I have other brands, but they are my jam. Sambas are a staple for sure
Finally, another CZcams clipper fan
😂😂😂 it’s tough being a clippers Fan 😂
