I have a question? Is the a dowery involved with the marriage? I know that arranged marriages with those requirements are still in place in some countries. Does this affect that cost of what is spent for the wedding, the reception, the traditions, and the gold ornaments, the professional makeup, hair, and all of the clothing and foods etc.? I am asking because I have known some Indian friends who came to America in order to not follow those traditions, as well as from other countries that still have arranged marriages. ( I know that this still happens in the USA, I am going by what the people I have become friends with over time.)

She is the main earner and could easily afford the first day, so we only see that small instant when his chlothes did not suit him properly. Maybe he gained a bit around the waist. Everything else is only for the second day. Maybe she would have chipped in if asked politely, but I only hear the Groom complaining.

The wedding planners were just helping her push her agenda of making her father-in-law spend more. One of the major duties of the wedding planner is to help the couple marry their expectations with reality.

And how he never put his foot down on how many additional people would be there, never advocated for any compromise or a plan to get the needs met…. just essentially enforced that she should suck it up and have a tacky wedding outside of what she/they envisioned bc HIS family wanna invite randos.

Indian culture is huge on family and community, so cousins and their families, friends, co workers etc. If someone is a part of social circle, they are invited .

I am pretty sure not every Indian wedding is like this. Only those who can afford it/ or want to seem like they can afford it would celebrate like that.

My parents spent @ $30,000 on my wedding in 1993 in the S.F. Bay Area in CA. Looking back, I really wish they would've spent maybe a quarter of that and then given us the rest for a down payment on a small house. Money ended up being a huge issue for us the first couple of years of our marriage and that would've taken the pressure off of us. All of our friends thought it was such a beautiful event/evening, but that's all it was. One evening. For $30,000. That money could have helped us get through the stress of the first couple years easily. Live and learn I guess. 🤷‍♀️ On a side note, Sukhi is a spoiled princess. Idk if they told them to play up these roles, but I didn't like how she didn't seem to care about "Papa D" or his retirement money. Why isn't the bride's family paying for some of this? Or is this part of their culture where the man pays the dowry sort of thing? Selfish is the theme of her wedding folks.

My mother and father paid for 2 large weddings for my 2 sisters. When my brother married my parents paid for the wedding rehearsal dinner and the wedding rings. All three weddings had around 250 guests. When I got married my father was only able to give me $3000. He had retired and my mother had passed. He just didn't have the extra money for a large wedding. I completely understood . I was just happy with what he could give. I used the money for my dress and 5 night at the Mirage in Vagas. We also saw 2 Circus Soli shows as part of our honeymoon. That $3000 was well used and we had a blast.
