I was a huge fan of the OG Tron movie, was definitely a huge fan of Tron Legacy and this series just gave me more insight into the world of Tron and the Grid. I haven't finished it yet, but definitely a worthwhile series to watch through. Slow burn can be good when there is a worthy payoff.
I remain disappointed that it hasn't had a DVD or Blu-ray release yet (not even bootleg, AFAIK). I was fortunate enough to catch this when it was available on On-Demand, so I have the fond memories, but this needs a physical release.
I really enjoyed it. I saw it as a Batman Beyond story set in the world of Tron with the old hero passing on their mantle to the next generation. And I'm also a proponent of the theory that Tron killed Beck as the show is set before the TRON Legacy movie and in the movie theirs only one Tron, clearly the original, and he's under the control of CLU wielding two disks and by we see that by the end of season one of Uprising that CLU is coming and there are still two Trons' each with one disk. When I first saw the show I thought that the original Tron was going to turn when he submitted himself to be repurposed in the last episode and at the end of it I thought that that's where the story would go in the second season with Beck having failed to save Tron and he had actually been repurposed.
"DISNEYCEMBER 2020 blog day 20" brings in "Tron uprising" the cartoon series only lasted only 1 season & liked the "Tron movies" the cartoon long story short not so much so I'll sit this one out
Please do another Disney show called Yin Yang Yo! You can also review other Jetix shows if you like.
Fun fact: Bruce Boxleitner not only came back for Tron: Legacy and Uprising, he also voiced Tron in Kingdom Hearts 2.
Olivia Wilde returned in 1 episode as the voice of Quorra.
*Because he always fight for the users.*
He voices Tron in everything
Liam Neeson also voiced Qui-Gonn in Clone Wars.
@count dooku
Who the fuck is talking about Clone Wars? We talking about Tron sucka!
This show getting cancelled after that awesome last scene is a true crime to animation.
It’s never been formally cancelled, Disney just stopped putting out any news.
@@jbcatz5 it's been 7 years since the last episode aired, so in a sense it's cancelled
if it weren't the case, then the show would have continued to this day
Martin De-Serres More like Disney couldn’t be bothered saying anything, not even a cancellation notice.
@@jbcatz5 well the fact that both ratings were very low during its run AND the constant broadcast day switching are clear factors that lead to the show's cancellation
Disney didn't need to officially confirm it, just look at the former 2 stats to put 2 and 2 together
Martin De-Serres It’s a classic case of screwed by the network. Make it hard for people to watch in a way the ratings record and claim low ratings as an excuse not to continue. There’s not even a home media release, only Disney+ and that doesn’t have the pilot episode.
Doug- For a supposed kids show there is a high ass death count in this

"It might be a slow burn, but it delivers one hell of a beautiful fire" might be the best way to describe TRON Uprising.
Also love Joseph Trapanese's score.
On the twentieth Disneycember, my critic gave to me:
Twenty cool characters
Nineteen zombies dancing
Eighteen warriors battling
Seventeen pet actors
Sixteen speaking roles
Fifteen experiments
Fourteen Aliens singing
Thirteen X-Men films
Twelve Narration scenes
Eleven mice-a-squeaking
Ten wacky stories
Nine cliched genres
Eight X-men fighting
Seven on IMDB
Six Flynn-Fletchers
FIVE BLAND NEW PLANETS!
Four magic elves
Three wasted hours
Two best buds
And a pigeon in a pear tree
AYEEEEE there u are!
Correction: Twenty Badass Characters
THERE HE IS!! there's the guy I was looking for!!!
what a legend. thx.
Guess the line game:
Friend One: Twenty epic moments
Friend Two: Twenty light cycles

-Dyson: "Tron!? No! It is not possible! I watched you die!"
-Tron: "You watched me die? I'll watch YOU die!"

"Rumors of my deresolution have been greatly exaggerated."
I like that they included the Tron world in the kingdom hearts games :)
Whoa
Since Tron was in Kingdom Hearts 2 and Legacy was in Dream Drop Distance, it would be cool to see Uprising in the next Kingdom Hearts game.
@@makotoplush9776 Tron uprising is a prequel to Tron legacy
Hope tron is okay
I loved that too
Alberto Mielgo, who worked as Art Director on Tron: Uprising, was also a director for Love, Death and Robots. He won Emmys for his work on both shows. He also worked on Into the Spider-Verse.
Robert valley also had significant sway on the art of tron uprising and the LDR episode Zima blue
I loved Tron Uprising and was shocked when it was cancelled. GIVE ME MY SECOND SEASON! AND A THIRD WHILE YOU’RE AT IT!
Just give us anything
They have to write out the 2nd in command now...
Uprising takes place between the original and Legacy. By Legacy, Tron has been repurposed and now works for Clu as Rinzler, Beck is nowhere to be seen or even mentioned of, which heavily implies (if not out right proves) that the uprising failed, and Beck (and probably the rest of the cast) was most likely derezzed. Now, I’m sure if the series continued the writers probably had a clever back door to explain this, but since the series was cancelled, the horrifying implication is all fans have to go on until Disney continues the franchise. Maybe in the third movie?
Maybe Beck was Rinzler the whole time in his Tron disguise?
@DuelaDent -52- interesting thought and would explain why we never saw the face...
@@DuelaDent52 I like that theory.
@Rough Collies Rock I like that theory too.
@Rough Collies Rock There was a mockumentary for one of the Tron movies?

A shame that this got canned after one season wish it can continue but it was during the death of action cartoons so the timing was awful 😞

Disney XD plays it on weekends and it's on Disney +. There's even a rumor that there are unaired episodes of season 2 that might be on Disney + someday.
I loved this show. It's just crushing that they didnt let it run.
It was in a bad time
this animation technique called Cel-shading, and I freakin love it. It should be used a lot more often.
I don't think you're right. Cell shading is the general technique when you try to make 3d to pass as 2d. This neon oversaturated look is something else.
It really does look like cel-shading, but I'm more familiar with 2D animation than I am with 3D. Could easily be an variation where they just upped the contrast, but I'm not entirely sure.
It really reminds me of the Boarderlands games, but with neon lights and without the texture shading.
Whatever it is, it's a striking and unique looking art style.
This and Motorcity were the most slickest and stylistic cartoon Disney has ever distributed (mainly thanks to Robert Valley) , it's a damn shame that the company would just can them like that .
Did the Zima Blue short in Love, Death, and Robots too!
If you liked Motorcity, you will LOVE the movie Red Line, it's so, SO good
@@AlexLikesToons Thats my favorite episode from that series. I am excited for season 2 too.
Fuck modern Disney!!
I heard from Rebel Taxi that they got canned cause Disney bought Star Wars at the time.
It’s a crime this show only lasted one season. I loved Tron legacy, and I really got into this show. Damn shame it never got a chance.
Tron Uprising was on the wrong network, Disney XD didn’t care much about this show. And most of us, didn’t have Disney XD when it came out.
Disney XD has had so many great shows and it's heartbreaking that some if not most people haven't heard of them. It's even more frustrating that there are some Disney XD shows that Disney+ won't include.
Not only that, this show premiered around the time Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Disney of course then thought, "Why push our own sci-fi franchise when we now own the biggest sci-fi franchise of all time?" Thus, all future plans involving Tron were shelved, making Tron a dormant franchise once again.
@@AJ-xc4qe it because Disney XD is a cable channel that’s only available on certain packages. Even my friends who still have cable don’t get Disney XD due to high costs. Lot of shows on XD aren’t all available to Disney+ due to some shows Disney no longer has the rights to.
@@Xevnar Tron is such an underrated IP, they only scratched the surface with Tron. While Star Wars has already been milked like crazy, that Disney’s buyout of Lucasfilm actually hurt the sci-fi genre.
@@Markimark151 Yeah, that's what's even more tragic about all this. Force Awakens might not have been exactly perfect, but it did at least set the stage for an entertaining new cinematic story arc... but of course Rian Johnson had to come in and intentionally derail those foundations in the name of "subverting expectations" Despite some diamonds in the rough, such as Rogue One and Mandalorian, Disney's Star Wars sadly made Modern Tron's demise in vain.
This show, Motorcity, and Slugterra were some of my favorite shows during early Disney XD
Slugterra and this were the shit
@@thegoldavenger.3829 Yeah they were
there was even that one with the robot where they were all delivery kids and one of em found a robot that would get more powerful with each of its parts they found
@@neon5162 I Remember That Show. It's called Get Ed
There was also Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 (not as good, but still worth an honorary mention IMO)
This show introduced me to this franchise and it will be just one in a million shows that deserved so much more from Disney.
The second half of the show probably changed dramatically because the show knew it was ending. The show probably underperformed in it’s first half. So Disney pulled the plug, which meant they didn’t care what the show did for the remaining half that was already green lit. So the show runners did whatever they wanted. That’d be my guess anyway.
That would explain everything, except the cliffhanger. I feel that if they knew the show would get the plug they would've repurposed TRON and have him become Rinzler permanently.
@@9999AWC many shows ramp things up after finding out they’re getting canceled. Sometimes it’s like OP said and they just go wild, often they realize they don’t need to save plot twists for a later season so they jam as many ideas as they were saving into the final episodes. But they also often end in cliffhangers, this is a desperate play to get the cancellation reversed or possibly get another studio/ Disney manager interested in pursuing the project.
It was expensive to make and made poor returns. Simple really. Shame though because all that worked paid off. The show was interesting and visually striking.
Soundtrack was pretty good as well. It wasn't made by Daft Punk but it emulated that same style from Tron: Legacy pretty well.
"Don't end the Disneycember before it has a chance to start."

Thats kinda like saying that the the animated series of Batman Is much better than the Tim burtons movies when one can't exist without the other, i mean sure we are saying the same with shows like clone wars by saying they are better put together than the prequels, but even then we can't ignore one without praising the ambition of the other despite it flaws. Plus the Tron movies have More creativity and ambition than anything in the prequels that deserve to be explore More. Plus, from that plus, it dosn't rely on nostalgia fanservise to be good.
Finally! Recognition for one of the most beautifully animated and fleshed out spin-off show. My brother and I love both Tron movies, but he is absolutely in love with this show. He praises the hell out of it. Back when Tron Legacy came out, my brother made the disks each program has and we would have disk battles. They hurt as hell but we had fun. When this show came out, however, we were in our late teens and my brother got into graphic novel art. He's actually a very talented artist. So of course, for months during and after the run of the show, my brother had drawn by memory every one of the characters and their world in his notepad. They are gorgeous. I couldn't draw anything like that. When the show ended and there was no news of a continuation, it bummed out my brother hard. Hopefully now with Disney Plus being available, the cult following will grow and we will have many more amazing stories to follow.
Here's why the slow first half doesnt bug me. Usually when a story starts off slow and formulaic, it tends to have a bigger impact when the story takes a dark turn.
"The Disneycember will spread throughout the CZcams grid when other programs learn the truth. Doug Lives."
Im here waiting for the guy singing 12 days of christmas using lyrics related to Disneycember
I am STILL heartbroken this never got to finish it’s story
The characters in this show are 80% legs
In that respect, I kinda get Code Geass vibes.
Is it wrong to think of Tron is “Disney’s Star Wars?” Mind you we know what Disney’s Star Wars is, but it does feel as though the World of Tron is always ripe for spin offs or exploration and yet... it does feel like it can be overwhelming every time we dive into it. Whether if it was the show, spin-off, or even the time spent in Kingdom Hearts (considering how it plays such a big role apparently in the story).
It does make me wonder if in the future, they could try and approach Tron once more in the future and explore it kind of like how they have with Star Wars. Try and make it into its own grand world. The show certainly did that and it does feel like they could try it again if the time and resources are thrown at it to make it happen.
the mandilorian makes me feel like we are potentially getting a live action Tron show, and if so I'm all for it. Especially if they stick with the legacy-uprising art style and music (they are different in places, but they are still very clearly tron to me, especially compared to the original)
Pretty sure it was created to compete with star wars and disney lost interest in it because they got star wars
It was, the universe had a similar depth but sadly it never took of so they dumped it. Still love it and a new movie is in the works so looking forward to that.
@Rough Collies Rock the universe, while not a huge success financially, seems to have a ton of fans just because of the remake movie. I think disney realizes this, and will try and use that to pull in new viewers instead of letting that IP rot more
@@soapbiter36577 Yeah, Disney created Tron to compete with Star Wars, but then Disney bought Star Wars they didn't give a shit about Tron anymore.

I really enjoyed this cartoon when it came out it is a genuine shame that this never got a physical copy release.
The animation reminds me of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Alberto Mielgo who worked as a character artist in Spiderverse did the backgrounds for this show.
@@matheusluciano9498 Didn't know that. Good information
Other way around ;)
Beside the visuals that were amazing, the sound design, the mixing and the soundtrack are one of the best I ever saw in a television show.
This series was supposed to get more seasons but Disney pulled the plug rushing the second half and I believe that is why it got good, Disney unintentionally made a slow series into a hit because they were going to do more but they didn't see the numbers of popularity at the time... I believe that this series could see a Reboot. I hope it does
I'm disappointed this never got a Season 2 it had so much damn potential it kind of reminded me of Batman Beyond.
God I hope this comes back for another season. Maybe if Tron 3, which is being made, is successful enough.
We NEED Season 2 of Uprising. Tron needs more love in general, honestly.
Just you guys wait till he gets to Clone Wars. That. That "Kids Show" has the highest freaking death count to any series I've ever seen!
It's an slow burn. An Serious Slow Burn. But when it starts getting to the darker more twisted moments I dare not spoil. OMG.
This show needs more seasons on Disney +
One of a few great underrated animated shows (Sonic the Hedgehog, Galaxy High, Pokémon Chronicles, Green Lantern, The Spectacular Spider Man & Catscratch) that got cancelled/ended way too soon.
Underrated honestly
I remember staying up till midnight to watch this! Disney didn’t care for it so they stuck it in one of the worst time slots possible and it still got its audience! Such a shame it didn’t get a second season!
For me I decided watch it on Xfinity On Demand. People were watching it more on there than at the time slots.
I remember giving Tron Legacy a "it was okay, cool FX" review back in 2010. And I recall watching the cartoon and thinking kind of the same thing. Would still love a third Tron movie that nails it. Of course, I've said that about a dozen franchises and usually regret that they didn't leave well enough alone.
I used to love this show when I was younger. The character of Cyrus especially was just so creepy and interesting. And he's voiced by Aaron Paul (Jesse and Todd)!
I love Tron Uprising so much. I definitely the style alone sets it apart from many others and I think the action/choreography and shots of scenery are quite amazing. I don't think I've ever seen anything that has touched upon anything similar to the style. I still wish there was more episodes!!
This show REALLY needed a second season!
God this show was so good! It broke my heart when learned it wasn't getting another season.
Another big turning point for the show is the introduction of Cyrus, visually amazing yet distinct, opens up a lot of lore and has significant impact on events.
Tron is a beautiful yet terribly underrated series. Rest In Peace Tron 3...
Fun fact: This show's art style was from Alberto Mielgo, the original art director for Into the Spider-Verse.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart critic. I fell in love with tron when Legacy came out. Everything form the striking visuals to the pulsing score. So when Uprising was announced I was hyped. I was also equally bummed out when it wasn’t renewed for a second season. Thank you for covering this show. It holds a special place near and dear to my heart. Thank you critic 😊👍🏻
I will never get over the fact that this show got cancelled it was amazing and I would literally wake up at 3 on Monday mornings just to watch the new episodes
The thing I notice about some of the best cartoons is that they usually try to ease you in before things get amazing. The first parts of the Show are about easing you in a setting expectations before subverting expectations.
If only this got a season two☺️
This show was sweet. Great action and some very stylistic and beautiful visuals. It even had some big voice talent behind it.
The show was designed by Robert Valley. His look has been in many amazing places. I keep meaning to watch this show as I'm a fan of his
It really is sad how Disney is letting the Tron franchise fall apart. But what else is new with Disney these days?
Tron was created to compete with Star Wars. Now Disney owns Star Wars. They don’t think they need Tron anymore.

I freaking love this show. I'm glad it's still getting some attention.
If anyone's curious, the name of the Artist is Robert Valley. He did animation work for several Gorillaz music videos, the opening and ending animation of Beatles Rock Band, he did all the character designs for Tron Uprising and also contributed on Motorcity as well as animated Zima Blue in Love, Death & Robots.
Thanks for doing Uprising. I loved this show when it aired, knew few who saw it, and was so disappointed when it didn't come back. Glad you liked it too
The fact this show was cancelled is one of the many reasons why I despise Disney with a passion
Hell, it wasn’t even cancelled. It just stopped and it’s a real shame cause frankly, I feel like investing in more Tron media instead of Star Wars and live-action slaughter houses could actually be a beneficial move if Disney played there cards properly.
I appreciate you touching on the death count because yo, the way Dyson ices that guard when reporting to Clu still stands as one of the coldest things I've seen on tv let alone animation.
YEEEESSSS I've been waiting for this. Thank you, I kinda saw this show as Batman Beyond but in the World of Tron they're by no means the same, but it does have an old mentor having to pass on their mantle to a younger generation and both were cancelled way too soon.
You're right Tron Uprising was ahead of it's time. And while we may never get that season 2 season 1 is still a good time capsule of what was.
I remember watching this show back in the day. Can't believe I forgot about it, though the notification brought a lot of it back to mind.
3:31 - 3:55 Another movie I recommend you see with this animation style, Doug, is 2011's Redline. I just saw it before the New Year, and my God, I was blown away, and can't believe it took me 12 years to check it out.
The visuals are so good that all i have as desktop backgrounds are backgrounds of Argon city, Tron City and random concept arts for enviroments in Legacy, Evolution and Uprising.
Man as a huge TRON fan this show is really something else, yeah is a pretty slow burn and takes its sweet ass time to get to the good stuff, but when it drops, it drops *HARD* and fast, is like every episode you are at the edge of your chair just trying to get as much as possible of the episode because you know things are going to happend and happend in a grand way.
Whenever a character dies, whenever Beck thinks he has the upper hand something happends that changes that mentality, Beck its not just your typical hero of the week protagonist, he is deep into something else that's bigger than him and i think that's why you see more of a slow progress in the first half of the season than the rest of it, they are trying to stablish how big, treatening and impossing that world is, and how hopelessly small and powerless Beck feels about everything surrounding him, they show his day to day life and how a single stuff affects this forever and slowly you can see him being more and more sorry for getting into this crazy idea of him making things "right" because Beck at first was fueled by the unfair death of his friend Bodie, but then surprizingly you see Beck trying to backing out at every moment whenever things gets out of hand and TRON "laser" focused on starting the revolution and dethroning CLU 2.0 but cleverly enough the show doesnt quite wants you to know all the full details of why TRON is so focused on doing that whenever that implies if he has to do it alone or with the help of Beck, because TRON knows if he tells Beck all the truth behind his "obsession" he might just desert him and he has to do it all alone, this conflict and secretcy is what makes TRON Uprising so exciting to watch because the show activedly hides things from both the characters and the viewer, making you wanting to unveil things alongside Beck.
Alongside the visuals this show its too good for Disney let alone for Disney XD, and its a shame that because idiocy of Disney execs of not knowing how to market this show properly or giving a more reasonable access to it or letting this show on a fixed time schedule and not doing the old thing of "rabbit jumping" the show from time frame to time frame made this show being canned because "low ratings" that Disney blame it more on "it doesnt sell enough merchandising" to "we are the idiots that didnt let a show to have a chance before blaming it on it doesnt sell enough toys"
I perked up big time when I saw a clip of this in the Disneycember 2020 preview.
Funny enough, the lead artist behind the show also did Tone Blue. His name is Robert Valley and has this style all over his stuff. He even did the designs for another Disney show at the time, Motorcity.
Holy cow Elijah Wood is in this?! I have fallen in love with his voice acting ever since Over the Garden Wall! I totally got to see this! Additionally, the artwork and character designs are absolutely stunning! I'm sick to death of the recycled character designs that Disney has so I'm definitely going to check this out!
The cast is A+ movie and television talent
Doug, the artist behind this and the shorts you mentioned is a guy called Robert Valley. This is his personal style.
If you enjoyed this, next Disneycember you should definitely watch the Disney XD series Motorcity, another "one season" Disney action cartoon from the same artist.

The style of this show is the style animator Robert Valley. He also was the animator for Zima Blue.
For anyone who didn't already know, Robert Valley, the character designer, was greatly influenced by Peter Chung when he worked on Æon Flux in the early 1990s.
Now I have a new show to check out after the holidays.
I could be wrong but this style of animation is called cell shading. It's used to make 3D look hand drawn. Okami used it to great effect, Star wars Resistance used too, Abzu and Journey used it.
I like that nostalgia critique actually likes this and isn't getting mad at jokes that go over his head. Good job
I sat through the Tron movies.
I was entranced through Tron Uprising.
I remember watching this show on Disney XD and Netflix, and I absolutely ADORED this show for taking so many chances. But one of the things that helped it stand out for me, in a morbid sense, was the death count. That, along with its sense of govenment corruption, actually resulted what I feel was some of the grizzliest moments I've ever seen from anything under the DIsney umbrella. One particular moment I remember well from the show was one scene where two friends are walking on 'derezzed' particles, resulting in this banter:
Friend: Moog, what are are we walking on?
Moog: I think you mean, WHO are we walking on?
A FAMILY show!
Yo i loved this series. I actaully rewarched the hole series. Wish they make a season 2.
My favorite moment in the show would have to be this:

It was pretty great!
I remember this show was EVERYWHERE a few years back, but I don’t remember anyone I know watching it. Maybe I’ll give it a watch
