  • @DanielleWhite
    @DanielleWhite Před 2 lety +176

    The +5 inches thing isn't really used in the US anymore. IIRC the only difference between US and UK bra sizes is in the cup size labeling after D: in the US a double letter is the same as the next single letter. I'm 46J US which is 46GG UK.

      @@jess1033919 VS gave me the weirdest measurements ever. It was right after I used to work in Debenhams so I knew how to measure (as correctly as a tape measure can ever do, fit is so much more correct). The sales clerk measured band size and then above my breasts and told me I was 38 B. Of course the bras didn't fit at all so I put my own on and said none fits. She came in and tried to tell me that I was wrong, this one was perfect. Of course it was, it was my old one. So she didn't know how to measure and she didn't recognise their own stock. And that bra was 36D (oh how I miss that D cup, I am 34 GG now)

  • @martinajohnson
    @martinajohnson Před 2 lety +108

    I remember reading that the +5 method (the US bra size method) is nonsense. There was a lot of discussion on Reddit on the topic back in the day. :) Personally, I find that my band size is more or less my actual underbust measurement, and adding 5 would make the band ridiculously large.

  • @celestefenton9416

    • @missknisely
      @missknisely Před 2 lety +12

      Hannah used the end result for her 'difference' calculation instead of the actual initial measurement. So she got her band size potentially correct (for during pregnancy only), but her difference would actually be +8 inches not 3. So using the correct numbers she would be a 34H in American sizing for her current body.

    US bra wearer here- I've never heard or been told to add 5 to my underbust measurement. My band size is my underbust/rib measurement and then the cup size is the largest part of your breast minus the underbust/rib measurement. So you are likely a 29/30 GG/H in the US. I highly recommend the ABraThatFits calculator for anyone who is wanting to figure out their exact bra size! I used to be wearing a 36DD and then did the measurements as they instructed me to and learned I am actually a 30F! My bra fits amazing now and my back hurts way less (and my boobs look so cute a perky now lol)

  • @justanotherghost
    @justanotherghost Před 2 lety +65

    Some interesting information, I had a breast reduction over the summer last year and I went from a 32ff to a 32d (uk measurements). The weight removed from each breast was roughly 1kg (990g from one and 1.2kg from the other). That’s just to give you an idea and that your last reading is definitely more accurate but probably a more conservative estimate that reality! Also, I’m pretty sure the doctor told me that boobs that exceed 1kg per breast mean that you technically have gigantomastia.

  • @zZizify
    @zZizify Před 2 lety +43

    I happen to know the exact weight of mine, since I asked my surgeon to actually weigh them, before the disposal of them. Both are just above 1kg each and left one is 42g heavier! It was pretty much what I'd expected them to weigh.

  • @Alexluxaflex
    @Alexluxaflex Před 2 lety +249

    Could you calculate your bra size using the "a bra that fits calculator"? It blew my mind! When just measuring standing I'm a 34E. But when I used that calculator it gave me 32G. The bra I have now fits so much better!

    • @TheFlyingPuffin
      @TheFlyingPuffin Před 2 lety +47

      Seconding this! The "add 5, subtract this and that, blah blah blah" method is silly now. As A Bra That Fits describes, cup sizes are not what we were all trained to think, so I try not to immediately assume a given cup size is wrong given that it's so influenced by band size.

    • @SauronsEye
      @SauronsEye Před měsícem

      Agreed. I thought they only put the tray underneath to save on clean up later but then they weighed the water in the tray.
      I thought they would have realised the inaccuracy of the method they used when they tried to estimate the amount of spilt water that missed the tray.
      They could still have weighed the pot and water post boob dip and then fill the pot to the brim and weigh again to get the better measurement.

I realized a couple years ago that if you subtracted my boob weight or most of it from my BMI calculations when I was younger I would have been classified "normal/healthy".... one of the reasons I hate that scale! The first time I saw my BMI I was 12 and Samsung health told me I was overweight 🙃 que 8 years of confusion on how I could feel healthy but be "overweight" leading to dangerous dieting and eating disorders all started with a scale that mathematically doesn't make sense (for anyone!) You were meant to take the difference between 36 inches and the 29 inches you measured, meaning there's a 7 inch difference and you are a G cup size. If you take this cup size of 34G into account, then each breast comes to 2lb, which is a closer result to the water dispensement method!!

    I’ve done the boob flop and one of my boobs was 1st 7lbs, now going by your vid I’m alarmed what it could potentially actually be if done by the water displacement method.
    Also this is something that we talk about at work, the desire to weigh your boobs and how easy or hard it would be depending on size 😂

    I do bra fits at my work and that US measure is wonky AF! Its usually the band size is the inches on the tape (no adding) and the cup is the difference between the nip and the band so by thag measure you would be a 29 H (round up to 30) which is way more accurate. It’s not foolproof for bra fits because of things like stomach size and rib width etc but its a good baseline. WIKIHOW FAILED US ALL TODAY

    @jackfisher3906 Před 2 lety

    US Correct Bra Size calculation is Bust size for you 37" minus band size 29" = 8 Where did you get this add 5" craziness from? An 8" difference as you are between band and bust = H Cup! Which sounds correct by your ample appearance.

    You guys are so fantastic! Both serious and humorous and definitely so comfortable and trusting of each other, so awesome to see. There is another way you can do this and that is to create a 3D mold of your boobs, breast tissue have a defined density and from that volume and density, you can very accurately determine the weight. That being said, the water displacement method is one that gets used most commonly but this only provides the volume of your breasts, the weight of the water is not the same as body fat & breast tissue so there are some maths that is needed here. Anyway, I rattle on. Once you get a process that works for you and that just maybe determines if your breasts do increase in size and not actually their weight. Great video once again with a gold Clapp being extended to Dan the assistant. Cheers to you all.

    @laurel1800 Před 2 lety +1

    the best way to get your bra size (in US sizes) is to measure under your breasts for the band size in inches, (if it's odd, round up to the next even number) and then measure around at the fullest part of your breast. Every inch in difference between those two numbers is a cup size. For example, if I measure 34 inches under my breasts and 37 at the fullest part of my boobs, then my US bra size would be a 34 C

  • @fvsfn

    Alternate method : climb on a scale, weight full body; have your partner support them, read scale again while they are supported; the difference between the readings is the B weight (assuming this protocol is compatible with morphology). We tried that during pregnancy and got a similar reading than yours with density.

    Possible variable to correct for with the water displacement, temperature could cause shrinkage heat it to body temp first (37c)

    • @duck6100
      @duck6100 Před 2 lety +1

      Are you talking about evaporation? It's not clear to me. If you are, I think any evaporation induced by her higher body temperature will not be significant enough to even be measured, especially if we assume she only made contact with the water for a few seconds. A much bigger difference will be sources of human error associated with not getting the right amount of breast in the pan or not filling the pan enough. Besides, if you want to minimise evaporation then heating the water to room temperature would not do this?

    • @glenwithacamera2798
      @glenwithacamera2798 Před 2 lety +1

      @@duck6100 no I’m talking about blood flow, when you introduce an extremity to a colder temperature, shrinkage of tissue occurs it’s slight but definitely measurable

    I once weighed mine when I was a bit younger as I always had bigger ones. But 2 years ago I got a reduction where they removed 1kg and I went down about 5-6 cupsizes. I was about a j and now I’m about a dd/e still wish they where smaller some days but then I remember how much a difference it is. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that finds stuff like this funny and interesting haha 😂

    For uk to USA conversion uk 31g would be a USA 32i. In USA it’s a loose over bust measurement and you add two inches to your band size. So your bad would be a 32 and I’m guessing a loose measurement would be 39-40, so you’d be a 32 G or I in USA.

    A fun video, but the point you raised at the start about the possible fluctuations due to cycles, could be an interesting citizen science project. You could rally a bunch of your subscribers to conduct measurements at various times over the course of a few months. Could be a research paper in it.

    You'd actually be a 28H in the US based on your measurements which is equivalent to a GG in the UK. There's no need to add the 5 inches to your band size. You'd be a 28 or a 30" band (since you're 28.5 you'd probably go down for comfort cause a 30 might be too loose, but also that's semi personal preference) and then for each number different between 28/30 and 37, you go up a cup size.
    28 - AA
    29 - A
    30 - B
    31 - C
    32 - D
    33 - DD
    34 - DDD/E
    35 - F
    36 - G
