- Today I will be Taking you to a real hidden treasure in County Carlow. It is an old graveyard in Clonmelsh near Tinryland in Co. Carlow. Clonmelsh Graveyard is a burial place of Walt Disney`s Ancestors as well as to the famous Butler family of Kilkenny Castle.
Located only 8 km from Carlow Town and not far from Milford. It is one of Carlow’s most interesting and unique sites of historical importance.
This place have a huge tourism potential but isn`t well developed and known. In 2019 the graveyard was tidy up by volunters but it is still overgrown and acces isn`t good. The descriptions on the old graves are impossible to see, only the description on the graves of Disney family are visible.
There are tree Disney Headstones in Clonmelsh Graveyard:
Here Leith the Body Of Abigal Pain Alias Disney Who Departed This Life The 29 of Nov 1746 Aged 28 Years Erected by her husband Joseph Pain
Here Lieth The Body of George Disney of The City of Dublin Baker Who Departed This Life The Ninth Day Of May 1736 Aged 53
This tombstone is Erected Mary Disney in memory of the Husband Robert Disney who this day 2nd day of August Aged 62 years
In 1801, Arundel Elias Disney, great-grandfather of Walt Disney was born in Gowran Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. Walt Disney’s ancestors left Ireland to travel to New York in 1834. Three of his ancestors are buried in Clonmelsh graveyard. That’s why every year Platform with Disney was on St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Carlow Town to remind his connection with Carlow.
In Clonmelsh Graveyard also lie the ancestors of the Butler family. Pierce Butler, one of the Founding Fathers, was born in Co Carlow. He was one of the architects of the American Constitution and was one of the signatories, in Philadelphia, 1788.

There’s that golden voice I look forward to hearing! Then, we get a great story ! Ty GV. Always appreciated.
Great Gatsby! I didn't know about Walt's Irish roots. Nice to be able to visit his relatives, and to pay tribute to them and the Butlers. Thank you!
This was great Grave. Never knew that about Walt, Irish heritage. So many Irish immigrated here, their history gets lost as years go bye! Thanks Grave!
Amazing he is part of Ireland liz 🇮🇪❤️
As far as Americans know, Walt Disney never spoke of his Irish heritage. That’s very sad. Thanks for taking us there!
What a shame that lovely white stone was so broken yet most of the older ones have survived better . It must all come down to the different types of stone in the end 💕💕
Congratulations on 8k subscribers keep up the good work!
5hanks GV it is also very cold here in Alaska we are only 19 degrees and thank you the history of where Disney came from.

Hiya , brilliant video GV. The place looks great now it's been cleared , not so sure about the big cage as it stops folk from having a proper look , probably health n safety stopping you from falling . So much history I really enjoyed . Thank you so much x
Congratulations on your 8,000 subscribers.. it takes awhile to grow a channel and lot's of work, but it's great when you do what you've always wanted to do and love to share the so many different cemeteries, headstones, stories, we all share the one common thing, life and death, we can't escape death but we can all share in our thoughts and love for cemeteries... 🤗 From Wisconsin 😊🤗❤️
Missed the beginning but will restart to watch the beginning. Interesting for the Disney family ancestors.

NOW THAT WAS A GREAT FIND , C , DIDN'T KNOW ANY OF THAT PRETTY COOL , THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO SING US A DISNEY SONG 😆😆😆 CHEERS BROTHER 🤘
Know that place well lovely place to visit near carlow
Walt was well loved.
I feel Walt wouldn't want his lifelong dream to appease all age groups, went from a fantasy to something someone never would have imagined it would have grown to this magnitude.. I'm one in many that have been there or parents that took us my Brother and I when we where young, my Step dad was a mean man and took our mother to Vegas twice a year and they traveled all over the USA ... Even though we enjoyed staying at our Grandma's house but sometimes felt neglected when it felt like everyone in school got to go, so we lied many times and said we've been there so many times that it's not fun anymore... Even though deep inside we knew the truth but didn't want to be bullied or embarrassed... 😢... Many people have gone on this channel but many have never been to and probably..
I am a descendant of the Disney name. My Mother was a Disney. This find of this cemetery is so exciting, as I hope to visit this next August. Thank you for the information.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching

Congrats on 8k GV!
Thanks Ben
I just wished in all my life I had parent's that was able to take their children to WDW I've always wanted to go and take my children and Grandchildren and show them and experience it with them all.. they charge a lot for admission to get into the parks, I was trying when my mom was still alive to do a Disney cruise, that with all my immediate family would have been for a week including air fair was well over $16,000 plus any off cruise tours off the cruise ship, now with many hands going down through the Disney's begining squeeze money out of everyone's wallet so no normal size family could ever go to or on the enjoy...
Very unique the graveyard i wonder if he went to the graveyard
