    Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars like this 2020 Mazda CX-30. The 2020 CX-30 is a subcompact SUV that slots between the slightly smaller and cheaper Mazda CX-3 and the pricier and roomier Mazda CX-5. It’s position in the Mazda lineup might be confusing but we found plenty to like about all-new CX-30, along some potential flaws.
    Here’s our test car’s information explosion.
    Information Explosion

    During our family review of the 2020 Mazda CX-30 we examine a range of practical details; passenger space, cargo space, child seat accommodations, safety, infotainment, engine performance, overall refinement, and price. What did we like and dislike? Watch and see. #MicahDrives

    Micah, you are one of the most thorough reviewers on CZcams. You point out things that other reviewers typically miss, like how high the belt-line is on the car, or the issues you had when putting in a child seat. You're doing and amazing job and I appreciate the time and effort your put into these reviews.

    I am a Mazda fan and wish there was a dealership closer to where I live, but, that cladding is too disproportionate to the rest of the body and the gaps between the top of the tires/wheels and the wheel arches are horrendous! I think the cladding really exacerbates it! I do enjoy and appreciate your approach to car reviews and look forward to the next one.

    As a 64 year old with an older hubby with Parkinson's, I've been looking at this type of vehicle to make it easier for him to get in and out. I took my 2005 Mazda 6 Wagon, (which I still love to drive!) in for service at the dealer (airbag recall, AGAIN!) and I checked out the CX 30. Great interior, but the seat seemed narrow to me. And as you pointed out Micah, a very high belt line. I'm sure it does drive like a Mazda, but I have a hard time getting past those other issues. Perhaps if I were about 30 years younger!! I love watching your videos though, and what a treat to see your sweet wife!! Keep doing what you do Micah!!

    Great video as always! I really like Mazdas, but this one does not "fit" me somehow. Love the new screen design, can't wait to see it implemented in 6 and CX9. I prefer a scroll wheel over a dirty screen and that's too much cladding used unimaginatively. The Muzios, however, are always a perfect fit. 👌👍👍

    @Algarinaruto Před 4 lety

    Thanks for the incredible review, Micah! It’s helped me try to decide on a first car buy between this CX-30 and a Seltos. My only remarks on the CX-30 have been its infotainment system and lack of creative body colors. :/ But it really beats the Seltos on drive quality... Buying a car for the first time is really hard man! How do you decide??

    • @ahlonkobruce7000
      @ahlonkobruce7000 Před 3 lety +4

      I ended up going with the CX-30 2021 over the Seltos and did not regret anything. The complements came in right off the bat, the cost is a tad bit higher but you know you're getting better quality. I hope you made your decision and hopefully it was the CX-30

  • @Soh90
    @Soh90 Před 4 lety +6

    I tested the CX-30 and was oddly disappointed. Key takeaways are:
    The car is tiny. Not much bigger than the CX-3. And at 6ft, I cannot sit behind myself, let alone put a car seat back there. The trunk is also tiny. Definitely among the smallest in class and I don’t care what the numbers say lol. I couldn’t even put my daughters stroller back there (she has a Nuna stroller).
    Material quality is good, but build quality is suspect. The center console jiggles when pressed, door panels squeak and warp just by pressing on it as well, and the arm rest use the same squishy material used in old Buick’s that crack after normal wear and scratch your elbow every time you try to rest your arm. Ask me how I know lol.
    I do LOVE the styling of the CX-30 both inside and out and I love that Mazda offers the more powerful 2.5L motor as standard. But for me, buying this car would be a mistake. The CX-5 has much better build quality and is much bigger for not much more. The C-HR and HR-V aren’t as pretty but are more spacious and I think the C-HR has better build quality as well. This subcompact segment as a whole doesn’t make much sense to me though so, whatever I guess.

  • @inodesnet
    @inodesnet Před rokem

    With regards to the car seat… Mazda headrests have a carve out of the back and can be inserted backwards for times when car seats are inserted. This way its still in place but doesn’t impact the car seat placement.
    The only headrests it doesn’t do this for are the 3rd row auto fold headrests in the CX-8 (Asia/Australia) and the CX-9 (Nth America/Australia)

      Regarding becoming a helicopter pilot, I won’t lie, it’s both difficult and expensive. I got my license back in 2008 so I’m not sure about current costs. But $15k for a private 🚁 license is a good ballpark figure.

    Unlike a lot of folks, the body cladding doesn't bother me after owning a Honda Element. Finally got to sit in one of these, but haven't yet driven. Not a fan of the blue interior accents. Also felt a cheapness in the opening/closing of the center console. Seating will take some getting used to...feels a bit low to me for the car being of a more elevated stance. Also sat in the CX3, which appeared to have the higher seating and oddly, felt higher off the ground. Seats in the CX3 feel like they could leave bruises...very stiff bolster on the sides of the seats like a sports car. Overall view and seating felt totally comfortable in CX5--nice ground clearance. Going to really have to sit down when the time comes to buy a new car and make a decision. Like all three of these offerings from Mazda. Want to see how the CX30 progresses as a future offering.

    Having the beltline higher, doesn't it make it safer in side impacts? If that's the case, it's worth the lack of your kid's visibility.
    Also I have a 2015 Mazda 3 and the brakes feel great. I have done one panic stop with them though, and I don't think it stopped in an impressively short distance. So although they feel great, I am not sure if they work as well as one might like. Also these Mazdas wear the rear pads at an unusual rate. That's another price you pay for the great feel.

      @MicahMuzio  Před 4 lety +2

    Looks like you can't fold the rear seats down anywhere near flat without them hitting the front seats unless you are quite short and the front seats are up pretty far. Is this the case? I am just under 6ft tall and wonder if this would be a problem.

    • @redroadstar2366
      @redroadstar2366 Před 3 lety

      I'd advise moving the front seat forward or removing the headrests before putting the rear seats down.
      You can move the front seats back again to the furthest setting after folding the rear seats down.

    Is the headrest reversible? Still suboptimal but at least it's not loose.

    I don't like high belt lines and short windows. That's one styling fad that needs to die. I'd probably look at a Subaru Forester first just for its outward visibility, but whatever I buy I'd think long and hard as to whether I could put up with any obstructions long term. Bling spot warning doesn't make up for poor design.

    Since this review was a "Family Review" I was waiting for Evie to drive the CX-30 and hear her comments and opinions. Hmmmm?

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  Před 4 lety +3

      Because of tight scheduling we don’t always have time to get Evie behind the wheel. But we’ll try harder moving forward to do so. She had a valuable perspective.
      FYI, we got Evie in the driver seat of something BIG. Video coming soon!

    Micah at the end of your videos you should have your daughter give each vehicle some kind of rating! It would be cute to think of what she thinks from her perspective!

    • @joshpinchuk7061
      @joshpinchuk7061 Před 4 lety

      I disagree, we should keep our kids out of the media. Sure have her in the video, but for your family safety, best to keep her out of the spotlight.

    • @ovp66223

      my top 3 must haves in a new car, 1- COMFORTABLE (long drives) seats, 2 - ventilated seats (southeast is humid/hot 1/3 of the year) and 3 - High quality audio...not over-bassed or muddy (ie, no BEATS audio...yuck). I want high quality and the systems like Bowers and Wilkins, ELS (in the Acura RDX) and Bang and Olufsen are what I am most stoked about, just not sure I want to spend $50k on an auto. I will say, audio systems are light years better than the two and four speaker setups of the 80s and 90s. Those speakers were bad as well, shallow and tinny. We've come a long way.
      Also too many SUV/cars with uncomfortable seats. Bolstering that makes legs or ribs sore after just a few minutes or overly firm seats or overly flat seats. Every time i sit in a Volvo I am in love (seats-wise). Wish I could put Volvo seats in another vehicle. Maybe we'll be able to build a car/suv ala carte from various parts.
