There was a time where 1300cc was the top of the mountain of bike engines where only the Hayabusa dared tread without getting into cruiser territory. Then KTM makes one, puts it in a slim frame and it weighs less than an old R1. Then they decided to make the engine even bigger. I love it when insanity looks this good.
@@russcattell955izx14, and they're a lot lighter than they look, friend of mine has a 2014 and it feels like a big body 1k weight wise.
@@HeyAddieImTojo yup, any sportbike above 373cc is too dangerous, they limit it for track use only
Finally, a starter bike worth recommending in America
After I’m done building my house next year I’ll be trading in my Road Glide for one of these. Still 2 years out basically but I can’t wait. lol
@@My.name.goes.here.That make sense, you will be very glad. ….. probably not the best idea.
Sure is a good thing KTM didn't make this full-fairing, otherwise it might be unsafe
I think there's a more practical reason for that - RSV4 is way more expensive to insure than a Tuono, for example. Can you guess why?
Is this a joke based on a comment they made as to why they ain't doing the fully faired version
@@512460 “But with the increase in safety concerns, I’m afraid bikes like [the RC8] don’t belong on the street, only on a closed course”
Absolutely legend Junior! You made pops proud! 😁🙏
I love both 44 Teeth and LambChops. So this crossover is everything. Cheers from the states.
I dont mind the cursing. Im honestly amazed you can still focus enough to talk while youre riding that beast.
I’m so glad we’re still getting mental bikes like this..
Would love a superbike shootout style test but with a mixture of super bikes and super naked , yes the super bikes will be faster but it will be nice to see how good naked bikes have got
We need to smash this all the way to the Top. Would absolutely love to see this.
From this video it seems these super naked can beat a large part of super bikes. They have insane power and maintain street usability
Makes sense as there is no more gixxers or r1. Replace with this, Tuono and streetfighter
Henceforth I require that all bike tests are scored by the number of times Al says “Fukkinell” in an extremely convincing, I’m about to go through a wall way.
Great to see Choppsy on the vid… would love to see more cross content with ol’ Chops.
Al, this is hands down the best of the 1390 tests out there! I love your onboards and live commentary, this is the kind of video that really gets across what a wonderful hooligan of a bike this is! I also much appreciate getting Jeremy McWilliams' comments! Absolute dream bike! Thank you and the crew for this top-shelf video!
Looks amazing. Sounds amazing. Good to see 'pops' aka Lamb Chops Rides👍👍
Whew! What a review! I'm stoked this bike came out just so we could hear Statham and Chopsie and Jezza discuss the thing. TOP presentation. And on to the bike - there is no doubt KTM have moved the bar right up. The one thing that gives me pause is the discussion that you can feel when the valve timing changes. I had a 2006 Interceptor which was supposed to be buttery smooth when the valve shift happened. Realistically, it wasn't quite. It kicked in at 7k, right about where a lot of street corner exits occur, and I didn't like the abrupt change in the torque right while I was sniffing for traction at corner exit. How much more lairy would it be on something with probably twice the torque of my 800 Interceptor? Fairly, I'd guess. I think I'll keep my EVO for now. The only time it's ever felt "lacking" was when the traction control or wheelie control were busy keeping me rubber side down. An always mental bike just became a bit more mental. Love it!
That torque figure is amazing, when you think its up there with big muscle bike cruisers and adventure bikes let alone the 190bhp
Chops truely is a giant of a man
11:26 - that's not "another downside of the electronic suspension". It's actually an upside... you go out on track, you feel what you don't like then you change the suspension with a few clicks and go out again. You can even stay on the bike and be done with it in a few seconds as opposed to having to manually change it with tools. In what world is that a downside. If you only use the bike on track sure a conventional suspension is better but this is so much quality of life for the every day user. I wouldn't want to miss it on my Tuono Factory, I cruise on the softest setting until I reached the fun roads in my are and then I switch to the stiff track mode within a few seconds. Once I'm done riding spirited I cruise back home on the softest setting. Can't beat that.
I'd even add to the mix that the manual is NOT better than the electronic, because you can reach the exact same settings (given the internals are almost identical) on the electronic in manual mode as the conventional suspension, but with the added benefit of being able to slap Anti-dive and anti-squat on it if you want.
Totally agree. The only downside is if the electronics go haywire. Otherwise its awesome!
Love the combined comments of Choppsy and yourself.Great entertainment.Thks.
As usual a dynamic review here. Nice to see. Chopsy was a sunday ride but 44 teeth is a roller coaster ride!
Right, best I head straight over to Chopsy’s review. Loving the collab lads!! 🙏🏻🙌🏼🙌🏼💪🏼💪🏼🔥🔥❤️
Cracking video. Not a bike for me but I found the video really enjoyable to watch, great having a bit of Choppsy on it too.
Good to see chops and Jason having a blast, drink and chat… keep up the great content guys 👏
Great review thanks. Looks like you all had a great time. The SD is a monumental bike and Ktm are no longer the unreliable bikes they were. Great job.
Had a gen 1 for 3 years and loved it. Seeing this may have persuaded me to have one last hurrah on a big V-Twin agsin before I get too old to cope!
Best video in a while. Loved seeing chops in this one as well. Awesome
Insane bike. Just got to swap the headlight with the previous gen 😉
Loved the bit with LCR at the end too
I had -21 1290sdr drove it 10k miles in 4 months. Most fun i've had on a motorcycle. Full exhaust and akra flash made big difference. Definetely giving this thing a test ride when summer arrives.
Owned a 2017 Gen2 that I did countless trackdays on and watching that makes me want to get another one.
I have the 1290 r and have been a bit worried about tracking it, but I think I will have to this year. I have the akra system, so not sure I am passing any uk dB tests !
The 1290 with race mapping and that pipe is savage - so I can only imagine what the new engine is like
which Akra system? If its the full silencer and not the short little stubby one you'll be fine. @@james5553
I had mine tuned @Trackelectronics in Norwich with ECU Studio. As well as F/A and Ignition he tuned the throttle position maps, that was the game changer, the Track map became a proper track map, inputs were instant to the engine. Turned the Sport map into halfway between the Sport and Track maps. Man that bikes was batty fun. @@james5553
Nice launch video and mental bike🤪. Cool that LCR was there to share some thoughts with. Always happy to see my YT crush on other channels😂
seeing the chatting with pops at the end was gold, glad I stayed until the end.
Great review. A demented beast & that's just Al. An amazing machine & bonkers indeed . Could listen to Jeremy for hours.
I come back after having watched the video. And I liked it. It will be really hard not to jump the gun, now. I almost did it with the incentives on the '23 plates (even though incentives weren't as tempting in France), and I wanted to wait and see what the '24 would bring. I found the increase in price quite steep, and it would be a hard one to justify in any case. But, you'll only live once, as the saying goes, and I could be silly enough to follow the Lamb Chops' path (pretty sure he's sold on the bike, or the other way around). It's kind of funny how much I can relate to both you and your bike-dad. Quite tempted by the Evo, myself (a load of backroads on the menu). Keep on the good work. Just to say, I own a '21 1290 SAS, and I had no problems with it, with the exception of the seat that would drop from high to low during compressions. It has been fixed, albeit after one year of waiting. Incredible engine, though, and spankings for days. Say Hi to the Baron, I can relate to his struggles, I've been there (and yes, motorbikes are of great help).
Than you so much for bringing this state of mind to the masses, or at least keeping it alive.
Love the collab with lambchops, need more of that.
Great vlog Al, luv the whooping and hollering not the too mention the hysterical laughter 😂 The Akra sounds amazing!!
You guys are so fortunate to have these test tracks. We rarely get opportunity in Canada to ride these amazing bikes.
Whopper when Jeremy gets excited it's something else reminds me of being at kirkistown and him on the miller. Yamaha 500 GP bike full straight on the back wheel,,in the 90,s ,, what awesome bikes ☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland great video 👍👍👍
Ah finally the superduke is powerful enough for me to actually consider it as an upgrade from my Honda Ruckus scooter! I just don't think that old 1290 had the chops to be honest
Lovely to see Chopsy Pops keeping an eye on you scallywags
Another awesome vid/review. Keep up the good work Nige!
Great entertainment Al and a very entertaining bike 🍻 Looks like Chopsy's next bike !
Great review! Convinced me to stay on my 3.0.
And the black colour way resembles the 2014 I had! Glad they got rid of the blue on the orange and made it look more how it used to.
I love seeing the banter between 2 of my favourite British reviewers. Go 'Pops'.
I’ve been putting off getting a Super Duke since its first debut in 2014. It’s time to bring one home.
The one we have been waiting for 🔥🔥🔥
Couldn't imagine trying to ride this fast on a track. I got wicked quick on a 600 but never would imagine taking my fz-10 into advanced group on the track. I can't imagine this thing. Great vid.
Great video Jason. You and Chops should do more together, really good combo.
I love big bore V-Twins. I need to test this bike. Thanks for the video. (where is this track?)
I have just bought a gen 1 SDR for trackdays, can’t wait for the season to kick off.!
Not that track bikes have comfortable seats, but enjoy the factory perch... they are HORRENDOUS
@@hamishrhodes5108 I get what you’re saying but through previous injury I can no longer ride a superbike, this allows enough leg room for me to participate and also enough grunt to keep up with my mates.
Check out Superduked - he raced a Gen 1 and 2, his channel has got loads of good info
You talk about preferring the conventional suspension over the electronic suspension because it's more consistent. But can't you just SET the electronic suspension to a particular setting and leave it there, or is it always adjusting/interfering?
RAMPANT! How delightfully OTT this whole bike, and genre, is. Long may it continue!
20:57 That was hilarious referencing being in a Spanish prison if you'd used it on the road 😂
Watching Pops' review next.
Chopsy would make a great addition to the 44 Teeth team!!!!!!
Great seeing Chopsie in a 44Teeth video!
Loving the 44T/LCR collab. Chopsy, you ARE the farther!
Yea I was smacking 2018 duke on track for 3 years. You needed to believe in the chassis cornering as it was not very good tbh. I blown 2 engines as well..
But definitionally this is a bike people should be able to experience once in a live! Loved it
Great vid once again buddy. Love hearing you enjoying a track day. How many cows died to take to make chopys suit 😲🤪👍🏼
Great vid and really nice to see Jeremy and Chopsy. Who was it who crashed?
Cracking review really enjoyed it 👍
If only they made it with RC8 style faring 😒
Holy hell. My old 2008 990 SD has come some ways. Jesus. Love the review.
your interview with LCR was EPIC.. he should be on BBB on something like a CB125 or a Vespa of some sort!
Much respect to KTM to having Jeremy McWilliams a developer and tester of the new Superduke. If you want a wild, fun, animal of a bike to ride there’s no better person to have develop your bike than him. One of the greatest raw talents to ever ride those 500cc Grand Prix 2 strokes. Forza Slide King👑
To answer the question at the start, I have a 1290 GT, I have ridden the 1290 SAS, in the SAS state of tune the engine is rather smooth from down low and the QS works rather well, on the GT/R it's extremely quick and revs out but is very lumpy below 4000 RPM especially in the higher gears, if I could get SAS smoothness but with GT/R performance, I think this is the ticket...
That was excellent chatting with Jeremy McWilliams! As said, he's a legend 👍
Thanks KTM for having this 🎉Love my Gen 1.
Thumbs up from Al and Chopsy? May have to take a closer look at the new Gen!
I love my 1290 gen 3. New it was £13k with 4 yr warranty. Would love a 1390 but not for £6k more. 0 reliability issues either before those people pipe up
Does Amazon sell motorcycle tires with Subscribe & Save?
Love Chops watched him for beastie days and to think Al
tested the bike way back and now they are testing bikes together 😊
Great vid as usual,, but is it worth the 8k to swap from a gen 3😮
I like the new updates won’t be trading in my ZH2 SE for it but would love to have a ride on one.
Way to go AL! Backin' 'er in in 3rd on the shift-light. Bang another shift light in 4th at 180. Where oh Where is another RC8R ? "We can't build one for the street" It is nice to know that my RC390 is good enough fer me.
Does it have the same energy on track as SV4s or M1000R ?
Would you buy it as an only bike or for a track bike? Or something else for track?
That background, sound, and description reminds me of a RC8 1190 I demoed. I wish I had a job at that time so I could have bought it. 😂
Be nice if they gave you a ride on a Moto Gp bike even if a couple of Gen old - it would be an interesting comparison.
I’m still enraptured with my 2020 gen 3, this must a nice update
Great video mate!
Nice intro! Thought Dwight Schrute was on camera for a sec 🤣
How did the new Power GP2's feel?
That headlight is growing on me 😅 was going to swap my gen 3 for streetfighter v4 this year but I'm tempted to get this now 🤤
Both yours and Chops are great reviews of this beast , i can buy a 1290 for $15,000 new now is it really worth 5K more for this model ?
I had a brand new 2018 1290 Super Duke with full Akra exhaust and race tune, but I replaced it with an 2019 Tuono V4 1100 Factory as it was impossible to utilize the power, wheelies everywhere. IMHO the chassis just could not handle the power. I see nothing has changed
You guys are the best motorcycle journalist❤❤❤
Is this a good starter bike? I don’t want to upgrade after 6 months.
Still love my Gen 2 dearly. The LC8 is just a gem in the grand scheme of life. I wonder how much different this Gen 4 feels as compared to the 2.
McWilliams. What a grumpy, savage rider. Thats the best compliment i can give him.
Have KTM addressed the loose tank, radiator cracking/breaking issue starting from the Gen 2 superduke?
I’ve always overlooked KTM, due to old issues, but this video has made me jump to autotrader 😂
Madlads having fun, Pop Chops and Jason Statham. What more could you want?
great to see Lamb Chops on the channel :)
Great video, Pops , Cameo from the godfather AKA the saint and a bonkers bike
Woah haven't seen LCR in a while and man... thought he had an airbag go off in the pits. Makes Fagan look like Kate Moss
I ride my orange bikes (and now Kove 450 Rally) mainly on dirt here in UT. HOW do I get my butt on one of these for a couple of sedate laps before I go to the great BDR in the sky?
Never seen the swearbox filled so quickly 😂
having ridden a tricked out 1290r can only imagine what the kitted out version on the 1390 is like, now they just need to put it in a superbike frame and piss ducati off
Wasn't the Tuono about to get a massive update as well for '24?
Everytime I ride my 1290 I'm sad it'll only power wheelie in the first 4 gears, I'm glad KTM is still improving this anemic powerplant.
@FirstLast-ix7vhyep pretty much.
I’ve had my lift so many times on full chat, 6th gear of tiny bumps in the road.
@FirstLast-ix7vh while i was going full throttle with my 3gen SDR around 200km/h hitting a bump on the Autobahn it went into a whellie, i tell you that was an expierince
@FirstLast-ix7vh nope not at all, well never tried max out first to be honest if you want you can just launch in 2nd gear... there is enough low end power, top speed is around 300km/h but on a naked it is really an adventure to keep this speed. 5 and 6 gear are really long geared.
😂
@FirstLast-ix7vh Gearing is pretty long, in 6th I can ride 110km/h minimum (around 2000rpm), I almost never use 6th gear.
