As a Brit and long time fan of the USA, the main problem with the disintegration of the GOP under Trump and this cowardly Congress is what it may well mean which is the slow decline of American influence in the world and that will be a problem with domestic consequences for the US. Ukraine and Europe are already starting to adjust to the reality of an 'unreliable' America, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and the Phillipines too are likely to be weighing their options whilst wishing for better from the US. This is also true of the corporate and non-profit sectors. A salient quote from the Christian Bale Exodus movie is that [sic] "The people best equipped to acquire power are least equipped to wield it (properly)." We as a people in the United States must look at our culture, because our culture impacts so much of our world, and seek a way to fix it. The problem of the Republican Party is that the extreme views of Trump are not acceptable and people in the GOO are quitting out of desperation to deal with him. I have become a more compassionate understanding person but Trump just care about himself. He had all these legal claims and its' companies investigation for ages, way before he became president. He can not say this claims started now because it is not true. Only the election fraud in Fulton county were uncovered more recently, but the NY state investigation on his company has 5-6 years in the making. So he is not saying the truth or lying about the origins of these legal claims against him. The Egene Carroll case also happened many years ago. The solution to the radicalization and dysfunction in Congress is rank choice voting. In those states where it occurs, the winners of elections tend more towards the center and moderate positions in policy. Rank choice voting should be the law of the land, because it really works and it's one of those things the founders just didn't think of back when they were establishing our country. But, we know more now. The whole country needs to geek out on statistics and see the strength of rank choice voting. The concept should be taught in schools and it should be the way we do things.

And… Every one of those GOP Maga folks in Congress should be sent a bill at the end of this term for the entire amount of their salaries for the utter waste of time they have subjected us to-- a very costly waste of time of our taxpayer money!

One person; one vote. Trump would not have won an election and would have never been president.

Why is compromise a bad word these days? I was brought up to work with people to come to a result all parties could be ok with. There was an understanding that no one would get everything they wanted but it would be a solution for all involved. Anyone who pouted and whined about it was looked down on or considered childish.

Does it matter that they are down to one vote when they have no intention of doing anything.

A little off topic, but no Congress person should be in office for 30, 40 or 50 years. It is unfortunate but the big problem with our elections is that we are lazy. Most people don't bother to vote and those that do just go for the name they know or look for the "D" or "R" behind the candidate's name. That's why people like Green and Gaetz, who are in solid red districts, won't be voted out any time soon. It's a shame, but until 'we the people' take our voting seriously, we will never have a serious legislative government.

Sorry. I don't think it's the politics that's bringing out the worst in people. I think it's the media. And it doesn't matter what stripe the media is. All they do is aggravate and exacerbate.
