    I tried this plugin, and while it sounds pleasant, the higher keys sound synthetic, and not Rhodes-like at all. I do like their V-Rack effects plugin though, and will be using that with AcousticSamples V-Tines Mk I, which is a superior Rhodes plugin, IMO. As is Keyscape as well.

    • @TheChrisVella
      @TheChrisVella  Před 8 měsíci

      I haven’t tried the V-Tines plugin, I’ll have to check it out! But the Rhodes fx are definitely sick! You can always tweak the sound on the Rhodes per key which I find quite convenient, might get the sound slightly more tasteful to your ears.

    Just signed up for the 14 day trial of the V8...it's good...better than my Arturia from 2016. I'm trying to figure out just how much better....

      Yeah I definitely rate it! Personally I prefer it to the Arturia, but its all personal preference really.

    Sooner or later everyone who loves the Rhodes sound wants a real one, even if plugins are these days very good and easy to use (and weight a lot less ...). And even with the real instruments: No matter how good the new ones are, everyone wants a vintage Mark 1 or 2. Just for authenticity. It's like inventing a "new and better" minimoog.
    BTW: At least when it comes to seating height, your chair seems to be a Glenn Gould's kitchen chair-plugin ;)
    Great playing, btw!

    • @TheChrisVella
      @TheChrisVella  Před rokem +1

      Agreed man! Would love a real one in the room, but plugins will have to suffice for now! And regarding the table height defiantly something I'd like to sort out but it is what it is until I get a larger room haha. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for checking out the video :)

      Sadly the misuse of a hype always tend to make the whole market and so the original love to it absurd sooner or later. Over 3 or 4000 here in Europe for an old one where many things need to be fixed is rediculus. Regret it! Those who sell them have them baught for less then the half. I remember I bought my first on in the early 90s and it was about 700. I think this was one of the reasons Rhodes finally wanted to answer on the obvious needs on the market and I am pretty sure that the V8 if often played for many years will get that chabby sound the original got from its use over the decades. But I seriously doubt that they can hold that price. Hypes also tend to forget to put theirself into relation. Just remember: The original Rhodes wanted to become a affordable "mobil" playable piano like organ back in the days. What it becomes over the "retro" market effect is something completely different. And you can get already a small grand for the price of an V8. So I think the whole thing is going silly. Even if I want to I will regret to buy one for 9000-10000. Sorry that's not a real answer to the market issue and to the love of the sound and to the musicians they play it. That's establishment behaviour so that the "put a name in here" celeb musician can show off to have one.

      @@milocero 👍👍I wish you that you get one, one day! But please don't feed the private resale Rip-off and dumping traders who feed the hype. An old used Rhodes shouldn't cost more than 1000. The private market got insane, and that's not fair since some of them who owned it for longer have bought it maybe in the 1990s from a private reseller far far under 1000. As I wrote already somewhere else, you need to be aware of that an old Rhodes needs many repair and care. Many of the old ones have been misused or badly cared or put on a bad place for longer (damp attic or musty rehearsal cellar) and many damage isn't visible even for the experienced eye under the plates.

  • @alextirrellRI

    I like the Rhodes ones a lot, especially compared to the alternatives, which all had some affectations that took out some of the realism for me. (They all sounded very heightened compared to my 74 Mark 1 Stage)
    Granted every single Rhodes sounds different and can be voiced differently, and of course the Rhodes plugin is based on their new piano compared to a vintage one.

  • @adamandlorraine
    @adamandlorraine Před rokem +1

    I find the Rhodes sound can vary a lot depending on the setup of the tines position in relation to the pickups. The voicing. I think the guy in charge of the New Rhodes, Dan(?) voices them a bit nasal tone for my liking, sort of high-mids boosted. At least in the plugin you can change this voicing. My real Stage Mark II 73 is from 79/80 I think and has a warm bassier tone with a good top sparkle. Every one is different I suppose.

  • @JorgeEgrejasFrancisco

    Thank you for your video, which balances quite well the information it provides and the effective playing you are able to do it with the plugin. Nevertheless, I feel that the comparison between the plugins you mentioned is a little biased and rather superficial, because it really depends on the sounds/presets chosen. E.g. I listened to a lot of better Rhodes sounding from Arturia Stage on their site. Cheers

    I wonder what it is about this plugin that makes every reviewer want to talk talk talk about every little knob, but nobody wants to play it and let us hear what it sounds like? Well, at least he did he did play a "little" bit after all the talking, so thank goodness for that.

    And still the Winner for me is Keyscape and Keyscape has controls to modify the sound to not as many as the New Rhodes. I haven't like the sound of the New Rhodes both the real thing and the plugin. I will say your video the plugin sounds the best of the ones I've heard. My issue with the New Rhodes is I don't think it is very authentic sounding it has it's own very modern sound. I think the New Rhodes is too perfect every aspect and part of the vintage Rhodes sound was everyone was a bit different and then add in years of use loosening things up they each developed their own personality. My fave is an old well used Sparkle Top Rhodes for an example. But that's just me I'm sure there are lots who like the New Rhodes.

    • @nilsunderseer2157
      @nilsunderseer2157 Před rokem +3

      Absolutely the opposite here! I never got the Keyscape to sound like the real old 73 thing. Especially on the barking and smashing from hard tones and the dramatic intense from soft to hard and back. I owned a 73 and tested all plugins ever existed but none came close to the V8 (maybe Scarbee but sadly with less samples layers) from all I do test at the moment. Seems Keyscape was more after the later polished Rhodes sound coming up in the 80s for pop music. But for retro sounding Blues, Funk, Soul and Jazz it sounds too bell-ish and shiny for me.

    • @TheChrisVella
      @TheChrisVella  Před rokem +1

      I'm a big fan of Keyscape personally but I get what you mean, definitely a different flavour of rhodes sound, but I guess if people are looking for that vibe it's available and if it's coming straight from rhodes themselves I imagine it was part of the initiative when they created the plugin.
      Thanks for stopping by guys and happy to see all the different opinions people have!

      @@nilsunderseer2157 With a little tweaking you can get a LOT of grunt and authentic sounds from Keyscape, even more than you can get from V8.

      @nilsunderseer2157 Před rokem

      @@GreNadeMusicNL Not the real bark with overtones of nearby tones or the ringing when 2 notes close are hit hard. No chance. Trust me I own all Rhodes Plugins incl. Keyscape. Already suggested them a sample update for that sound. Don't get me wrong, Keyscape is great for what it is, but it is not close enough for me on a Mark One 73. And to come close to that Scarbee is still the king, after so many years...
