    I’m subscribe to George as well, cool channel too. This was a real good video Ground Control, and you know what you are absolutely right about the necessity of certain equipment and the absolute need for it, especially in the radio field. Never mind the haters you come across, they are just jealous in some odd way lol. Keep up the awesome channel dude. 73

      Agreed! If you’re not gonna have a tone generator with the Oscope during tuning this you might as well not even have an Oscope, and that’s what Ground control meant by that and it’s just facts about procedure and the tools needed to complete the job correctly.

      @@420commslink Exactly, the day I don’t need a tone generator is the day car mechanics no longer needs wrenches!

      All in all, Im just glad we got you Ground Control… No cheap Chinese encoders and bogus palomar max mod promoting, you keep it real without tearing people down with bad words and discontent, everything you stated the 1khz tone is spot on.

    • @commslinktv
      @commslinktv Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, Ground control pulls no punches and does it with facts and respect which is a rarity. All these other techs just bash people with absolute no class, especially the old guy in NM. Toxic bash videos turn any good channel to 💩

    I have been tring to learn as much as I can on the repair of radios. I have a hard time finding the service manuals. I like things stock. I,m working on a RCI-2970n2 now. I have a nice 200mhz scope, a 80mhz signal gen, a bird 43, a tnysa and a nanovna. It is a start. I'm retired and this is a hobby. I watch most of your videos to hope to pick up some info.

    A great video! I’m an old fart of 66. Been in this stuff since I was 9. But I do surface mount, mainly due to my Elmer, who is 69. Back in the early 70’s I used to see people short out the filter coils in their radios. Their little cheap meters showed a tiny bit more wattage out when they did that. I tried to educate them that they were measuring harmonics and trash like that, not genuine CB power. But, as a 20 year old, what did I know, right? I built my own antennas, power mics, linear amplifiers, antenna tuners, and receiver preamp. They told me I couldn’t do that! Some actually came to my house to see it for themselves! CB people are a strange bunch. They messed their radios up and wondered why they failed. Like putting really big capacitors in their Golden Eagles so they did a really long scream when they keyed up. Then they wondered why their relay burned up! They put foil in their hubcaps because someone said it blocked radar guns! They ran a wire from their CB into their cars radiator because water in it made a better ground! I can’t make this stuff up! Thanks for showing real information. And having good meters instead of the despicable Dosy that makes people think their 4 watt radio is doing 50!

    Thank you, sir.

    You got me shaky handed, can't focus like I used to, even with tri-focal spectacles. I admit it. I am an old tinkerer who probably will not make the transition to surface mount radios. I am ok with that. Because you, and a few others who do radios right, have picked the ball up in my place. Rock on Brother! I have your back. I do not subscribe to those I do not believe in. 😑🦗

      I have nothing but respect for my elders, I adore the old school fellas and if us younger ones just shut up for awhile we can sit back and learn a whole bunch, nothing but love for the old school guys who actually made the SMD transition, no doubt about it. Also, Grasshopper thanks so much for your awesome comment and your support. 73 sir👋🏻

    The 2950s and 2970s are some of my favorites for sideband. There is a big need for surface mount radio techs for CB and Amateur radio.

      Recap the radio with all new capacitors would usually fix your issue.

      I had my 2950 DX in my closet in its original box with everything new in box my cuz gave it to me as a gift 8 years ago wanted to use it in my mobile with my stryker A10 mag mount and my Palomar 4 pill with 4 1446s in it but noticed it kept dimming.its the one of my radios that does that.im in Dallas Texas would like to know where your located and how much it would cost me to get it done and take a look at the radio. I have a lot of radios I could use but I really like the 2950.dont know if it's a match with my Palomar 450hd but my 4 cobra 148s and my galaxy 949 work good with it but they all have variable power.

    Ok so I had some time to chill and do a little research on the guy out west that's talking smack about this channel. Heck man don't feel alone, it looks like he spends most of his time bashing and trashing other radio techs despite them being good or bad at what they do. Hey 204, maybe you're hurting his wallet that bad brother. To me skills go hand-in-hand with integrity, just do what's morally right and let the chips fall where they may...

      Hey Phoenix, I agree bud and I think it’s flattering. You already know if they have time to make bash videos and screenshots then they obviously have very little work for themselves. 73
