    If you are in to precision rifle shooting, you most likely have a respect for high quality equipment and gear. Recently, when discussing the Turban CNC Präzipress with the inventor Thomas Turban, I was made aware of a lineup of ultra-precision dies that like the Präzipress are made in Germany. The dies I'm talking about are made by a company called Triebel Guntools, and in this video, I'll show them to you first-hand!

    Thank you for showing some love to the 6.5 prc. Its quickly becoming one of my favourite calibers. That being said, I get that partnerships are an essential source of revenue for firearm related CZcams channels. But this video felt like a 20 minute advertisement for a product that misses 99.9% of your audience. Maybe we could have a comparison video where you compare ammo loaded with these to ammo loaded with other common dies like Forster or Lee? Or some other substantive claim about improved performance? Just some thoughts from a long time subscriber.

    There’s a couple of important facets to the range of dies offered by Triebel - only one of which was briefly mentioned by Gavin (i.e. the 1-1/4” dies).
    Unlike most manufacturers they offer dies for many cartridges in 1-1/4” x 12 thread size as well as the normal 7/8” x14 treaded dies. Especially where large diameter cases are concerned the larger die bodies allow far more consistent sizing of the larger cases compared to the 7/8” dies (dies which end up with quite thin walls - leading to problems). Surprisingly the cost of the Triebel 1-1/4” dies is very similar to that of their 7/8” dies.
    Triebel also supply dies (as standard & at no extra cost) for many little known cartridges which require either special order dies from other makers or are just not available elsewhere.
    I use some Triebel dies plus many other dies from just about all the other makers. Triebel are certainly the best finished (and don’t require their expander buttons to be smoothed/polished - unlike most other makers products do). However because of cost I’d hesitate to recommend Triebel 7/8” dies for the basic run of cartridges (e.g. .223, .308 Win etc) but as noted above, their dies are ready available & are more cost effective (or the only choice) when it comes to many less popular cartridges. Likewise their 1-1/4” dies are good value for money compared to the few similar dies made by other manufacturers.

    Gavin,
    1) Thank you for your video. Great job. I would like to see video from testing of loads at range soon.
    2) Music at beginning is just terrible, next time, reduce volume a little, please...
    3) As you know, scale, you are using for powder measuring are very sensitive. They are close to analytical scale category in precision and shall be treated properly. Keeping them at the same table, during all strokes and vibration from other reloading steps will kill them soon. I was crying for them, all the time, watching this post.
    4) Most comments are claiming here, about price of dies. Yes, they are expensive. Triebel is leading company in precision tools for gunsmithing in Europe, and price level of their product equal to High End product category. Like Porsche in automotive. Would You like to have Porsche? You shall pay for it. Yes, at the end of the day, It is still only a car. Four tires, engine etc.
    But, it’s funny for me, to see, how US guys are crying about EU product price in US, anyway. Could you imagine, how much we - reloaders in Europe - are paying for US reloading products here? If I will purchase Dillon SUPER 1050 today, I would pay here in Czech Republic equivalent of $ 3,400.00 in local currency. Shall I cry as well? (lol)

      Companies charge what the market will bear. If Triebel or Dillon can get the price they charge in either market good for them. Might be too rich for my blood but I guess someone can afford them or they wouldn't be able to produce and sell the product. Though in your market I'm betting there's a huge import duty adding to the cost.

They are some really nice looking dies, but at this time, that cost far exceeds my ability and experience. When I say my "experience" that means, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the dies I have of the various brands, to these claimed super duper high-end dies. I can't even tell the difference from my LYMAN's to the L.E. Wilson's dies, let alone the other brands, all for the same cartridge. Maybe someday, I will have that measure of a skillset to be able to merit the cost of that brand of tools. Maybe if the price comes down a wee bit, I may buy a set for the next caliber I play with. Triebel actually sells a „Pleb Set“ in .308win named after their home region „Allgäu“ that includes a benchrest seater and FL sizer for roughly 150€ which is an amazing value. Unfortunately, their other FL dies alone cost almost 50% more which is so absurd.
    I‘m very happy with the .308FL sizer but the BR seating die suffers from THE METRIC SYSTEM. Even with the optional „micrometer“ adjustment upgrade, you basically get 0.1mm increments on the fine adjustment scale which sucks. It is nice to see some new products, like the Franford Pile Driver (I bought one and works great), but the practical end results is the reason for my subscription. The press shootout is a great example or the rifle builds. I hope you go back to the origins and the "infomercial look and feel" becomes a brief interval.

      @@badoldboy5557 You've got all wrong brother. 1st, you don't know my budget and this has nothing to do with it, btw I just bought a CZ550 in 505 Gibbs for reference. 2nd Who said I did not want to see a product, I even gave an example of a product that I bought right after one of the videos where he clearly showed the benefits and I can vouch for them now. The issue is the recent lack of practical results. Based on this video, can you tell me if it is worth footing the bill for these dies over Hornady dies? The same with the recent priming tool. What's the practical reason to invest on this expensive tool versus the Lee bench primer that I use? Gavin used to show the benefits, and the examples I provided of great quality videos he produced is a testament of this.

    • @badoldboy5557
      @badoldboy5557 Před 3 lety +1

      @@cs_yt Thank you for your comment on what I wrote. I see it like you when you ask "is the tool worth so much money". It is very difficult to decide. It depends what you are doing and there are dies from other manufacturers where a die costs over $ 800. Such dies are then individually manufactured for your chamber. The Tribel dies are not that special and not that expensive. You can also have certain dimensions made at Tribel if you are telling them. This may be too difficult for customers from the USA. The Tribel dies are consistently benchrest quality. Matrices from well-known manufacturers in the USA can do this just as well in terms of quality. These benchrest dies then also cost more than the standard. But when you take a Tribel die in your fingers and see how it is processed, it is a great feeling and the result is just right. When I get inserts for the setting die, for example for different Berger bullets that are adapted to the different ogives, one shooter will say "I don't need it" and another shooter will find it great. Admittedly, such information was missing from the video. At the end of the day - Tribel is very high standard - the surfaces have a high finish. I have one Tribel sizing die - I got Forster benchrest - normal Dillon - Hornady and Lee dies and what I can tell you - you get what your paying for. It depends at your needs. Sometime a LEE ist ok. Even though, IMO, he should have shown more charges and the result of the charge is a little shaky, at least it is closer to what used to be. So, is there a way for interested customers in the US to easily buy Triebel dies? Seems to be targeted to compete with the Short Action Customs or the Micron dies but how do we get them.

      It's a barrel burner. And money burner as well. My 6.5 Creedmore does fantastic, if you need more distance, go 300WM or 338Lapua

      @@laszlovandor4770 not really a barrel burner. GAP is showing 2000-2500 barrel life.

    • @josephberndt6907
      @josephberndt6907 Před 3 lety +4

      6.5 PRC has nearly the same barrel life or better as the 300wm. Depending on the barrel maker and power factor you load to of course. The shoulder angle and neck length was chosen specifically with barrel life in mind. Cases with shorter necks and/or certain shoulder angles cause more throat erosion (like 243 Win). 6.5 PRC hasn't even been out long enough for the average shooter to wear out yet. Also if you are the kind of person that shoots 3k+ a year in a short action magnum, you can afford to swap a barrel out and upgrade. It should be something to look forward to and not a negative if you love it.

    • @laszlovandor4770
      @laszlovandor4770 Před 3 lety

      I was thinking that is 200+ grain in 300WM or anything in 338Lapua is better past 1000 meters.
      6.5 Creedmore must be effective out to 500 meters on moose and elk.
      Skandinavian hunters take moose at 500 meters with 6.5x55 Mauser with 140 grain round nose since 1896.
      My son and I have three of those. All 3 are made in 1900 at Oberndorf A/N .
      Four weeks ago he shot a 0.12 MOA (with 140 grains HPBT) group of 3 at 300 meters with his friend's SigSauer 6.5x55 in Linköping.
