The Casita has a wood floor. Yes, there's a fiberglass pan on the bottom, but that doesn't prevent leaking from the top or sides. Bottom line, if your Casita wood floor rots, it's VERY difficult and expensive to replace. If a Scamp wood floor rots, it's easy to replace (they literally just lift the hull off the frame). But the fact of the matter is, it's unlikely either will rot in our lifetimes. Both are excellent trailers with good builds and resale value.

The thinking and the planning is always the best part for me, so I've thoroughly enjoyed your process. I do just want to express one concern. When you go tomorrow to the Casita, please spend A LOT of time in it. If you have to STOOP, EVEN ANY AT ALL, it's going to wind up hurting you physically and structurally living in it. The neck is a delicate area and meant to be held straight up. Age and the weight of our heads already try to pull on our neck. And when the neck gets aggravated, look out back and shoulders and on an on. Cheering you on from afar

A loaded van pulled in to the only remaining campsite. Four children leaped from the vehicle and began feverishly unloading gear and setting up the tents. Two of them rushed to gather firewood, while the other two and their mother set up the camp stove and cooking utensils. A nearby camper marveled to the youngsters' father, "That, sir, is some display of teamwork."
The father replied, "I have a system... no one goes to the bathroom until the camp is set up."

Something not discussed much at the dealership etc. is axle ratio, salesmen just sell and don't even study the variances. had they informed or make it known a 3.55 axle tows up to 7,240 vice your 4,940. This 3.6L is an amazing engine....

If you would like to have permanent seating in the 13ft Scamp, cut the 54" wide tabletop down to 27" and not you have a single bed. The freed up space now allows for seating for 2, or seating for 1 and make a table, shelving, or whatever on the opposite side.

Yep, the 17' Casita is definitely better due to the bottom construction, headroom and distance to the factory. There is almost always a cost to get exactly what you want (and at our age - I'm 65 in August) don't settle. You probably can't get EXACTLY what you want "used" to reduce cost (I've looked for you online) so you're doing the right thing IMHO. Can't wait to see Casita factory video.

This was great! Ram even in 7th gear is still in an overdrive gear. I have read on the Ram Forums running in 7th with a 3:21 diff, is the equivalent of a 3:92 rear gear. So now you have the best of both worlds. Look, Rusty, you can't take it with you, and you are no longer paying for T shirts. Go for it. Casita did you a big favor by discontinuing the 13 ft. You should be happy with the 17 ft for a while. Putting green...I love it! Lol

I owned a 13" Scamp several years ago. Warranty work is done at any Major RV dealership. The way it works, the dealership calls Scamp for authorization and payment then does the work. Scamp was good at allowing all warranty work. Some of my issues with my 13' Scamp from the factory were : Brakes did not work, incorrectly wired, Bathroom door was so warped it would open while towing(latch didn't hold) Also front window in bathroom leaked water when towing in the rain. Door seal fell off the unit 4 times in the first year. If I had to do over I would buy a Casita

Rusty, you know you don't need a refrigerator with freezer inside your trailer.
You can put a chest freezer on your deck next to your clothes washer.
You can put any combination of refrigerator and freezer on your deck, you could even have an ice cube maker built in.
Just put a chain around it, or put a shackle on it, and lock it up before you go on your trips.

I am also researching Campers all the while researching what state I want to move to, cuz Vermont is just too cold and it's time for me to find another state to try out. Sounds like U made the right decision going with Casita. Scamp skimpy go Casita. Besides all the extra expenses wear and tear and stress from the trip to Minnasota. But maybe a furnace be nice for chilly days? Whats your alternative heat idea? The Mr. Heater Buddy thing? I'm from up northeast and really hate poisonous creatures from the venomous snakes to poisonous dangerous bugs. Even non-poisonous snakes disgust me. I hope to visit down south this summer or fall with my travel trailer and boondock and stay at campgrounds. We love to swim, trail run, hike, fish and kayak. Will I wake up and find a rattlesnake coiled up under my RV somewhere like in the fold out steps? How often does one encounter these deadly critters? Maybe you could do a video on this topic. Thanks Rusty and all the best with your RVs.

I know you don't want all the fluff, and I agree. But If it were me, I would at least shoot an offer of $17k for that 17'er if the models are that close in price. For resale value alone, having a more loaded model would be worth it, plus all the little creature comforts and benefits the Deluxe/Independance offer. Plus I see from the video it has $500+ in owner upgrades. The extra weight of the AC and awning is really a non-issue with a half ton truck. The only downside I see is loss of a few inches of interior height. I have been in a scamp in 95 degree blazing sun, and was not comfortable or a place you would want to spend anytime. Biggest benefit, you can start camping now!

Thank you for the interesting videos.
Could you give some differences in the interior quality finishes between the Casita and Scamp. Are they built differently?
I think the higher interior would be better for you.
Why does the 16' Casita come in a lower height?

hey rusty I love your videos thanks for giving the price of the scamp their website doesn't show prices. I'm going to get the scamp basic model with toilet shower. i want to add the heater. i dont see a reason for the air conditioning. I'm wondering how much solar and battery it would take to power the fridge

Consider the used 2017 its available now and really it sounds like the guy thats selling it really wants you to have it..maybe make payments until the debt is a manageable loan amount? It doesnt sound like the owner is needy for cash and probably just wants it out of sight because of disappointments (as we old folk tend to do) Youre in Texas, you good Ol boys can do alot with just a handshake. Dont worry about the features on the used 2017 that you dont want or need consider those money in the bank when you go to sell down the road. Also, have you asked your son if he would mind you selling your Jayco instead of him picking it up? Used 2013 Jayco Bunkhouse models are running about 14k with the options you have even if it needs a few repairs and updates. Just my 6 cents worth...

You should move to Amsterdam and live on a long boat on a canal.

LOL ... not sure but there are some great videos on here about people that live in their long boats on the canals. Really interesting. You'll see in the videos how narrow the boats are because of how narrow the canals are but they will be 60 foot or longer.

Very entertaining! I know you want a lightweight unit but, we bought a Summerland Springdale mini 19 foot trailer.....not fiberglass....for $10,800 before taxes and fees. We pull it with a Chevy truck same size as yours. Seems like if money is an issue you could do a lot better with a different unit.

The 17' Casita has an interior height of 6' - 1-1/2".
