Picked one up for my FT3DR. I'm enjoying it so far. Picking up my popular local repeater 16.9 miles away inside my house. Having a ton of fun with this HT and antenna. Thanks!
Diamonds are a ham's best friend...
Great video! First thing I do when I buy any HT is get a new Diamond Antenna! This is perfect for camping! Keep up the great work!
Wow 54000subs good video
That's certainly an improvement. I might have to check it out. Thanks for sharing Eric! 73
I was after a nice simplex DX antenna for my FT-70D. Order placed :) thanks Eric for the tip ;)
I have one and I love it!. It works even with the second part of the whip attached
Looks like a nice antenna for use on the bicycle mobile setup.
Mounted to the rear of the luggage frame, the flexibility lends itself well to the rigours of bumpy tracks.
Might be a good replacement for the RH-771 I normally use.
Thanks for showing!
THANKS for filming
I’ve been using and like the smiley triband. I like how compact it is for hotspot use on 440 and it telescopes to 1/4 on 2m. Low SWR on all three bands.
Nice video KJ4YZI! Keep up the good videos! Great work.
Finally got mine from HRO today! Play time!!! :-)
Hi KJ4YZI, thanks for making the video with your findings. Diamond definitely makes some of the best antennas out there. I have been experimenting with 2 meter HT antennas for the past 15 years so, wanted to offer my 2 cents. To begin with, when using an HT, you get hit twice trying to communicate over distances: You have low transmitter power and poor antenna efficiency. Most of the available antennas require a ground plane but, obviously don't have one for practicality reasons. Therefore, the only antenna to consider for maximum transmit gain is a half wave type, which does not need a ground plane. All of the others (non-half wave) actually have a negative gain. The best commercially available 0.7/2 meter antenna I have ever tested is the Pryme AL-800, it leaves every other antenna in the dust. The downside however is, it's a telescoping antenna, and due to that type of construction, makes it fragile. -AC8AQ.
This is the best antenna for my FT5D. Good stuff from Diamond!
The nice thing is, if i know i will be using 70CM only, i can take the top part off, as the top part is only responsible for 2M.
Still building up the courage to go on the air and talk for the first time on my radio haha
Thanks for the video
Diamond makes great antennas! To properly test you need a field strength meter. There are other videos here on YT that have done just that - and they clearly show that real Diamond antenn a's work great!!
I’ve been using the SRH940 on all my HT’s
Great video. I do use a Diamond RH205 5/8 wave antenna or a MFJ 1714 1/2 wave antenna on an ICOM IC V86. For all my other handhelds I use a COMET duel band antenna.
Your review was VERY professional. Do one showing how to address audio problems with the FT3DR HT too. Thanks!
I have one of these antennas. Best HT antenna hands down.
thanks for sharing your opinion. I am willing to buy one.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Just bought one of these on your recommendation for the Yaesu FT3D I just ordered:)
Me2
I put it in my analyzer and it was 1.2 across the entire 2m band! My srh77ca and smiley telescoping were both about 3:1
Day 2 Eric's radio table is all tidy 😄
I have one of these. I love it.
I will try this antenna. It never fails. I buy a new Comet or Diamond antenna and set my HT on the passenger seat. I have to come to an emergency stop, the HT slides off the seat onto the floor bending the antenna just above base and the first narrow part of the antenna. The antenna still works but as well as before the e-stop. I am using a HT in the car more than usual because I bought a Kia Soul. My 2001 Saturn SC2 frame is about crumble apart (love living in the northern climate where the proliferation of salt is spread on the roadways to permit drivers to drive faster) so it was time for a replacement. So far my antenna options for the Kia are magnetic mount or drill hole in roof for NMO connectors. I bought a no-name "you can tie it in a knot" dual band antenna for $40 hoping for durability. I lost the tip of it when it got caught in the house door as I was leaving one day. The glow dark tip broke off. I need a proper radio case like the one I wore on the job 5+ days per week. 73 Eric
@Terry Morris Drive safely out there. Eyes on the road, not the radio! Do you REALLY want to drill a hole in your new car for an antenna so you can talk on the radio? Magnet mounts always worked great for me. Good luck.... Jeff
@@3butalcomp3 Yes, I know that. No, I don't want to drill a hole in my new car for an antenna. I did that once in a 1999 Saturn SC2. Two holes for a dual band VHF/UHF antenna and a 6 meter antenna. After 272,854 miles and 14 years ownership the Saturn and I parted. The dual band antenna could not be removed. It would not unscrew from the NMO connector.
Mag-mounts: I tried those already and they blew off the roof. I have several that I have used for new antennas until I decide how and where I might mount a new antenna. For times when I have a rental and want to converse while on the road. Eyes on the road is a good policy when driving which is why I am disliking more and more the menu driven radios. Some simple functions like tighten squelch or PL tone require opening the menu making it difficult procedure while driving. So I must find a place to pull off the road to make adjustments. The lip mounts I used on the 2001 Saturn SC2 won't work for this 2018 Kia Soul. I ordered another lip mount to try. If it, too, doesn't work then I will drill the holes in the sheet metal.
I got the same antenna for my yaesu ft2. You will need to keep a eye out on the top section as it does work loose when walking just make sure you Titan it up properly or use a little bit of tape on it . 73-M6HXI Ronald
It is a bit tall for daily use but I am sure It makes a difference. Best way to test an HT antenna is test it under similar conditions that it is made to work. The metal chassis of an HT acts as a counterpoise for the antenna and you need this to test it properly. This means attaching the antenna directly on an analyzer just won't give you the actual situation. What I did is, I got a coffee tin similar to the size of an HT, drilled a hole on top of it and fixed a SMA connector. Then I attached 5-6 meters of good quality RG58 cable. I connect the antenna to be tested onto the SMA and connect this test rig to an analyzer, The cable allows me to keep a reasonable distance to the rig making the test conditions as close to ideal as possible.
Can you do a comparison of this antenna with a Super Elastic Signalstick Antenna? Kn6mat
Adding a counterpoise might improve it even more.....
Ok, you caught me! (Best antenna guy)
How about ordering 3-4 of the Diamond clones and doing a comparison test? That would be an excellent video that I'd like to see.
How does this compare to the Diamond SRH940 I have that on my TH-D74e
Even improve signal for receiving weather bands too? I been thinking about getting an antenna especially since I am in a house with the crappy radiant barriers drastically lowering the signal
Another Fine video. Thoughts on how this performs vs the Abbree 42 inch?
All of my Yaesu HTs have a Diamond SRH77CA antenna. Required working simplex at public service events. Hey to all the members of W0GQ public service.
Also you should test the Abbree antenna's, I use them and they are pretty good. I'm also using a Signal Stick and I'm happy with it.
I bought myself a Zodiac antenna specified for 68-69MHz and tested it against my stock antenna.
We got connection 10Km through forest between my car and the the hand held.
Both antennas had the same reach and about same signal level.
So either I've got a good Wouxon antenna or a bad Zodiac. 😉
BTW 69.1875 is legal in sweden.
25/5W depending on frequency without a licence.
What makes this antenna better than the SRH77CA? I have the RH77CA with BNC Adapter on my Yaesu VX-6 and have never had an issue reaching 'out there'. The RH77CA is a +6dB rated Antenna where as the SRH770s is only rated at 2.15dBi (144MHz), 4.5dBi (440MHz) . Do you really gain that much range on the extended length? The RH77CA is 15" long and the SRH770S is 27.5" long. Even though the gain isn't as good as the RH77CA is the range better due to the extra 12"?
Db is not the same as dbi
Great antenna sir. Me I ordered a Nagoya 771 still waiting to arrived.
I have the Nagoya 771 and it is a great antenna also.
I use Sennheiser CX350BT it’s connects to 2 Bluetooth devices at the same time I am using the IPhone 12 Mini & Yaesu ft3d ). I can listen to music on my iPhone and monitor for phone calls and the Yaesu ft3d will audio interrupt when RX.
Turn Siri off on iphone then the ( Siri button ) on CX350BT to transmit on Yaesu then ( Play / Pause button ) on CX350BT stop transmission on Yaesu.
Sounds pretty good too !
Nice armpit tickler! Yes Diamond makes some good antennas!
I run my ICOM IC-v86 when hiking. I love that radio, long battery life, and IP-54 rugged. I'm always looking for a better antenna for it. Is the SRH770S SMA only or do they make a BNC version? The IC-V86 is BNC. K7ODB, 73
Anyone have any experience with the SRH999, is it overkill? I was looking to get that for my Yaesu 3DR radio when I get it.
Can it be used without the top piece? Just in case you need the better antenna, but without the length (or in case the top piece gets lost or broken).
If I had a wish, it was for a decent-enough folding antenna, in the style of ABBREE (but maybe not that ridiculous and huge). I tried and measured (somewhat) few telescopic antennas and 2 Abbrees and they are dangerous to TX (SWR >3 or more, but more like infinity depending on conditions) in their folded state, great only when unfolded or extended. Is there something like that out there?
great video. i ordered the antenna. 73
Nice video bro, however the only practical use I can see for having such a long antenna is simplex, live in the middle of nowhere, or BC band use.
That's perfect for my rc car
I would love to see that same test with a super elastic signal stick
tried to get this antenna, none in stock anywhere. been three weeks, still has not been shipped.
Does this antenna connect to this radio out of the box or do you need a connector?
You can have all the transceiver in the world but you’re only as good as your antenna. Good review of a good antenna, 73’s ww8wv
where test is the antenna for 70 cm ?
Weird I just had a SRC77CA just arrived from Amazon
GigaParts.com has it, use promo code HRC770 for a discount. :) 73
Thanks. I will try again after the holiday. Its not on the web site as of now.
I talked w/GigiParts too and it's not in stock yet. I got it on my list. I want this antenna.
Do you know what the Price on this antenna is going to be?
@@kd2kvz Gigaparts has it listed for $34.95 but it's a "Wish List" item as of right now. I'm sure DXEngineering will have it for a higher price soon. :)
Gigaparts.com use promo code HRC770 for a little discount
Can’t find it anywhere yet. When is it available.
Hello, new subscriber here! I have a quick question. I just purchased an Uniden SDS100 with a remtronix 800MHz, but my range is really weak as I live between 2 hills. I can’t add an antenna outside as I live in apartments, so my question is, will this give me a better range? I like to listen in on DMR. The length of the antenna makes me think I will gain something from it, but I might be wrong. My RSSI stays around 100 dBn when trying to pick up the systems. Most are using the SRH77CA, so not sure if I should go with that or this new baby lol Hope to hear from you or anyone here. Much love.
would this connect to a Yaesu FT65 without the use of any adaptors? 73
Have you analyzed the bogus antenna and the real antenna?
Does this antenna have an SMA connection built in?
Will this antenna fit the Uniden 436hp?
Did the "Diamond guy" give you a estimated date when three would be available in the U.S.?
I think any day. GigaPArts said they would have it by this weekend
Thanks for all you do with this channel. I just bought this antenna because of this video. I'm excited to get into packet radio now! 73. KK6EBD
What’s the difference between this and the SRJ770SA?
I wonder why this isnt listed on the Diamond website
Can use it on my HEATHKIT 1960's CB BASS STATION?
Oh course. It works even better with a 1910s-era spark transmitter on 500KHz. There's nothing it cannot do.
Not knowing at the moment, I'm assuming this is SMA (male). I just looked up the measurement of this antenna. 70cm = 27.5591inches. That would be great with my Kenwood TH-K20 (2M). I'm going to order a Diamond SRH77CA (15" long) in the interim today until the SRH770S comes in. I have a couple of repeaters here in Lancaster County, PA that are a little soft for me here and this antenna should take care of it. Outstanding review. Thanks for the video. de KA3UXU
SRH770S: 144/430MHz (2m/70cm)
Length:70cm / Weight:45g
Gain: 2.15dBi (144MHz), 4.5dBi (430MHz)
Impedance:50ohms / Max.power rating:10W FM
Connector:SMA-P / Type:3/8wave (144MHz), 3/4wave (430MHz)
I too have the Kenwood TH-K20A and a Diamond SRH77CA and I didn't experience any improvement over the stock antenna. YMMV, but I ended up putting the stock antenna back on and the SRH77CA in the drawer. Good luck and 73.
Joseph Tyson I’m not overly impressed with the SRH77CA now that I’ve used it but it’s still better than the stock antenna. I did order the SRH770S from GigaParts and I’m still waiting on it. I’m sure it will be better.
Can you please help me with a ant. For a BAOFENG UV-XR . THANKS , MUCH .
I have the 4 band Yaesu HT - does this handle 6 meters?
It doesnt allow transmit on 6 meters, but it is labeled as a wide-band receiving antenna.
Pretty impressive. But way too long for my TH F6A when I hang the HT on my belt.
But I am impressed with the performance.
Barry, KU3X
Try the Nagoya NA-24J. I got one for my TH-F6A. It's a quarter-wave on two meters, so it beats a rubber duck. It's a 5/8 wave on 440, so you'll get some gain there. Best of all, it is very light, flexible and only 16" inches long. Last time I checked, Amazon only sells it with a SMA female for Balfongs. Two Way Radio was recommended to me by a Nagoya rep and also sells it in SMA-Male, which will fit your TH-6A or BNC, if you use it with an adapter. www.buytwowayradios.com/nagoya-na-24j.html
Looks like they sell them in the UK but not the US
How does this compare to the srh-999 the 770 was not in stock so I ordered the quad for my ft3d. Thanks
not buy 770s ,i have 770s and srj77ca,srh771 ,770s more expensive ,but 770s not better than 771.
@@user-hn2by9fy7u thank you, so I buy 771 ?
Interesting review, but the antenna isn’t available through any U.S. retailer that I can find.
GigaPArts said it should be available this weekend
HamRadioConcepts -Thank you
is that not for 432MHZ which is 70cms
where can i buy one
DO a comparison with Chinese knock off and the Diamond. Both probably come from the same manufacture.
Nice flexibility for the HT antenna. And perfect armpit or chin poking height when waist mounted?!?! Mike N6IMY
😂
Try the HR 800 antenna
Great video. Subbed! 73.
Where can you buy it. I can’t find it online anywhere
Check GIgaParts this weekend they should have it by then..
More better to see if doing test with SWR meter or antenna Analyzer
+ 1 subscriber from France. 73's
You made that look super flexible... That antenna IS self supporting, right?
@Nick Seamus No, it's not self supporting. You'll have to hang it from the ceiling or a nearby tree using string. Use the correct length of string for optimal SWR.
Get fucked Jeff. Thanks.
You did not test it on uhg
I am not finding it for sale on ebay or Amazon.
I don't even see it listed in Diamonds catalog or on their website.
It should be on GigaPArts this weekend
Thanks!
Good!👍👍😎🇺🇸
I'd rather have a signal stick (super flexible.)
This antenna will not mount to your Anytone D878
The best or nothing!🤪
Interesting comparison Eric. Personally I find Diamond to be hit and miss , considering they ask premium prices for their products.. Example . The V2000 Tri - Band rocks awesome 2m and 70cm Homebase antenna. On the other hand The
BB7V .. The most expense dummy load ever !! Absolute trash.. Tried everything to get this antenna to perform .. Ground radials . 9 : 1 unun. you name it . Deaf as a rubber post. 400 bucks down the Shute.. Maybe they should stick to HT antennas. Just my take.. Best regards , 73s HS0ZOU.
I don't know what eBay playing at lately but a search for antenna is a nightmare, the Nagoya antenna more expensive than a proper genuine diamond sth antenna from Nevada radio UK. Thats nit a plufpg for them just saying.
That was not a Baofeng radio! Most Baofengs put out way less than the rated power. Try it with the radio you're talking about. Very interesting video though. Best wishes my friend.
Always always test with an antenna tester to make sure you have a resonant original antenna and not a fake. either spend the 170 dollars for one, one borrow one from a friend. You wouldn't believe how many bad antennas you mistakenly pass off as OK, if you don't test!
Don't use a repeater, try it simplex for distance
in the works for future video
Just shows you can have the best radio in the world but not a very good antenna and look at the result
My antenna is pants
Uhf
Me.
All that foreign writing on that package lol.
Diamond is a Japanese company, so it's not surprising that it's in English/Japanese. Not sure why that's even an issue but hey, you do you.
@@AlterMannCam I'm aware it's a Japanese company. I pointed it out because it stuck out to me. Why does it matter? It matters to me. I want to see more products in the CB and HAM amateur radio field produced state side. I could go more in depth, but this comment field isnt the place for that. I hope I answered your why does it matter question. 73
Dude...really love your videos.. but you take FOREVER to get to the topic.
CovidImages need to be invested more than half19
Get a real radio and real antenna and see what you are missing with a ricebox handy scratchy and a crap antenna...
I dont understand what that meant...
