But yeah…give trillions of pounds of our money to the Governments of countries in West Africa where there is obviously zero corruption, I’m sure the local people will really feel the benefit 🤦‍♂️

You paid the families of former slave owners up until 2015 without even realising it. The British government provided payments as compensation for the families of slave owners for their "loss of labour" only ended in 2015.

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown is today asking why immigrants are so nasty towards new immigrants?
It's probably for the same reason that her forbears in Uganda treated indigenous Africans so appallingly.
That's one of the reasons that Idi Amin kicked the Ugandan Asians out of Uganda.
Africans employed as domestic staff preferred to be employed by the British because they were treated much better.
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown has acknowledged this in the past.
We should not pay any compensation for what happened in the past. What about the enslavement of people by Arabs, and the forced abduction of the people of Ireland, Devon and Cornwall by Barbary pirates?
African chiefs were complicit in handing people over to slavers.
What about the damage done to the UK by the criminal activities of Jamaicans?
Are we going to be compensated?
The British were slaves of the Romans.

It's also rather vindictive considering the current British Government and taxpayers can't be held accountable for the immorality perpetrated by their ancestors centuries ago. Many of those affected by World War II were still very much alive after it had ended. Those affected by slavery as well as those who owned them are now long since dead. People want money for nothing. We all had ancestors who experienced slavery. Ottoman, Roman Chinese, Aztec you name it they slaved it. People should put money into helping people in slavery TODAY slavery is rife in areas dotted around the world today 2024. I don’t need money for an ancestor being a slave hundreds of years ago, but there are people now, this day, needing help to get out of slavery and bring awareness to the world that it is still happening. This country abolished slavery in 1805, it used our own navy to patrol the coasts of Africa turning back slave ships filled with the help of African tribes selling off opposing tribes we have nothing to be ashamed off we led the world to fight slavery……it’s still lingering behind!

the guy who called is right in saying that war and slavery are different, but the next lady said british empire which was the biggest empire in the world profited more than other countries in slavery. so does that mean they r more in debt to other countries.
but also how far back do we go? england was once invaded by vikings and romans and so on etc. do they owe england money. where do we draw the line of who owes what as slavery has existed since the start of time.
