- I remove the 307 sbc from the 1969 chevelle. There's around 20 days to Hotrod Power Tour when this was filmed, so that seems to make sense right? I found a really unique unibell transmission with the tabs undrilled! Something you don't see every day. I plan on seeing why this 307 is hurt, and maybe even do something with it. The plan for a new engine? Well watch and find out...

After having done so on my 68, i can really recommend a power steering swap. Running a Grand Cherokee V8 steering box, used the lines from that too, messy but it works, now car is a lot less effort to drive! Not that steering was heavy, but MAN, 10 turns from lock to lock got old fast
It's became my tradition at work to watch one video a day while on lunch break while eating. You make my days better. I laugh alot. And it helps with the work aggravations

In all seriousness, I think you've hit upon the magic formula---beater hot rods are where it's at. You can have loads of fun with dilapidated old iron without taking out a second mortgage on the house, and the cool factor is still there. For Rocky, I'd probably get a salvage yard 350 out of a Suburban, add an RV cam (for maximum burnout fun) and whistle 'er in

A shift kit would be nice with a 2500 rpm stall and a 350 ci with a nice lumpy cam and new pinion seal for the rear end would suit rocky pretty well.

I am enjoying watching a youngish Chevy man digging into everything. I yanked a few of them boat anchors out myself back when Shep was a pup. Worked on some 283s and 327s but junked them 307s. Had a 67,68,and a couple 69s Chevelles. Man they could take a beaten. Thanks for the memories and keep on wrenchen!!!!😳🤩🇺🇸

Great engine, great memories. I had a ‘71 Nova with the 307, 3 speed Muncie floor shift, bucket seats ,positraction.
Order from GM , $3400. cdn .new. Ex wife rani it into an oak tree and buckled the dash, in ‘83,got $2000 back on insurance .
Would still have it today if I could.
I had a 1968 of the same red Malibu. I totaled it on Christmas morning in 1975. Can't wait to see Rocky back together.

You are correct about, it's not good pulling the engine by yourself. I've pulled every engine by myself and put them back in by myself. I did drop the transmission first, by myself with a floor jack. It's not a game for the faint of heart.
I just did the " one man hood snatch" on a 2004 Chevy Silverado I'm building. I'm 71years old and you think I should know better. However, I removed the under hood insulation pad before I removed the hood. That made it sooooo much lighter! Keep doing the best car builder videos on you tube!
Reminded me of my past, doing jobs like this, and rebuilding engine trans, for another go around! Unfortunately, we always found such jobs in the winter when it's cold and your fingers would losing their circulation, so you couldn't feel the bolts any more. Oh, and always working on the ground, and pulling the engine puller didn't want to roll so well in the dirt, as on a cement floor! First time was on my '57 Chevy Bel Air 2 door ht, as the 283ci was tired, and needed to be refreshed! Always nice to hear it roar back to life, giving you a good feeling that you didn't forget any of the many thousands of parts you ended up with before putting it back together!

That heat shield issue was the first introduction of why I don't understand GM engineering, the second was the distributor in the back. Never owned a GM but enjoy watching you work on them. OBTW I am a Toyota guy.

Some see a rusty car and he sees history worth saving. How can a guy argue with that? I wish I was the one that found Rocky. I have only had two cars that spoke to me when I seen them and this one makes 3. So glad it found an amazing family and a new home. Glad to see I am not the only one with the dropsies. I got me a nail finder 400 on a stick, so I can magnetize any steel parts or tools I drop underneath. Since you got the engine out, I would have cleaned out the engine bay and at the least, do a rattle can bay paint job.
I wonder if Summit Racing has any shift kits or stall converters that would work. Pretty sure a guy could call Abner at his desk on extension 6919 on Sunday or Monday to get them shipped first thing Tuesday.

1969 Chevelle one of my all time favorite cars. So hard to find one in decent shave in the northeast. Love to see it get a 396 or even mild build 350, personally I'd keep it era correct and drive it like it sits

Rebuild the 307. Just to make people say "should of swap a 350". And 307 are misunderstood. They are economy motors. Not meant for power. I have one in my 71 gmc and it's not to bad.

the point of getting rid of the 307 is it is an economy motor, not built for performance. Leaving it in may be authentic but it’s a waste of a classic car to leave in granny’s grocery getter power plant.

Years ago in the late 70's I had 69 Impala Custom Coupe with the 350 255 hp engine. I had the same problem, had to add oil every week, fouled out the 'sparkolaters' about 4 times within 6 months. I later learned I could've used a hotter plugs and sitting at a light it smoked blue smoke like it was on fire. That was my 3rd and final Chevy.
That vacuum up the radiator trick is terrific! I want to pull my motor just so I can try this!!

307's were hurt from the go... find yourself a nice little four bolt 350, do your tricky bits, rattle can it and roll off into the sunset : ]
You got that right, 307's were junk when new. A 283 would run circles around them.
A 307 is a stroked 283, same exact block, heads, cam, just a 327 crank 👍🐱👤
Never knew that for the numbers. Still... why do we not see any built ? GM never made a four barrel dual exhaust version either... maybe VGG should build one and show us the magic combination ?
I would lose the 307 myself. With everyone LS swapping stuff you can pick up 350s for dirt cheap. A set of vortec heads and mild cam would make a nice little street engine.
