[Trip Report] - United Express Ogdensburg, N.Y.

- Come along with me on this most unusual trip report. This week I flew from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Chicago O'Hare (ORD), but not nonstop, I planed a connection in a SMALL city located in far northern New York State named "Ogdensburg"... The city is part of the governments Essential Air Service (EAS) program, SkyWest is contracted to fly one round trip, seven days a week to Washington Dulles and five round trips a week to Chicago O'Hare from the city.
On the five days a week that Chicago is offered, you can fly what is probably the most unusual, interesting, and unique way of getting between two United hubs, that is, if your up to it... ENJOY!!!

One tip, I would remove the music on trip reports, i’ve noticed it much more enjoyable for people to watch (that’s what people tell me) but I still loved the video!
I live in Ogdensburg! If you ever visit the city, I recommend going to Val’s Deli, everything is homemade! Kiddy corner from the movie theater and the best pizza place in town, Cams Pizzeria
I actually ordered delivery from Cams when I had my connection in OGS :)

Thanks for sharing! Looks like the same route I did but just going the other direction lol! Nice shots of KOGS. Kinda weird how you can stop at a small strip, and go out to the parking lot in while flying between two major airports. I think you and I are are honestly the only people so far with full trip reports out of Ogdensburg!

Some flaps and speed brakes same time. I get it. Slowing down and descending fast
Yeah, felt like a rather fast descent. Plus this is the earliest in the flight (and highest in altitude) I have every seen them lower flaps at
First time on your channel--I'm impressed with OGS! Such a vast array of choices for food! The gate area,where does one sit,it's packed! The ticket counter line stretches out the door! Car rental options are mind-boggling! No place to park for visitors! :) One bonus everybody got for free coming from Dulles--flying to Canada(or at least Canadian airspace)--its crazy that UA requires you to get off the plane,only to reboard it later on to continue on to ORD--did you purposefully exit the secure area for filming or does TSA insist on being 'rescreened'? Your music sounds like something you'd hear in a bar/club--did you get any FF miles for both segments? Inflight service?
Thanks for visiting my channel! I try to focus on smaller airports. The gate area is actually spacious for a 50-seat jet, with Allegiant discontinuing service to OGS it will be a while before big jets go back there again. Your right, parking lot seemed small considering they *used to* get 156-seat airbus jets. The ticket counter area is way to small for the amount of people that went through there pre-pandemic. I actually had a connection, the plane went from IAD-OGS and I got off and waited for the ORD flight 2hrs later. But now the jet goes IAD-OGS-ORD, so you could stay on if you wanted to. There was only 6 people on my IAD flight and 3 on the ORD flight so there was no typical service, the flight attendant instead said if we wanted something just push the call button and she'll bring over what we wanted. I used to live in Ogdensburg, it is a nice little town
I never actually went outside of the airport, I only connected there between Washington DC and Chicago... But the airport was very nice
Curious to know how much ODG dropped on Skywest to fly OGS-ORD. Between them already having the EAS contract to IAD and using the slot at ORD I'm sure OGS made it well worth their while.
OGS didn’t give them any money... they are part of the Essential Air Service (EAS) program. They (SkyWest) gets government funding to fly a minimum of 12 weekly round trips to a large sized airport. SkyWest just chose to do 1 daily to both O’Hare and Dulles rather than 2 daily to only one of them

I chose this, I could’ve gone nonstop... but where’s the fun in that 🤷♂️
