I don't know if you've ever played Earthbound (Otherwise known as Mother 2) but if you've enjoyed Mother 3 I super suggest it and for anyone else interested in the Mother series. This game has been in the back of my mind to play, but due to it being a JP exclusive for almost 20 years its put me away from playing it. Knowing there's fan translations and they're this wonderful, while experiencing this joy of a game, makes me feel at ease into going into playing it at some point in the future.
I loved this!!!! The storyline really interesting, and some of the twists got me…. As someone who had never seen/heard of the game, I would totally watch more of these types of play throughs!
If you like it, you should also check out the series, the Mother series that is! The previous two games have a similar charm to this game, though they're a bit primitive by todays standards but still an incredible trilogy of games! :)
there are two games that released before this one in the trilogy that are called earthbound beginnings and earthbound. i heard earthbound beginnings isn't great but earthbound inspired a lot of modern indie rpgs

I know this wasn’t on purpose (and I haven’t finished the video yet) but I love that he pronounces it Magi Sies instead of the slur that the word actually contains 😂
ive met a lot of romani who proudly use that word. It's more of a contextual grey area than a slur
@@piranf it’s still generally considered a slur even if some people use it proudly. Romani people using it for themselves would be reclaiming it, like when a gay person call themself the f-slur or if a black person calls themself the n-word.
Yeah that's one of the changes I'd like to see if the game ever does get a western release. Call them the Magis or the Mages or something like that, since the G word is a slur and all that, and wasn't for Itoi to reclaim. I dont think Itoi was ever intentionally malicious but everyone makes misjudgments.

Chugga’s playthrough was one of the first things I watched on youtube as a kid, such an iconic lets play that introduced me to this wonderful game and series overall

This is one of my favorite games. I started the whole Earthbound series with this game, the last in the trilogy. I wish I could recommend it to friends, but they prefer not to use roms. If you have the chance to play this game, do it. The whole thing is filled with this energy that games nowadays rarely have. Every moment was beautifully crafted, and I hope one day it will be considered by all as the greatest game ever made.
I think this is my favorite video of yours. It's just really nice to go on this journey with you as someone who also was unfamiliar with this story.

Played this game every year since 7th grade i recently graduated good memories i remember sitting in class playing this game on my school laptop while i was supposed to be doing my work hope they make a full on remake this game took up countless hours of my life glad too see people still play it
Absolutely love this game to death. After playing though Earthbound I wasnt expecting a darker tone so I plugged in my families/friends names for everyone and boy was that heartbreaking. This game really makes you feel for the whole Nowhere islands and the tragedy that befalls upon it. Especially what happens with Claus (being a twin makes it 10x worse). I still remember experiencing it for the first time. It was during a car ride home and I yelled no so loud that it shocked my mom. This game with forever have a place in my heart and one of the few stories that I always hope have a better future after the ending. Thank you for letting me experience this wonderful game again!

(I would edit my other comment but I lost it and I’m too lazy to find it) I LOVE seeing people’s live reactions to this masterpiece of a game, thank the translation team who made the ROMs, truly the people ever!!! I love this game.. it’s so interesting, and unused content and stuff in the files is also interesting. (also the OST SLAMS I cri everytime) I am normal about this game. Im pretty sure the mushroom acid trip part represents Lucas’s mentality at the time, and is actually kind of a clever way to do so, rather than just playing yet another scrolling text cutscene.

If you havent already, seeing as you loved this game so much, I'd recommend playing Omori. It tackles similarly dark themes while having that traditional turn based rpg gameplay. It's truly an amazing experience.

Fun fact: if at the point where the game ends, if you navigated using the buttons, you would notice that Lucas is still moving and is able to talk to other characters you met through the story line, triggering the end cast scene, confirming the fact that they did survive the pulling of the last needle.
