a Kashif production was impossible to perform live in 1983. You'll need tons of synths, expensive Synclavier for backing vocals, a tight drummer and percussionist. Kashif did it live like no other, this is incredible!
Kashif deserves more credit for his production he was one the first too put flying background hook vocals on his music which got revolutionized into R&B inthe 80's and 90's
@@ksfranklin7004 It's what first done by Marvin Gaye or least he did it very good. Listen to Jodeci on Cry for you its the best example how their vocals fly over each other in Harmony it sounds like a powerful swooning flying over each other!
He put some great music out that people don't no about Stone Love , Love changes, Help yourself to my Love, Are the woman...plus producing Whitney Houston, Evelyn Champayne King, Melissa Morgan..this guy was a genius!!!
What a band, incredibly good version, you can see that those were crazy good musicians! Kashif was the best 80's producer, he made awesome songs, the Howard Johnson's album is amazing too, but there were also great guys like D Train, Jimmy Jam Terry Lewis, The Systems and others...
Thanks for posting. Kashif was to me the Thelonius Monk of R&B. He always put a unique sound that could not be duplicated. I always listened for this in his music and it always have kept me hooked on it. He'd throw and extra beat or a distinct off-putting sound that was great. Pure genius!
Im so crushed this Man & His team of players influenced Me a great deal when i was 14 i was in a local band called Radiance in Rochester New York and opened up for Him at Brockport State College , blew my mind He was using a Synclavier to Run samples way before lower end samplers came out . nowadays its regular w protools etc . he was a true pioneer giant Rip Kashif
According to the Video Soul Set and the outfits, I say this was around 1985 or 86 although the song came out in early 83" This live performance is amazing!
This track is ageless. I grooved to it in my own way, just before my teenage years...of course on cassette. I remember my college senior students not allowing us the juniors on the dance floor on social nights. But we always found a way to groove...
what brilliant musicianship they killed it kashif is a genius all they way from his BT EXP days and a good singer i got chills listening to them play live crazy this music sucks today these so called culture vultures could try to imidtate the black experience but they dont come close and not taking away from white musician who play and respect the music
not alison williams, I don't think so, audrey wheeler on left & cindy mizelle on right, bashiri johnson on percussions, ira siegel on guitar, jeff smith (red beret), brian morgan (right on keyboards)... and i guess leslie ming on drums!
Ridiculous pocket on a Simmons drum kit, no less. Some1 mentioned that the drums are actually not live. Even if they are not live, this drummer is playing live on top of a sequence or DAT track; you can clearly hear his cymbals & high hat moving in & around on the song. Cymbals are mic'd. The drum fill @3.41s makes me a believer as well. Back then Simmons SD5 kits were the absolutely truth regardless of genre. There were drummers in this era that would blow your mind playing this exact electronic set. This dude is killer.🙌 There may have been sum backing trax to fatten up the sound but little *wrinkles* indicate it was basically a live performance. @2.08s Kashif looks to his left; sounds like it might've ben a quick keybass note that was off. Still, a killer performance.
I was born in '81. This is the music that will always make me Happy. Kashif, what an amazing producer... Luckily from time to time you can find some music that resembles his style a little, like some Blood Orange stuff or old Chromeo songs. Thanks for sharing!
I met Kashif in LA. He had just written his book on the Music Industry. It is excellent. I interviewed with him but did not get the job selling his book
I live in U.K & i have to say you guys in the US are so lucky, we would never have got to see anything like this back in the day, they were so prejudice to black peoples needs back then and aint much changed.
You guys had some amazing R&B acts out of the UK though. I'm still rocking to Loose Ends, Soul 2 Soul and other acts. I've gotta visit again soon. Stay safe.
ordonize holmes Yup he first started out with BT Express as a kid in the 70's. I attended a party at his penthouse out in California in 2010, man all those gold and platinum discs that lined his wall. RIP Kashif.
+Keith Johnson well the drummer was a machine named synclavier or gated oberheim dmx , by the mid 80s everything was drummachine in musicproduction , it went as far as musicians union complaining on the fact that /real/ drummers were replaced by machines , even hardrockband like def leppard were using fairlight and drummachines on studio recordings, zztop breakthrough eliminator album is all oberheim dmx , no real drummer
+AlainRaes67 if I remember correctly, because I actually watched this segment...Kashif was featured for almost the entire hour and he did get into the technical stuff with the Synclavier...even did some demonstrations
Strange thing is and correct me if I'm wrong. But I always thought that Kashif looked a lot like Lamont from Sanford and son when he was younger lol. Anyone else might have had this thought?
na verdade hoje em 2023 aqui no brasil os músicos , os artistas não tem caixa pra fazer um som desse. eles não feelin pra fazer boas músicas como esse cara ai o kashif. pena que ele morreu.

Ahead of his time, incredible artistry, songwriter and performer. The percussion set on this is unreal as well. Speechless
Yes, yes, yes. Speechless.
I'm having Soul Train in my living room. Get down with the get down.

Loved Kashifs music. Saw him in Detroit in 83. Opened for Chaka Khan. I LOVE Chaka but Kashif did the damn thing!!!!!!
According to the Video Soul Set and the outfits, I say this was around 1985 or 86 although the song came out in early 83" This live performance is amazing!
