  • The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 with its seven targets and four priorities for action, was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction on March 18, 2015. It was endorsed by the UN General Assembly on June 3, 2015. The Sendai Framework is a 15-year, voluntary, non-binding agreement that recognizes that the State has the primary role in reducing disaster risk but that responsibilities are to be shared with other stakeholders, including local government and the private sector. It aims for the following outcome: The substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries.

    About UNDRR:
    The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has a big ambition: to help decision-makers across the globe better understand and act on risk. At UNDRR, we believe there is no such thing as a natural disaster. A natural hazard, such as a hurricane, earthquake, or flood, only becomes a disaster when it impacts a community that is not adequately protected and whose population is vulnerable as a result of poverty, exclusion, or social disadvantage. We envision a world where disasters no longer threaten the well-being of people and the future of the planet. Sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda cannot be achieved without working towards the goal of building resilience.

    Hello, where is the "$1 invested saves $7" statistic cited from?

    • @emilymarjama7095
      @emilymarjama7095 Před 3 lety +3

      It's from the disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery cycle. It means that $1 invested into mitigation will ultimately save $7 in recovery. So the more money we invest into reducing damages, the less money we'll need to put forth overall. Another way to look at it is... Well, it takes more money to rebuild a house than it does to re-roof one.

      @@mistercallcenter3252 No, it's not. English is English language, spoken by many but far from universality and saying that is a bit colonialistic. Especially when we speak about DRR, which is directed into regions where English is very often not spoken by local communities.
