No USG Ishimura from DeadSpace? At least give it an honorable mention!
greyzongab the sprawl from dead space 2 is better imo
How the heck could you forget Dead Space??
It was to be expected form them, they put fnaf crap above dead space in most scary video games ever or something like that
Thanks you that what I just say
Right? I couldn't play it for more than an hour at a time when the first one came out. That scary. Damn you USG Ishimura
Cuz Dead Space 3. But I know what you mean. The first was the scariest since it was a space station with only you and a small crew with no form of outside communication, no way of escaping, and that damn regenerating necromorph that is always hunting you throughout the whole station.
you mean the USG ishimura?
So we just gonna pretend dead space didn’t exist!?
Chazbox720 no it didn't
Chazbox720 exactly lol really wish someone would remaster them
Mount Massive Asylum deserves to be in the Top 3 at least. Outlast was terrifying
The scariest place in videogames is the community, that place is still giving me nightmares
looking at you, Undertale fans
LOL, yeah. Never go deep into DeviantArt.
@@zachgilbert3815 Also Dragon Age. Seriously. On the other hand, small fandoms like Pathologic or Blasphemous seem to be pretty chill.
I know you were going more for "horror" games, but the very first time I ever got weirded out and legitimately frightened in a video game was Ravenholm in Half-Life 2. Even to this day, I will blast through there as fast as possible or just skip it with cheats *shudder*
Silent Hill 2 - The Apartments
Darkest than the night, full of some of the sickest monster ever conceived. Scary.
No Ravenholm in Half-Life 2?
No
dude totally agreed. This totally should have been on here.
That was certainly unsettling, especially with the game urging you to decapitate the zombies or setting them on fire. Then there are those fast ones that always scare the shit out of me.
Exactly!
No doubt the first time I heard the roar of those fast zombies was bone chilling. It seemed like they were talking about entire settings that's why Ravenholm wasn't there.
That generator level from The Last of Us
Laith Radhy
Yeah that was tense
Until dawn's sanatorium must be in there
Or generally something from the game
Entire game was spooky enough, but the Sanatorium part was definitely the scariest.
Am I the only one who is missing Ravenholm on this list? Sure, after playing the game 2nd and 3rd time it's not that scary but my first time playing that level was creepy AF
Sevastopol is easily the scariest location on this list. And where is Dead Space’s USG Ishimura? It’s probably the only location in gaming that measures up to Sevastopol! F.E.A.R. 2 - Project Origins Elementary School should also have gotten a mention.
For me the scariest place in video games are the micro transaction windows...
Moscow metro from Metro 2033 should also be here.
The Baker House?
SteveAlbertTV yeah, that place is making me iffy about ever going to Louisiana...
How is mount massive an honorable mention
I thought that was going to be number 1!
poppajonty I knew it wasn't gonna make it after I saw the castle from Amnesia.
So we’re gonna act like PT, Pathos 2 (from SOMA), The Last of Us, Metro, and Dead Space never happened?? Ok then. Oh and HOW IS MOUNT MASSIVE AN HONORABLE MENTION??
Raptor 3698 or The Evil Within
The underground tube levels from Metro were creepy, the one where it is just you and a guide in long, dark tunnels full of monsters
They only have 10 slots.
SOMA sometimes had scarier moments than Alien Isolation ever had. It all depends on the taste though. No video game left me awake more nights than the ethical dilemas SOMA left me with.
Alien isolation my fav game of all time!!! Sounds are the scariest thing in it
#1 school
hieu nguyen True. I get nightmares every night about that place.
i would be what you guys would call a nerd because i loved school and my favorite classes was literature and history.
Solid list, although one thing you forgot to mention about Silent Hill that makes it especially horrifying is that the horror itself is, in a sense, alive, and how the horrors of the town will manifest will actually change based on the psychology of the one unlucky enough to find themselves within. Haunted by guilt? You'll be persued by an unstoppable killer that represents your dark side. Haunted by the memory of your parents? They will be reborn in a form that most exploits what made you afraid. THAT is why Silent Hill always scared me so much; it's a town of horror that literally makes it personal, like the town itself hates YOU.
That really only happens in Silent Hill 2 and the ones that copied it. It was not the same in the other original games.
Half truth. Admittedly, Harry's and Heather's journey's weren't as directly personal as James' or Travis', but the scares still often times went after knowledge of them; a good example would be when Cheryl appeared on all of the broken TV sets, calling out to him. Not quite a Customized for his personal nightmare as those of 2 or 0rigins, but still a lot more personal than places like the Resident Evil or Fatal Frame franchises did, which would likely be the same regardless of whomever was experiencing it.
Mount Massive seriously unnerved me. I was shocked to see it as only an honourable mention.
I think the Tall Trees area of Red Dead Redemption deserves at least an honorable mention. I always found myself creeped out when wandering around that part of the map because of how dense the forest felt, especially at night. Add in the fact that a huge goddamn grizzly or a mountain lion can ambush you at any time and it was most definitely unnerving.
Garrus1995 that is actually what I was thinking
Garrus1995 exactly
The music definitely helps. That blackwater soundtrack was so eerie. Lol, but I liked the Tall Trees as it was a money pit. I'd go in there, hunt some grizzlies, elks and boars, head to MacFarlane Ranch or Armadillo General Store and average around 400-500 bucks for what I sold. Yep *spits* Tall Trees weren't too bad.
brother from another mother!!
i was thinking the same...
plus
never try it on weed
No Ravenholme from Half Life 2? Shame on you guys...
They only have 10 slots for entries. Doesn't mean that they aren't scared.
Yeah ravenholme
You know what scares me? The word; bejesus…
Sorry sir this is a Christian server no swearing
no USG ISHIMURA? not even in the honorable mention
They only have 10 slots for entries. Doesn't mean that they aren't scared.
Have no idea what people are thinking, but Sevastopol Station from Alien Isolation should've been, without a doubt, ranked #1...smh
I’m just glad S.T.A.L.K.E.R got mentioned
And just in time before the next emission.
I've read that the fog in Silent Hill 1 wasn't supposed to add more tension/horror but to allow the developers to not place objects in far distance in order to avoid ugly pop ups.
You guys should do top 10 show intros that got us hyped
The bottom of the well from Ocarina of Time should at least be an honorable.
TheShiniest Totodile yeah almost didnt finish the n64 version because of it the 3d remaster made it bearable lol
Nice one.
dammn watchmojo awesome list isnt it guys
Papa Doom .
Nah outlast 2 the school should have been here also the dark areas of resistance 2
Nope
No SCP Containment Breach in the list
The ishamora from dead space
Ravenholm from Half Life 2?? Suddenly the epic journey becomes a horror nightmare as soon as you enter this place. The intro music, the creatures, the setting, it was a perfect example of a scary place in a non-scary game.
Excellent 1st pick!
USG Ishimura, the most terrifying location I have ever been to in all honesty
If you’re going to make a second one of these I would definitely suggest the house from Layers of Fear and the house from Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
The Shalebridge Cradle from thief deadly shadows, scared the crap out of me.
No ishimura from dead space?
Dude Mount Massive Asylum is one of the craziest and scariest places in videogame history, yet its honorable mention?
dwayne werleman is that place real? Like in real life?
WAR& DEATH
Well, it was inspired by a real life Asylum (Richardson Olmsted Complex, Buffalo, New York), but only regarding the architecture. Nothing horrible ever happened there.
WAR& DEATH Inspired by a couple real Asylums in America
You forgot about Ocean Hotel in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines!
DeeFenk I was just about to say that...
Hanuda Village from Siren: Blood curse should’ve at least got an honorable mention
P.T. the corridor should be here
Dead Space
and Halo CE (the original) mission 343 Guilty Spark. If anyone here, played it back in the days, coming across this mission for the first time not knowing about the flood, you were probably just as scared as me.
Would of had the stem from Evil Within series on here, and Ravenholm, but pretty solid list.
Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows. And the first game had the Haunted Cathedral.
The Cave of the Past in Earthbound gives me nightmare even worse with the final boss second to last phases
One place that creeped the heck outta me was after you fell down the elevator in Pittsburgh the hotel in Last of Us. Those stalkers scared me outta my pants when I first played Last of Us lol
Wonderland - American McGee's Alice / Alice: Madness Returns
Anywhere - F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
Anywhere - Sherlock Holmes games (Creepy Watson, lol)
Lavender Town - Pokemon
USG Ishimura / The Sprawl / Tau Volantis - Dead Space 1 / 2 / 3
Raccoon City - Resident Evil 2 / Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Baker House - Resident Evil 7
Bottom of the Well / Shadow Temple - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Innsmouth, Massachusetts - Call of Cthulhu
Schoolhouse - Corpse Party
Hinamizawa - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni / When They Cry (started as a visual novel, so technically a video game?)
Rokkenjima - Umineko no Naku Koro ni / Umineko When They Cry (same?)
Carcer City - Manhunt
Metro City - Condemned: Criminal Origins / Condemned 2: Bloodshot
no mention of the Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows?
The Watchmojo taffers didn't play through the two great and one decent Thief games.
Tsk tsk. Off to Cragscleft Prison with them.
I expected to see Central Park from Alone in The Dark (2008). I got goosebumps every time I saw human-like silhouettes walking in the mist at night.
An area that wasn't meant to be creepy but ended up being creepy was this one area is halo 2. It's in the original on delta halo in the room where you have to press a button to lower a bridge. A creepy and ominous song plays when you're in the room and there's a hologram of the prophet regret in the middle singing a like a monk. It freaked me out when I first played it and it still does.
Instead of Yharnam as a whole I'd much rather seen The Research Hall instead maybe even in a higher position.... that place creeped the shit outa me.
More specifically for Bloodborne: Yahar’gul, Unseen Village
Being killed by a creepy dude with a sack full of bodies is bad enough but waking up in an unknown place with a hellish choir singing the most unsettling melody gave me actual nightmares
"It's being invaded by the Otherworld. By a world of someone's nightmarish delusions come to life..." RIP Harry Mason
*Scrolls through CZcams*
*Sees Alien:Isolation thumbnail*
*Clicks video without thinking twice*
Where is USG Ishimura or the Titan station from Dead Space 1and 2?
I haven't played Fatal Frame since I was four, and I still have flashbacks from that shit
1.Columbia Bioshock
2.Mount massive aslyum Outlast
3.Fnafs pizzeria
4.Castle amnesia
5.Diner the last of us
6.Plauged America Red dead
7.The woods Don't starve
8.The hotel from Ghost busters
9.The krypt mk X
10.Africa resident evil.
No Silent Hill on your list, your list is invalid!
No mention of the USG Ishimura or Titan Station from the Dead Space games?
the hotel from Vampires the Masquerade Bloodlines really creeped me the hell out.
amazingly designed,
also Ocarina of Time Hyrule Field AT NIGHT! (god dam Poes!)
Honestly slendermans forest and maybe the bottom of the well or shadow temple from oot could've been honorable mentions
timesplitters 3 the 1994 house is one of the scariest places ever in video gaming at least back then :D
The basement of the hotel in The Last of Us should be on here. Anytime you are dealing with stalkers is particularly scary but in the basement if your playing on normal difficulty you got a bloater running around too
I found the setting of F.E.A.R. to be scary AF. It should've been an honorable mention.
That hallway/room in the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time where the Wallmasters would grab you scared the fuck out of me when I was younger
What about Ruvik's mind in The Evil Within? Or Blackwood Mountain from Until Dawn?
Love Rapture and Yharnam!
What about the shalebridge cradle from thief?
These taffers haven't played the first three Thief games.
I know it is not a horror game but Vault 34 in New Vegas always has me on edge
Missing a lot of classics on here, Baker house, the ship in dead space, the basement in the last of us.
Left 4 dead the hospital used to scare me so much as a kid
Great location but more action than horror. Goes for the entire series, I guess.
no Beacon Hospital/STEM from The Evil Within????
oh well. Still a solid list
#3 was by far my #1 ... ghost/gore/Hell horror settings don't bug me at all.
What about Thief Dark Project, Thief Metal Age and the Haunted Asylum in Thief III? they had the scariest places in every level.
Outlast 2 school and Forest and basically everywhere in that game better be on here
yeah
Other honorable mention to the Shalebridge Cradle from Thief and the Dead Trenches from Dragon Age: Origins.
painkiller - asylum level (has a great atmosphere too) .
Silent Hill being #1 ultimately makes sense, and in a way I think P.T. hearkens back to Silent Hill
How about the ishimura from dead space???
Resident evil revelation 1 and 2 should be here which is the ship and island because they give me the chills and jumpscares
Suggesting for idea top worst hack and slash games. Number one being Afro Samurai 2
SOMA (Pathos II), Metro 2033 (metro), Dead Space (Ishimura), Azreal's Tear (Aethernis)...
The Crater edge and deadzone (Subnautica)
Is there a market for fun happy dream-like settings for games?
What about the sprawl ! From dead space 2 or the Ishimura from deadspace 1 !
Man mount massive should be no.1 not an honorable mention
Bejdza I agree
IKR that such bullshit that it isnt
Wut about Bart's Department store in 'Condemned', The crusades or Roman levels of 'Jericho', any of the dark, creepy underground locales in Fallout 3
Ocean house hotel from Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
What about Dead Space ??? Not even in honourable mentions..
No Hallowbrook Hotel from vampire the masquerade: bloodlines? Atmospheric and creepy as hell, and no F.E.A.R. Locations well F.E.A.R. was scary as it but not from the locations it selves.
Outlast and outlast 2 are probably the most scariest and at least for me.
I am surprised that the stem from The Evil Within and the Ishimura from Dead Space didn't even make the honorable mentions
I thought Ravenholm from Half-Life 2 would've been here, as #1. But after seeing #1 I gotta say Ravenholm can be #2 but still needs to be on the list lol
Alien isolation looks lit. Imma try it
Where's Minecraft caves?
What about the veteran center in farcry 5 and the whole whitetail mountins
What about the Baker Ranch from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, or the Matheson Farmstead from Slender?
The USG Ishimura looked and felt like you were in hell, I mean come on watch mojo how could you leave out one of the best and memorable survival horror games of all time?
Not even an honorable mention for the Cerberus Research Base on the Planet Aite from ME2's Overlord DLC ? I found roughly the second half of that DLC to be highly unsettling and i'm usually not one to be frightened by games or movies at all. Especially noteworthy since ME isn't exactly a horror game. Or what abtout the Collector Base ?
