    Tackling from behind is allowed (but the tackler must not interfere with the body or stick of the player with the ball).

    On a shootout, the attacker doesn't have to hit the ball into the goal. They can hit, push, flick, drag flick, scoop, or dribble the ball across the goal-line.

      @@majidwani7075 That is at the end of game where both teams are equal in score. The 8 seconds shoutout starts. The attacker can then either hit, push, flick, drag flick, scoop, or dribble the ball across the goal-line before the 8 seconds are over.

    On a penalty corner the attacking team can take a shot on goal even though the ball didn't not leave the circle HOWEVER, the attack cannot score a goal until after the ball has left the circle.

    You are allowed to play a ball that is above your shoulder. That prohibition was removed many years ago. You have to be careful but, you are allowed to swing your stick and play the ball that is above your shoulder. That is NOT a foul.

      Lots of the information in this video is wildly wrong, just read the official FIH or you assosication rule book.

      with scoop/ overhead passes if a defender can receive it so the info on foul with overheads is somewhat wrong because if defending player is receiving must be given 5 no matter on the situation additionally it always have to go 5 before entering the d if its in the attacking quarter

    I enjoyed so much of this BUT the location you show for the free hit at 8:19 is wrong. If the ball is lifted safely, there is never a restart at the lift. If there is a problem at the landing zone, which you highlighted perfectly, the free hit happens at the landing zone. Please fix.

    Can you as a player step outside the field lines while having the ball but without the ball leaving the field parameters ? or would that also be considered a foul and posession be given to the opposition

      @@TheSchoolOfSports wrong. It is considered a corner. Some referees like another person commented might give them a pass if they don’t see it as intentional, but if it is intentional, than it’s definitely a corner. Might be a new rule because I only found this out last year lol

      @@TheSchoolOfSports that is incorrect. the goalkeeper is permitted to DEFLECT the ball in any direction (including the backline) but isn't permitted to play it over the backline. please research the rules before making videos like this because this video is so misleading, this is from an umpires perspective

    The description of why a penalty stroke is awarded is wrong. A penalty stroke is not only awarded if a foul inside the circle is dangerous. Further, you said the attacker gets one chance to HIT the ball on a penalty stroke. The attacker may NOT hit the ball. The attacker can only push or flick the ball (but they cannot drag flick the ball).

    The description of using the hitting action on a penalty corner and the ball must hit the boards is WRONG. There is no such requirement. Please read the rule and correct.

      Yes there IS. Idk what kind of shitty country of referees you got, but you are NOT allowed to go above the board when shooting at the goal during a corner.
      The only exceptions are when shooting is when you shoot low, but someone lays their stick in a position that causes the ball to go above the board.
      Also when the ball goes outside the striped lines, but then it’s not a corner anymore.

      @@Njx063 There are no referees in field hockey, only umpires. And, you're also not correct about the rules governing penalty corners if you think you're not allowed to score above the boards on a penalty corner. I am only referring to the FIH's Rules of Hockey.

      @@crismaloney I agree with most of your other comments in this post but I'm not so sure about this one. Just double checked the FIH rules for Jan 2022 and it states in section 13.3 "if the first shot at goal is a hit (as opposed to a push,
      flick or scoop), the ball must cross the goal-line, or be
      on a path which would have resulted in it crossing the
      goal-line, at a height of not more than 460 mm (the
      height of the backboard) before any deflection, for a
      goal to be scored".

      @@andrehannah2700 Let’s start by agreeing that in no part of 13.3 does the rule say that the ball has to make contact with the backboard. There are multiple ways that the hitting action can be used on the first shot and the ball never touches the boards.

    Two defenders and tackling from behind is allowed. Maybe an old rule but sure isn't in use anymore
    Edit: and penalty shootouts are only used in tournaments with eliminations of teams like the olympics and I guess for finals but not sure

    Your description of a free hit location after the ball goes out-of-bounds over the backline is wrong. The team does NOT have to bring the ball 15 meters away from the backline.

      this I found was a bit odd. As I am seeing it now (as in current tournament), the ball is being brought to half line for such a free hit. this could be indoor specific; I would have to verify.

    You can shoot as high as you want regardless of how close another player is to you. The 5 meter rule applies on free hits, trapping an overhead, and throwing an overhead.

      if you hit in the direction of the player and the player is less than 5yds, it can be a foul; the ump has the final say. If you hit away from the player (ie to the left or right) at the same distance, it is OK.

    You mention a few times that a hit in the air but below the knee is allowed - it's not if played intentionally. Rule 9.9 Players must not intentionally raise the ball from a hit except for a shot at goal.

    Two defenders are allowed to defend against a player with the ball. Not sure where you are getting that from. It is NOT a foul to defend a player with the ball with more than one player.

      This one is true actually it counts as an obstruction if 2players try to take the ball from them. 2 players can approach ball handler to take the ball as long as they don't both come from the front of the ball handler.

      @@jakelamotta2387 There is nothing like that in the rules. "Players obstruct if they:
      - back into an opponent physically interfere with the stick or body of an opponent
      - shield the ball from a legitimate tackle with their stick or any part of their body."
      Two players (in fact, any number of players) can approach the ball handler from in front without blocking the ball carrier or another opponent and stopping them from legitimately playing or attempting to play the ball.
      The worst that might happen if two players approach from the front is that they might obstruct each other which, of course, wouldn't matter!

    Your description of obstruction is not correct. A player can block a pathway of an attacker with the ball. They cannot block an attacker from getting the ball.

    Just watched about 10 seconds of the video (skipping to the 'things which are not allowed part') and I already noticed two critical mistakes. Tackling from behind and two defenders on one attacker ARE NOT fouls, only interfering with the body or the stick of an opponent is. Didnt want to waste 15 minutes of my life watching the rest of the video, but I reckon if the video doesnt even have basics like this right there have to be many more mistakes in the video.

    I'm a former hockey player and umpire, and there's a lot wrong with this video. Too much for me to correct in the comments section, but if there's one error that stand out, it's the tackling from behind. There were so many times i'd hear players and umpire claim this. I don't know how this myth started, but it's bullshit. Plain and simple; not true. There is no requirement in the rules as to where you can take from, other than that it must be from a position where you can play the ball without making bodily contact.

    7:09: no, on a tomahawk, the flat side of the stick should be facing the ground, not up. Most points are good, but plenty of errors in the rules that conflict with FIH's January 2022 rules.

      @@Njx063 Nope. Referees don't make judgments. Umpires make judgments. Example, basketball referee is like a police officer. The defender touched the shooter in the act of shooting or didn't. The whistle is blown if the defender made contact. In field hockey, the defender breached by touching the attacker but the umpire judges what happens and, like a judge, applies a punishment -- everything from nothing to a penalty stroke and a red card.

      Bro you need to stop whining about it my man's tried his best to make an informative video and yeah he made a few mistakes, understandable because I doubt he plays hockey. Take a chill pill honestly, you don't need to be so right about everything all the time, watch the video make a couple of corrections at most and then move on, most people watching this will be viewing it as other sports purely out of interest, or hockey players themselves who already know the rules or will learn them in time. Not sure about you but I can't remember someone who was skilled enough to throw an overhead, but not understand the rule at all. 🤷‍♂

    There is so much wrong with this video and it's impressive. You really need to get a rule book and read it as there are several mistakes in this video. For example, tackling from behind is perfectly legal, the same thing applies to standing in the way of the attacker which is also perfectly legal. Hitting out the back of the field you take it from the first quarter line more commonly known as the 25. The two lines on the side used to be used for long corners as you would take the ball from either one.
    In short, you should be ashamed of the low quality and misleading nature of the video.
