    Ronnie Barker was a superb writer - I'm sure W S Gilbert would have loved this.

      'Alternative' comedians managed to find an alternative to comedy. It was far easier to sneer at others rather than use self-deprecation to laugh at themselves.

    Hello, how do you do. We are bringing you songs by Sullivan & Gilbert. Hope they are going to fill the bill, but let us not waste time. Let us start the rhythm, We won't... sing anything that is glum. For this is the season that gives us a reason for drinking and filling our tum. I must say its alright for some, I eat what I like and don't put on a pound. I like what I eat that is why I'm so round. Just keep off the starches I've got fallen arches from carrying this lot around

      2. ‘The flowers that bloom in the Spring’ (Mikado)
      3. ‘Take a pair of sparkling eyes’ (Gondoliers)
      4. ‘Three little maids’ (Mikado)
      5. ‘On a tree by a willow’ (tit willow) (Mikado)
      6. ‘A policeman’s lot is not a happy one’ (Pirates of Penzance?)

      I think. Dad loved G and S. Played it a lot.

    • @Aeonterbor

      Maree Yarwood Well I myself did not remove anything from this recording, Another song on this record "The Boys In Ballet" was actually extended compared to how it appeared in another two Ronnie's Album and the "Short & Fat Minstrel Show" actually features alternate lyrics to the version of it seen in their show so It may be a Case of the BBC editing these tracks.

    • @Aeonterbor
      @Aeonterbor  Před 8 lety +3

      +meinages I had a watch of that myself, I reckon that the Ronnie's just thought of different jokes for the record as that sequence in the show was from 1971 and this album was from 1976 So I' Imagining that they wanted to add new jokes that they had come up with.
