When Karajan wasn’t young but not yet old. From 1980 onwards he looked very old, and he started to open his eyes while conducting.
Karajan's style is always a plaisure for ears.

Karajan, the best conductor ever. I like beyond the quality of his direction, his gesture wich is only grace on earth.
Darnet, Karajan is the best I've ever heard conducting this, but it's just not the same without the grand opening notes played tutti by the full orchestra, it grabs everyone's attention and sets the tone for what is to come; it's a shame it's not included here.

I didn't like that at all. Much too prominent.
Its actually a tambourin part. Meant to be played on a tenor drum. The way that they did it was incorrect.

@@elevenvideola Thank you. Why does it seem like no one has read Gooldemberg's Modern School for Snare Drum, where he literally states this exact piece and how it's actually a special type of tenor drum not a tambourine or tenor drum? A professional percussionist should know better.

Film was British 1956, It's Great To Be Young starring John Mills and Cecil Parker. Wonderful music. Film is available on DVD. One of my favourites.
