Ben & Tiff’s bikepacking trip to Spiti Valley in Northern India in June 2019. See the full blog post at www.benandtiffsadventures.wordpress.com. Instagram: wheelingfree
Wow what an adventure. I have to hand it to you and a double shout out to Tiff, what a trooper. That slippery slope above the freezing and swift river was crazy. Thankfully you were safe and your folks watched it after the danger was over.
wow. just wow. i've been through the circuit in 2018 and now seeing it again from you is so delightful and nostalgic. cheers to all the adventures to you guys! wish you joy and health.
You won't believe this but i just arrived yesterday from that road to Manali ( kazza to Manali) on my Toyota Etios and believe me no one should do that ever in that kind of Car even though it was experience of the life time but On the other hand l had put my car in great danger. Thanks for the video as i am recalling everything .
you guys did the real, i mean REAL, adventure.... all those people who come in cars dont even know what you experienced in spiti.... Kudos to all of you..... hopefully, one day i will be brave enough to tackle an adventure like this.
truely truely incredible stuff guys... hats off .. can you please share what and how you packed all the stuff clothing etc.. if you can share a video for the same that will also be helpful for people like us who wants to go here on cycles and dont really know what to pack and how to pack.. once again thanks for sharing this wonderful video with us..
Actually that was only Highway to lahul town, that's why so rush.but now atal tunnel has opened,so one goes through rohtang.btw- u has gone there at peak time in summer, when all tourist goes
Loved watching this!! Amazing how you guys persevered despite many adversities, most folks would have thrown in tne towel. One question... if you had to do it again, would you retain the extra-broad cycle tyres or opt for normal mountain terrain bike tyres. Am guessing they would be useful on the gravel paths but really slow on the straights and seeing how often the cycles had be lifted and pulled, the extra weight must be tough
Thanks for the kind words! In hindsight I would still ride plus tires, but not fat bike tires. Was probably a bit overkill. But part of the reason for that was increased traction and comfort for Tiff who was still getting accustomed to mountain biking :)
Ben and Tiff.......I keep coming back to this video every now and then to get a vicarious adrenaline rush. Those snow-lined roadside rockwalls at 7.03 to 7.20, where exactly is that? And which month of the year were you there?
I want to visit hills rivers and other natural things who made by nature but i have one week point my family I'm get success in life after start my journey Love from India
Great video. It seems that both of you were riding Surly ECR and using plus tires. Would you recommend plus types on this route as compared to MTB tyres?
Hey thanks Arindom! Yeah we are actually riding fat bikes - Tiff’s is a Surly Mukluk and mine is a Surly Pugsley. Both are running Surly Larry 26x3.8 tyres, which made for a super comfortable ride and maximum traction, but I don’t think are necessary by any means. We met folks riding through on gravel grinders, but I would definitely say the bigger the better, in my opinion. Plus tires would be perfect.
Ben!! I watched your other videos. Very well made, great narration and so postive. Also thank you for the advise. I am a bit more sure about going for a plus bike now.
We started the second week of June, but there was a record amount of snowfall this year. Normally the pass is open by late May, this year it didn’t open until late June.
Thanks folks, just want to confirm. I've read Laura Stone's guide.I was planning this route together with Zankar valley a few years ago but the airfare is almost the same as going to Andes so still undecided. Very nice edit by the way, simple but never boring.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful places in world..Hope u guys agree..u guys seriously have guts i would say.. no one would even dare to do it
Hey Bryan, yes we have a Komoot profile with some of our routes, and we’ll be adding all of them when we’re back in the USA next week. Our username is Wheelingfree (www.komoot.com/user/881946981146?ref=imk)
Is this trip in India as beautiful as the annapurna circuit in nepal??..Guys do suggest , i am also planning for a trip to nepal.. Your suggestion would be of great help
amrit bisoi Thanks! Yes, we did the Annapurna circuit as well (check out Vlog 7). It would be hard to choose between the two... Annapurna went quite a bit higher and was a little more physically intense, but this route had so much varied terrain and culture. Do both if possible!
Excellent! Someday I will too, few of my fellow cyclist went there.
Wow what an adventure. I have to hand it to you and a double shout out to Tiff, what a trooper. That slippery slope above the freezing and swift river was crazy. Thankfully you were safe and your folks watched it after the danger was over.
Thanks haha yeah it was pretty sketchy in the moment but all good in the end!
What an amazing experience, and the best way to feel the adventures - cycling all the way through!

Fantastic! What time of year were your trying Chhatru-Batal? Looks like Kunzum la itself was snow-free? (went thru in Sep 2014, was great).
David Koelle Awesome! Yeah this year there was still lots of snow - we were there in early July. Kunzum La was cleared though 👍
