It's so funny to make a kong game but also leave the scale of the world normal so he just looks like a regular gorilla
He actually looked fucking tiny to me in some parts. Like a toy. Didn't even look regular sized, just tiny.
@@fivestarguy100looks like a dude in some gorilla suit tbh. like, a strangely small and unimpressive gorilla
@@fivestarguy100 Every time he fights crabs he looks toy sized. In some parts he even looks bug sized.
King Kong? This is Pawn Kong
Amazingly enough, Vinny had less glitches than Joel.
Joel had the game softlock FIVE TIMES due Kong getting stuck midair by JUMPING.
Huh playing enough corruptions must make the glitches afraid of you
Even VinePassive™ didn't bother with this game. That says enough tbh.

It’s very great to see a shovelware revival in the very healthy landscape of games…

this game really makes you feel like a gorilla made it by bashing two stones together. Bravo Kongjima
Rise of Schlong
The fake objectives joke will always be my favourite vinny bit
Fun fact, this is based on joe devito's kong book, which uses the public domain of the novel and is approved by the estate of the og creator, it also has spin off comics which inspired the game, namely gaw.
That Hellboy game was approved by the comic author, and it came out being so much of a turd that the developer extended the review embargo to a week after launch.
@@Code7Unltd miyamoto approved of the notorious mario live action film. that should be an indicator of how much you should care when an IP holder/creator says they approve of a piece of media using their IP. of course they love it, it’s their IP in movies, video games, and more and they likely see it as an expression of love for their creation. good for them ig but that kind of approval being made public is usually a marketing tactic.
@@logandunlap9156Don't compare this to the 97 Mario Bros movie. I rewatched it yesterday, and it honestly holds up pretty good, except for the scene where Bowser tries to seduce Daisy, that should not have been in the movie aimed at kids.
Somebody pointed out they did a really great job of making a 25ft tall king kong feel like playing a regular size silverback gorilla
2023 saw the return of licensed shovelware, God you love to see it. Hoping we get another Monkey Mischief like.
When did it ever go away?
@@johnyamahakeyboard7472 I don't know, but it really felt much less prevalent around after the Wii era or so. Fewer lazy tie-ins for every single popular movie or show or other IP that didn't need a game for it. Maybe because by that point those tie-ins stopped being quite so fast and cheap to make on newer generations of consoles (at least if you don't want them to look embarrassing compared to the average AAA game they would be competing with, much as with this King Kong game here), or maybe studios got burned on those projects enough times to finally realize that shovelware isn't worth the effort and won't give a good return on their investment.
@@TheBruin42 I'd say it was more when acclaim went bankrupt due to the casual audience of the wii and ds dying out due to the amazing sales of the wiiU
@@johnyamahakeyboard7472When it became clear that all the real money for zero effort was in the mobile games market.
@@TheBruin42 The rise of mobile games also undoubtedly played a part. Why bother going through all the effort of developing a full console game when you can just slap some assets together, bog it down with microtransactions and call it a day?
So happy he called it "PS2 level shovelware", because that's exactly what I thought when I first saw this game!
Probably two of the most well known giant monsters are Godzilla and King Kong. Godzilla turned 69 this year, and he's getting a new movie, an Apple TV show, and even a comic book crossover with the Justice League. King Kong turned 90 this year, and this is basically all he got outside of two comics.

This whole game was completely developed by a full team of monke. I just know it!
we all thought infinite chimps on infinite typewriters would give us shakespeare, but we got kong instead
This isn't "Rise of Kong".
This is "Fall of Quality".

A little late to the party sir
Just so you know, the publisher GameMill gave the developers only one year to finish this game and failed to provide enough funding to pay better and more experienced staff. Small dev teams make shitty licensed games because that's all their shitty publishers want them to do, and they keep doing it because they need the money to create actually good games. Apparently this is common practice in the industry. There's an article about this game on The Verge that explains why it's so bad.
This is exactly the kind of game I'd expect a publisher called "GameMill" to publish though
@@Randomlollis Yeah, I don't know why you'd name your company GameMill if you're planning on doing anything other than pump out crappy shovelware. Nothing with the name "X" Mill that isn't an actual mill is anything good.
I don't think we hate on the people who make the games, or at least not Vinny. I think he knows the gravity of what makes shovelwere well how they are.
I mean remember a few years back when he was playing that circus game for the Wii and he was surprised to hear Mike Polks Voice as the Ringleader?
A little into the stream someone mentioned to Vinny Mike posted on Twitter about being made aware of the work he did and Vinny was on Mike's side about how finding work is important and you gotta take what you get.
Just so you know, the developers looked at the budget and didn't even care once they saw how little they were paid so they just kicked back and did nothing 90% of the time and intentionally made it bad as a revenge thing. The levels were entirely AI generated which is why they are full of softlock traps you can;t escape from and bad layouts and no map system.
More money does not equal work ethic, it just enables more lazyness, which you see with college kids all the time. There are game devs that were literally given over a million or more dollars to make a game through crowdfunding and then just, never made it. They disappeared and you never heard from them again. And nobody cared. Wash rinse repeat.
@@Randomlollis gamemill also made big rigs which is regarded as one of the worst games to ever have been made and has an 8/100 on metacritic
my favorite ever stream of this game was when youtuber Jauwn streamed it. he pirated it (openly with zero shame, even showed the crack), got stuck on an area because something broke, speedhacked the game hoping to crash it or break the collision, then deleted all of the files on camera before going on to do something else. great fucking stream, loved it
i gotta see that stream
It's funny to see this called "ps2 shovelware" especially considering the ps2 era "King Kong" game made nearly 20 years ago was phenomenal. The shovelware is jealously trying to bury its father.
The textures are flashing so much that this video probably needs an epilepsy warning
It's like they saw the flying gorilla game and said "ha ha, let's make that but more expensive."
119 minutes played... down to the wire. Loved seeing this live.
This year was full of some of the highest highs and the lowest lows
Reminder, Vinny saw a single cutscene and decided to buy it, and didn’t even get to the cutscene he wanted
You gotta love when you can tell how well a game controlls just by watching gameplay.
this really makes my kong rise
This game and Gollum make me wonder if the whole talk i've seen about the industry "heading to another crash" actually has some truth to it
all Warner Brother properties, very curious
All that talk about a crash are nothing more than sensationalism, the industry is stronger than it ever has been and some random little piss games aren't gonna do anything to change that
@@BIacklce Afaik this isn't even based on the WB property, it's based on some old book version and they're probably banking on people confusing it with the WB property. There's some serious copyright shenanigans going on with this game.
@@YEs69th420 Holy shit, I don't think I've ever seen a more cliché paragraph for what the head of a company says to the board of investors the week before they go bankrupt.
I hadn't even heard about a looming crash but your comment just filled me with dread
@@an_fiachthat's really not how executives talk and they're right. If the gaming market crashes it's because of rising costs of game production, not because 2 bad games came out. But the industry is currently the biggest entertainment industry in the world.
The DKC music fits so well to this game and actually makes me want to play it JUST so I can dub DKC music over the footage.
This feels like a video game King Kong would make
Amazing that graphically this looks around 20 years out of date
Remember Gormless Kong? This is him now.
He had a glow down
Vinny has to check out the 2005 king Kong movie game
Call that game by it's proper title.
2:42 the music playing here is Stilt Village from Donkey Kong Country 3. Took me a while of listening to DKC music trying to find it, but I've discovered how good it is in the process, so I'd consider that time well spent. Also I suggest continuing to listen to that in the background of the rest of this video, after the music stops in-video. That increased my enjoyment by at least 50%.
He is slowly turning into the Angry Video Game Nerd, I was just waiting for him to say "What were they thinking!?"
The difference is that Vinny is funny.
He's already mimics the AVGN several times in the past years, and he did videos with James in his house as a guest appearance.
AVGN was funny up until he made the movie. Once he made the movie his humor dropped off significantly. He started over-rehearsing and scripting his dialogue. He forced the videos into an unnatural state. The reason Vinny is consistently funny is he says the first things he thinks of, and just ad-libs everything. He just speaks how he feels. That's the same reason why early AVGN was good, He was speaking honestly how he felt. Once he started getting more and more famous he became more and more concerned with his image and started scripting stuff heavily. You can't force humor like that. @@genyakozlov1316

i hope gollum-like becomes a new genre of videogames
We never found wife or rode wife that night 😔
Excited for the impending rise of the Gollum-like genre
Like how you can Bearley tell your supposed to be a kaiju sized monster and not a regular ape
i think *barely* is taking it too far. There is absolutely no indication that kong is bigger than usual.
If this was my first intro to King Kong i would probably think he's freakishly small
Kong actually looked really fucking small at some points to me. Like a little kids toy. He didn't even look regular sized, just small.
@@fivestarguy100 looked like one of the plastic action figures you would get at McDonald's as a kid
They actually tried by making human ruins and villages small in comparison to Kong but it doesn't matter because everything in the game makes Kong look like a regular sized gorilla.
this is like baby's 4-5th unity game.
"Your stick ran out of bullets!" might aswell be my favorite Vinesauce quote
This whole video I was filled with dread that Vinny would forget how much time he had and not refund the game, accidentally giving the company 30 very undeserved dollars
Bad games make more money than good games because it provides streamers with something to talk about and say "look how bad this is" which gives the developers 10 times more publicity and gets everyone to play it to see how bad it is, making them 4 times more money over if they made a good game.
When you refund, you get all the money back. However there are fees with digital sales on steam, so the publisher actually loses money with every refund
This looks like an early 3DS game...
every game should be like this i think
So true
agreed
i agree, maybe people wouldn’t spend 120 dollars on the premium edition of every new release if they were all golum-likes
Calling this a Gollum-like is an insult to Gollum, frankly
"We are witnessing a Gollum-level event here, we will have updates as things progress"
And what’s _really_ funny about this? The last licensed Kong game from 2005 is actually really fucking good.
Did anyone else see Peter Jackson's Kong as a younging and get traumatised by the giant insect/worm scene?
i saw that movie as an adult and got traumatized by the giant bugs. i've got a strong stomach when it comes to scares and gore, but that was the most disturbing thing i've ever seen in a movie (second only to the human centipede 2)
Shovelware is back, nature is healing

For those who aren’t aware, this game was developed by GameMill Entertainment, the same guys behind Nickelodeon All Stars Brawl 1 & 2. I’m personally really hyped for NASB2 based on the trailers I’ve seen. So my fingers are crossed that this game is an example of a game developer being given multiple projects to work on at once, and choosing to put all of their resources and talent into one of them, while the other one is completely neglected because they knew hardly anyone would be interested in buying it even if it wasn’t a big sh**load of f***.

shovelware is back baby
I mean, the barrier to entry in game making has been removed. Allowing anyone to sell has made it easier for people to find shovelware who are working for it (this would have published without it) but has also allowed people to get any game in any genre they want with decent quality. I’d take stupid games getting released in exchange for getting to play games that reimagine resident evil.
The sad thing is the reason this is so bad is because the devs were only given less than a year to make it, which is crazy for a full game these days.
The quality isn't even really the devs fault! It's executives who didn't know any better!
