  • The Michigan DNR does an amazing job of creating campgrounds and keeping those areas clean however there are still free camp spots to be found in the Upper Peninsula. There is some foil failing, blueberry picking and stumbling upon amazing spots in this video. Thanks so much for watching and make sure you are subscribed for more videos truck camping across the country!

The little lake you stayed at is called Little Pearch Lake. Right across the road from you is the road to goto the Mouth of the Two Hearted River. My wife and I stayed at your little spot a couple of years ago. Now, we travel about a mile down a trail from there to our special lake where we camp at. It is even more secluded and a very nice lake.

I'm here for the sailing, but love inland nature too. This was a really nice, feel-good video. You showed some great stuff on the U.P.. Never been there, and only know about it from my buddy telling me of the miserable winters with cars buried under snow during his time there in the 1980's at K.I. Sawyer AFB. Safe travels, from a PA sailor who just covered up his boat for the winter. :(

Very nice video, you really captured the essence of the area I was born and raised in. Makes me a little home sick but I retired to where it's warm all year and easy on the old bones. If you get a chance check out the Les Cheneaux Islands on the east end of the U.P. a lot of historic areas there, Mackinac Island for example. No cars horses and bikes only.

Bringing back memories of farm life, and a very long wash board dirt road that would flood in the winter, and a 1/4-mile washboard driveway that we would have to regrade every few months or so. I never pictured Michigan to look like that either.

That is always a problem with washboard roads, you don’t know whether to go real real slow or speed up to try and cruise over the hundreds of bumps in the road, either way it jars the heck out of you and your vehicle. Hey guys, did you by any chance get out and look at that road closely. It's likely a corduroy road which is made by putting logs across the road and then filling the spaces in between with gravel. The lumpiness of the logs never really goes away thus the very regular and very rough ride. The good thing is it tends to reduce pot holes. Glad you appreciate my adopted home state. Half of the people of Michigan live in metro Detroit and once you get north of Lansing the population per square mile goes way down. In the UP it's even less. The UP has 29% of the land of Michigan but only 3% of the population or about 300,000 people, less than many good sized cities. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

Ah yes, that road isn’t any different now than it was 25 years ago. It gets graded usually in the spring and by fall it’s washboard again. You must visit the other Grand Marais on the north shore of Superior in MN. Stop at Sven and Ole’s pizza. In Munising there used to be neat old restaurant The Dog Patch with the theme of the L’il Abner comic strip. Food is ok the ambiance is more interesting. You’re probably well west of there now. The area around the Apostle Islands deserves some time too.
