love how you used the cup winners of each year
He used leafs in one of videos so no he didn’t lol
It is because that was 2005
I think it wa the lock out?
Not this years winners. LETS GO BLUUUUES
@@nathanhomuth1127 there was no season played in 2005, lockout. lol
I had 94, 95, 98 and now 2019 I took a big break lol
Pancouver venguins yes... yes you did...
Same here. The last one I had was 95
I used to have nhl11 and 12 and now have 20
I'm just gonna say this, but you missed the era of some of the greatest hockey games ever made (e.g. NHL 2002, 2004, 09, 14). These are the NHL games that I think defined a whole generation! Not saying that 94, 95, 98 and 19 are bad, but I think the games from the 2000's and early 2010's were better.
I miss the old nhl commentator. Much more emotions !
Drôle de Talbot such a legend
Jim Hughson is great.
Agreed! And not just in the game, but IRL too. I had to watch a Canadian stream of the Leafs/Boston playoff series this season because I prefer Jim Hughson over Mike Emrich. I also can’t stand Eddie Olczyk. Ray Ferraro is cool though.
Drôle de Talbot same
Hull takes the puck!!
Since 2010, you pay 80$ to have a yearly update on rosters and thats all.......
@yeeeaeet Like GM Connected and Live The Life (but they were removed in NHL 15). The only new big game mode we've since NHL 15 is World Of CHEL
@Jeff Cockmann offline modes are good, HUT is garbage as usual
@Jeff Cockmann Oh the irony
I'd even say 09. Lol
$80
NHL 2002 was my favorite game growing up
Taco Stacks I had that on game boy. Red Wings were like a cheat code in that game.
NHL 2002 was my first ever video game and my first hockey game !
@@shanemurray1471 I know this is a year later but I had it on the gameboy as well, and it was basically NHL 96, it was actually lots of fun good times
Michael Pasta, good to know. ‘02 Wings my fav. Squad ever.
lol
the after goal celly camera angle in 07 is way better than current. wtf??!
This also shows me that since 2013, they've been recycling bad animations..
Tyler Smythe *2011
07 was pretty damn good. And the after goal celly is the best out of all nhl games
Tyler Smythe I think it’s because they abandoned the movie like animations and went with just how it would look if you were watching an actual game. If you’re watching a real game, there would be no angle that looked like that. Just my guess. But I liked how it looked
Since then, thats not all they have recycled and why?... BC it was right around then that all competition stopped. EA has had no motivation to truly innovate since then and the game has mostly stagnated. If ever there was an argument for some of the positive results of competition and against monopolies, this game is it. Sadly
@@ProfessorNoonie they use some angles like that from time to time.. rarely!? More so post-game.. the collective of team-hired, glass-pocket photographers.
I believe I played 96 back in the day on my cousin’s genesis. Always remember liking it even though I knew nothing about hockey. My cousin died of an overdose a few years back. I bought nhl20 today and used the ‘94 controls to take me back to the good old days.
Drugs are bad, mmkay?
Love the content man so cool to see how far video games have come
Ea needs some competition like in the old days. They are just trash now with a monopoly on all sport franchises. Why improve when people will buy their product because there's nothing else. Bring back 2ksports
2k sucked though...
I loved playing NHL2K more fine also had All-Star competition
2k5 was AWESOME
2k will never compare to EA sports
Yeah. Just watching this video reminded me of how much better Sega Sports NHL 2k series was. The graphics were much better, the player movements were smoother and more realistic, the game play was better, the announcers weren't as annoying. NHL2K6 was better than any of the EA releases.
2001 my childhood NHL times. Glad to see the commentary, gameplay is still the best so far.
God how I miss, “CHANCE, SCORES!!” Bring back good commentary lol
This brings back memories thanks for uploading this. I remember playing this on my xbox 360 and ps2 and Nintendo
1:29 dont you just love that shot
1:31
Announcer: "Holmstrom scores!"
Crowd: *wind noises*
Booing that distinct kicking motion probably!
Of course. He's from sweden.
Wow, thats a lot of salt
The attention to detail that each year you used the finalists in that years Stanley cup is just so cool.
He messed up NHL 95 though. Should have been Rangers.
Great way to show the evolution of the NHL series!
They updated the game engine 4 times in almost 30 years...good job EA...👍
Is bad or good ?
@@PsyVHS77 Bad
KFURRY TV
Very bad. It's lazy to not even try to innovate your games to differentiate them from the last release. At that point, you're just charging $60 USD for a roster update.
@@treymagathan847 It's not lazy, it's free money. It's the idiots buying it that are the problem.
The evolution of EA NHL games today. Have you played all these games ? Which one is your favorite ?
NHL 99 for retro and NHL 16 for current gen
NHL 19!
Used to love NHL 96 for the Genesis.
*NHL 94 on SEGA*
I play all the NHL from 98 to 2019. NHL 2002 was my favorite of all. 2019 is not so bad, but 2017 and 2018 were straight crap...
The video nobody asked for but the video everybody needed!!! Ty
I miss NHL 99 best NHL game ever and I miss Jim Huston's commentary
Not to mention the amazing soundtrack in the menus.
FuSoYa NHL 15 also had a great soundtrack.
Jeah, it's Gold
@@fusoya6544 yes!! I bought NHL 99 recently I found myself sitting on the main menu just listening to the theme song it brought so much memories back
1999-2002 the GOLDEN AGE
Where exactly do you see an evolution?
From 15 onwards all NHL games have looked the goddamn same, ever since - which is a shame given the possibilities today's powerful consoles and PC's can offer.
i like what youre doing
They just keep using the same engine instead of a new one.
xbox and ps4 have been out for that long. they came out with the cheaper ones first as well so there was no room to improve on the graphics. along with that, you dont know what he's running it on.
They seriously need to work on the actual gameplay....and all the other modes and menus and everything. Eh maybe better to just start from scratch actually
Having played all of them for years, if anything they have actually slowed the game down a fair bit.
It doesn't really showcase it here, but the gameplay has changed in a lot of ways on the more micro level.
Completely different metas and everything.
1998 was by far the most groundbreaking one-year evolution.
It wasn't. The biggest leap was from NHL 95 to NHL 96 on PC, 2D to 3D. It difference was incredible, I was there to live through it. Back in those days EA used to release demos on PC where you could play a short game and it was normally released prior to the game coming out.
Thanks for taking the time
NICE MAN your one of my favorite youtubers
I like how you used the teams that won the cup the year that the game came out 👏
And you used the teams they played against
Except he had Vancouver against the Islanders for NHL 95. Should be the Rangers, OOPS! :)
I like the 07-14 NHL commentary
Scooooreeeeee!
Finally games going up to 2019 thank you so much
I remember playing the first NHL Hockey in high school and thinking how incredibly cool it was to play with any team, and that the uniform colors were basically spot-on. The Sega Genesis days! I haven't played this game since Peter the Great was on the case.
I’m an old timer who remembers playing the first hockey game ever on an Intellivision console
Im a milennial but my dad is 74 had a original atari
The last NHL game I played was 09. I don't seem to have missed much.
Also, bring back Don Taylor.
walonsubi 15 for me
2019 is free on Xbox right now with a gold membership
NHL 98 was my Favourite. I miss the fighting and the gameplay was so much better
i had that on PC, good times
@@kayvonmotamed Ps one for me. 🤗
Прикольно посмотреть было,помню резался с утра до ночи,такие чемпионаты были!!!Спасибо!!!
I have no idea what you’re saying but I left a like because other people liked it.
Я не порядке ☹️
When are these NHL games ever going to hit mobile phones?
Tampatec probably when you stop commenting on every single video
@@philkessel8162 shut up. I feel like ea sports should be able to make an nhl mobile game. I mean they made madden, nba live, and fifa mobile. They have good enough devs to make a mobile game.
@@RizzemwiththeTism589 lol why are you telling me to shut up from a comment made a year ago?
@@philkessel8162 Even though it was a year ago, It doesn’t matter that’s just straight up rude to say what you did.
Kids today don't need another god damn reason to be on their phone...smh
Fun Fact:
NHL Hockey didn't have the rights from the NHLPA so the First game feature team names, but not players.
Subsequently, the next game in the series is NHLPA 93.. guess what's different? Not licensed by NHL but they had the NHLPA rights so players names but no official team names, so instead of NY Islanders you get "Long Island"
NHL 94 was the first game that secured rights for both the NHL and NHLPA which is why its frequently credited as the "First"
very nice, good work
Been playing NHL since 91. I miss Jim Hughson from 99 and a few years after, he was the Vancouver Canucks play by play guy, the best
Love that you used the Stanley cup final for each year
It's literally just NHL09 all over again since 2K Sports stopped making hockey games
NHL 09 was it's own game tho. Complete different from the new NHL games. 09 was good for certain features of the game.
NHL09 was a good game
Same thing with 2k nba. Same game every year
Benoit Hogue's skate was definitely in the crease on that goal.
Literally NHL 2003 looks more fun than the newer version of NHL
if people would refuse to buy the new versions for a couple of years to send the message that it's time for an overhaul the EA's sports library could be amazing. from their perspective, why change it when they're making millions on pay-to-win idiots that happily spend a grand of real money ripping packs.
I would trade 19 for a Xbox 1 version of 2003 anyday
Right?!
2003 was the best NHL EA ever made. Plus it had Jarome Iginla on the cover.
thats because it is
NHL 20 should use the voices of each teams play by play and color guy.
I agree
C W THIS
That would be almost impossible. However, I'd like to see multiple generic broadcast packages with multiple commentary teams
Sure if you want to pay 600 dollars for the fame. Do you know how time consuming and expensive that would be??
@@AroundSun its EA. It would be like 80 , than they would get money from HUT
The Sega ones were my fav. 95 and 96 especially.
That was my childhood
Same here, nhl95 on the genesis. College time
Nhl 94 changed my life
The organ music added a lot of character. Never played any other games in the franchise, but the hat tricks were cool as well.
Nhl 98 was so lit. I remember me and my brother playing Avs vs Wings all the time on ps1.
NHL 94 (sega for me) was and still is the best version *NHL 94* it has its own friggin website and cult following
Was and is my favourite on SNES too. The music in the beginning still gets me all hyped up!
Ok Ibra Chaka but NHL Hockey definitely had the best intro music to date imo
Never understood the love for 94. I thought 95 was the best pre-Playstation version.
@@darkmatter7668 no 95 sucked imo hated it
@@darkmatter7668 94 on SEGA not snes had to be on sega
Updated my NHL game for the first time since Slapshot recently with 19. Can't wait to get NHL 28!
For those of us who were old enough to actually play NHLPA 93 & NHL 94 at the time of release:
* We have a lifelong love of hockey,
* We have fond recollection of the rosters of those two seasons (not dissimilar from those of us who can't forget the NFL rosters from 1990-1991 due to Tecmo Super Bowl), and
* The Sega Genesis version was superior, as Genesis hardware was (for whatever reason) better suited for sports games.
Long live the NHL Series of games!
Part of my love of hockey died when the north stars left Minnesota. I played NHL 93 a ton as a kid. I created seasons by playing games and rolling dice to simulate the CPU games. All while writing everything down.
As for tecmo super bowl. Still have it still play it. Have the updated rosters. Not the same feel when you use the New ones, but still fun.
fuck yeah born in 1985
@@hmatt0587 i did the bo jackson run but its harder than it looks
im a penguins fan but a fan since 1987 1988
Really sad that the commentary and game play were better on NHL 02 compared to NHL 19
2002 was the best
The players looked more like themselves back in the day vs now😂
NHL 2001 all I remember is Theodore shuts the dooooor!
Hey man. Those graphics were amazing for the 90’s!!
Those early and mid 90s NHL games were a big part of my childhood. Such good memories, Man those were the days!!! The graphics looked so revolutionary at that time for a video game.
Love how u put the Stanley cup finals teams for each year
And how the team that won the cup scored
In 20 years we’re going to look at the NHL 2020 graphics and think “how did I ever play like this?”
Great vid. Thank. I will add that Mike Rupp got the winner in 03
Great compilation :D i remember the 97!!!
Gary Thorne was the goat hockey announcer. Docs in game calls are trash.
Ya the little league World Series announcer is better. You must be a little slow.
Gary Thorne is still my favorite announcer
In the video game Doc is worse than in real life. A little bit. I like Thorne better.
i love how it's literally just a showcase of how completely inept the goalie ai has been since day 1
that goal on Luongo would have NEVER happened from the blue line with no screen =P
When the one timer was introduced to video game hockey, it made a huge difference.
Who else had NHL Hockey growing up? That game was fun. I also had NHL 06.
NHL 17 18 19 look like the same game
GTfire AI is a joke in 19 though.
Because they are
@@OviLVR8 I get so many penalties, I have to turn them off just to be able to play
NHL 19 controls way differently
because they are
Everybody seems to like nhl 94 but my favorite was 93. You could get bloodied After hits and fighting (which was disabled in 94)
But no one timers was lame and the shot accuracy was ridiculous everyone had like 100 lol
Yeah one timer over fighting and blood any day
Yes one timers and cross checking was good addition but still 93 edges it
@@iconofsin4578 nope
@@aaronmaxim yeah NHL 94 has its own cult following and website
I miss being able to play these games. Been many years since one was released on PC.
NHL 04 was my first, was 5 years old. Now on 19 and I’m 22
Really? Mine was Nhl 2k4. I was 3 years now on 19 im 18 years old
USA vs USSR hockey was my first back in the 80s, still made by EA. Now 39.
I was 19 then
Damn, I spent countless hours playing 2001,2002 and 2003. I still remember most of the players from my then favourite teams - Islanders and Red Wings. Great memories. :)
2003 is so good that i found a ps2 disc of it in a store last week
@@SomeoneThatIsHappy Have fun!
anyone else notice that they used the Stanley Cup Finalists from the respective year each game was released? Kind of irrelevant but I just thought that was cool.
They messed up NHL 95 though by using Islanders instead of Rangers.
This brings a smile to my face!
This video was so cool!!!
1992: Cross Crease One-Timer Impossible To Stop...
2020: Cross Crease One-Timer Still Impossible To Stop..
EA fix your damn game!!
@Tommy Xenogroth why talk shit when we both know I would smack u in the game.. you cant give people tips when you probably suck at the game 😂😂😂
When I want simulation, I play NHL '19. When I want fun, I play Wayne Gretzky's 3-D Hockey on the Nintendo 64.
Ice Hockey on the original NES was awesome too! Underrated
Omg yes I member I bought that game for 3 bucks when blockbusters where going out of business such a great day lol
i like that the made the teams that were in the finals that year playing and the team that scores is the team that won
2002 is my all time favorite.
the leap on graphics from 96 to 97
It's surprising that the graphics have had rather unremarkable upgrades for almost the last decade.
Love how each year has the team that won the cup score, very creative
Edit: for a while
NHL'94 was the pinnacle of the series.
my first NHL was 98, but i love Bret Hull hockey 95 and Face Off - 1989 ♥
2010-11 to 2019, same game with better graphics and a little bit more content
That's exactly what I was thinking, the graphics aren't even miles ahead of 2010 just somewhat... Ea being ea though, changes very little and expects us to pay to restart each season just because the rosters are updated. They should have just gone with patches and IAP for yearly roster upgrades..
NHL '94 the best hockey game ever made.
RCPGivens lol real fucking talk. NY rangers/Chicago Blackhawks all day
Do an NHL 2K evolution!
HUGE jump in '97, somewhat of an advancement in 01', another jump in '07/'09, then '14 saw a boost, again in '18
Personaly i love the NHL 2000. It was the only sport game i liked to play on my fathers ps1
2005/06 were my favorites. 2010 close second. Just going off which I had the most fun with my friends
NHL 2004 was my favorite game growing up
Loved those 1 timers in 94' 😁
I remember the 1998... and I thought, how can it get any more realistic than this
*inserts huge pity leafs goal during lockout year* lololol
NHL 2000 still the best, for ever in my gaming years:)
'94 "Joseph Stumple is off his game"
'97 "His 7th of the night!"
2001 "Can't these guys skate any faster?"
I loved all the games, even tho 15 wasn’t the best, I still enjoyed playing it
Nhl 15 is one of the best
I like how you match up the championship finals teams with their according year. Well done.
I LOVED NHL '02
I wish they would add more details into the games. Like for example in season mode if you suck and lose a lot, your home arena has fewer people in it.
NHL 14 was the best, so many OTP matches played
If you weren't on that, you may as well not play at all
Took me far too long to realize that the teams playing were the previous year’s Stanley Cup Final matchups.
Except for the one after the full season lockout.
He messed up NHL 95 though. Should have been Rangers not Islanders.
The 97-98 flyers loss still hurts..
We’re definitely in a simulation. This proves it. Great video!
4 game engine updates in 30 years but they are milking your money every year. Good job, Electronic Arts!
NHL09 to NHL19 all the same thing. NHL 94-NHL 2K7-NHL 2010 are my favorites
Good man NHL 94 on Sega my fav
LOL you can literally see the progression as each year moves forward
NHL 17 was the best one. So many memories on that game, EASHL was a blast, HUT was pretty good, I remember being up early in the morning just watching the market for cheap cards, all the while listening to that great, bright soundtrack. Shit was the best...
The hours I spent playing '07 and '09... :)
