    21:59 In Bangkok, some junction have a "Blue Left Turn Sign" which mean you can turn left on the most far left lane even there's a red light. The "Left turn red light" only apply to lane #2 and #3. In the video, locals were turning from lane #2 because you were blocking the far left lane and they went around you instead of honking. You can see after they turned they changed lane to the far left lane, and there was no incoming traffic to collide with them.

      @TravelsWithBert Před 6 měsíci

      I beg to differ. Whilst it's true you can make a left on a normal red, if you look carefully that red light has a left arrow to indicate you cannot turn left on red. Usually there's a policeman standing around the corner to catch you. --paul

      @@TravelsWithBert You're right. Except there's a "Blue Left Turn Sign" or in Thai call "Len Sai Sud Pan Ta Lot" which allow you to ignore any red light and turn left as long as you're in the far left lane. This rule does not apply to every junction. Only junction with the sign. The sign is not showing in the video, but it is there.

      Well I couldn't tell from the video when they left the hotel where exactly it was they were trying to go. All they were doing was taking this huge van from the UK and driving it straight to the center of a super packed flea market... They wanted to see a train or something... But I guess they weren't going to ride it since they have a van... Yeah, oh yeah that's about as far as I got. Then after that I guess they were going to continue driving around the world 🤪

    I stumbled across and have binge watched your vlogs today since you entered Thailand, and will no doubt review your past vlogs another time.
    I was in Bangkok on 1st March, but have lived in Thailand 12yrs, and am used to driving Thai style. Im based just outside Pattaya.
    Massive respect to Marianne for driving in the chaos for the first time though, it can be intimidating for new drivers in the City.
    I havent done a Road Trip around Thailand for over 6mths, and your vlogs have given me itchy feet to do one soon. I like the places you sometimes stay in, like the Parami Farm Stay, as thats the type of places my wife and i stay....basic but comfy.

    I will be hard for you to get a Chinese visa in Thailand for two reasons: 1) normally you need to apply for Chinese visa in your home country - a few overlanders have managed to do it abroad but they are far and few (we crossed China in our car from Kyrgyzstan to Laos and had to fly back to Paris to get the visa). 2) For some unknown reason visiting Turkey is a red flag for the Chinese. We had one Turkey stamp in our passports for a weekend stay in Istanbul and we were called in for interview about this. So with your long stay in Turkey during Covid it might be a challenge. Your best solution is probably to ship from Port Klang in Malaysia to Chennai in India and go south of the Himalayas rather than north. Your next challenge will be to get across Iran who are not keen on US, UK and Australia passports. But you can do it with an Iranian guide following you (like China requires). It is a bit expensive for the long drive but otherwise you need to ship again which probably is the same cost. After Iran it is an easy peasy home run from Georgia and back. You can also cross from Iran directly to Turkey. Good luck and safe roads.

    A tip for you..if you're looking for carparks in Thailand, find a buddhist temple or commonly known as a wat. Parking is always available and abundant. The good thing about this is its 99% always free and there's a buddhist temple basically on every other road. Secondly those shrines you saw in the hotel are called spirit houses. Its where the spirits of the land reside. Almost every home and building will have it. Sometimes they're even called ghost houses....

      I also agree with this comment - try again! China is rarely black and white. Some have commented that CZcams could be the issue but I doubt that as there are many western CZcamsrs in China who are actively encouraged by the government to show China in a positive light. While you are not necessarily pro-China, your optimistic nature almost always brings out the best in every country you visit and despite any political misgivings anyone might have regarding China, it's a vast and amazing country with so much to offer.

    The little shrines you see everywhere are called spirit houses or ghost houses. They are built to house spirits that have been disturbed by construction of the property it stands on and provides them a place to live. The spirits are believed to be protectors of the property which is why there is usually food and drinks and other offerings on them

    on a red light in Thailand you are always allowed to turn left but need towatch for uncoming traffic if free you can turn on a red light

    22:00 Local here. I drive here everyday. On the first traffic light not the repeated one, you should see a sign saying you are permitted to “turn left on red in the furthermost left lane” when it’s safe to do so.

    Those little shrines in the various properties that you have encountered are called 'spirit houses'. They are built to house the original spirits that dwell the land, usually before the building structures are constructed on the land, so that these spirits will not haunt the human occupants.

    Mind that all the electrical cables are up because they cannot be set up underground due to frequent flooding on rainy seasons.

    Hi just subscribed although I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now. You are my favourite you tubers to watch and I come home from work mid afternoon every Sunday and sit down with my lunch looking forward to watching your video! I like watching you because you are obviously so nice and incredibly calm and patient when faced with challenges. And you are interesting and dynamic to watch without being hyper hyper! Love watching your travels and will miss you when you get home. Take care and hope you enjoy the rest of your travels!😊💕😁

      Thanks Anne - we appreciate that and we are grateful for your feedback - after this challenge there will be a little time to rest, recover and regroup (and lots of hugs with family) and then we are planning another trip / trips and adventures ... so fear not !! big love Marianne xx

    Well that is so sad that you didn't get your Chinese Visa to continue your world journey. I guess they were concerned that you may have had connections with ethnic Uighurs whilst in Turkey. They are a persecuted Moslem group within China. I admire your resilience in the face of adversity and hope that you will be able to find an interesting route home. God bless you and keep you safe on your travels. 😀❤🙏

    We were just at that market in early January. Seeing videos online of the train, I was expecting it to move faster than it actually does. I guess most of the online videos are sped up. Too bad about the Chinese visa, but it will all work out in the end. Keep on Truckin' BTW, Marianne is a Super Trouper braving that Bangkok traffic! Something I'll have to do here in a couple of years when we retire over there.

    You can turn left on a red light in Thailand providing it is clear for you to do so.

    • @grahaml6072
      @grahaml6072 Před 6 měsíci

      Not 100% accurate. You can turn left on red unless there is a sign stating that you can’t. So you need to check if there is a sign first.
