I’m new to your channel; I think CZcams suggested you, or perhaps another podcaster. However I got here, I am grateful. I love your enthusiasm and your aesthetic! I also appreciate that you are not a complete yarn snob…😂
Ah!!! I really like the fisherman’s wool and especially the natural colorway. Another great well-priced wool option from a box store is Patons classic wool - worsted and the dk. Thanks Taylor!
You cardigan is so adorably cute on you. The shape, the colour, the fit and styled with a simple T-shirt. Thank-you for sharing love of more budget friendly yarns, it’s easy to get stuck in the more $$$ yarn world but the cheaper yarns do have their place.
I absolutely love the Fisherman's Wool! It is the first wool yarn I ever bought. Joann's with a coupon, I bought 5 skeins of the color oatmeal. I'm still working through it. If you need an affordable, good quality, neutral color wool, in bulk, this is it! I hope they never discontinue it because Lion Brand has a tendency to discontinue great yarns.
I also have to give a shout-out to Lion Brand Wool Ease, now in heathered colors. I love my indie yarns but Fisherman's Wool is the shiznit.
WE LOVE HER BUDGET WORK
Everytime I’m in Joann, I look at Fisherman’s Wool, but haven’t purchased it yet. Looking just now, it’s on sale even! That’s probably a sign that I need another sweater quantity of yarn, right?? 😂
Your Felix is beautiful. That color 😊. I am making a Petit knit pattern quite similar to your Frankenstein sweater, her patterns teach so much. The tweed does create a beautiful fabric. I just got a new to me local yarn from o-wool in New Jersey. I am so excited to knit with it as well, so I empathize. I equally enjoy top down and toe up, so will check for a mug. Thanks for another chat!, be well!!
I love Fisherman’s wool as well! Made my first Weekend Sweater with it. It’s a bit more itchy than I’m used to with higher end wools, but it knits up so well, I’ve learned how to layer it to keep that down (and the itch goes away in cold weather!)
Also, I remember working for Joann back in the early 2000s- the skeins were only $6.99! I still have some of them 😂
Just ordered a sweater quantity of the gray yarn from Lovely Valley Yarns. I live in SE Idaho and am so happy to support this local yarn producer, who has their fiber processed in Buffalo, Wyoming, home of Mountain Meadow wool, another great source of lovely yarn! I love your channel and am so glad to learn about this yarn producer!
I just found you and love your podcast so much I’ve gone back and started watching your episodes from the beginning! Thank you for spreading the joy!
I love how your granny square coaster matches your mug.
Thank you! I didn't even notice! So cute.
Your fisherman sweater reminds me of the EZ Percentage system. Oh, the color of your Felix is perfect for you! Lovely!
Thank you Sherrie! And yes! Actually it's funny because I was browsing through one of my EZ books and was thinking about why I'm not just using her percentage system?? Great point! Ugh...I just love Elizabeth. She's just got this approach to the craft that is so my jam. ❤️
Loving the yarn used in the sweater. Got my drink lets do it. ❤
So much gorgeous yarn, so little time.
This room looks so cozy and crafty. I need to recreate this vibe
Fisherman's wool knits up so beautifully!!! And the socks out of it last forever
Ooo great to know about the socks Deb! Thank you!
My first sweater I am using the same fisherman yarn
I love your cardigan! I love knit sweaters; however, being left-handed, I seem to struggle with knitting unlike crochet. Your enthusiasm inspires me to pick up my needles again and giving it a go as there is something so beautiful about knit. Thank you so much!
I love Lionbrand fishermans wool. I've made some boot socks and a ribbed hat for my husband and it was really nice to work with.
Good morning! I just found your channel recently. I am really enjoying your program! Sending you all the good vibes!
Thank you George!
This was the push I needed to pick up my sleeve stitches and finish my Felix!
I’m going to try Fishermen’s wool!
Great! Let me know what you think! ❤️
I love lion brand fisherman's wool. I've made the Orom slippers by Ysolda Teague and they are absolutely awesome.
Oooo I need to look into those. I love slippers and Ysolda had such lovely designs. Thank you!
I just added a sweater to my queue to be knit with fishermen's wool 🥰
I just ordered three skeins of Fishermen’s wool in the oatmeal color to make the Dickson skirt by Norah Gaughan. Thank you for highlighting an affordable “rustic” yarn option.
I also love Lion Brand’s Fishermen’s Wool. I’ve mostly crocheted blankets with it and a pair of boot cuffs and market bags. It’s just such a lovely wool at a great price. Your photos of all the Felix knits did inspire me to cast one on.............. ahhhhhhhh 🌸
I just discovered your channel today and sure enjoyed it. A few years ago I had the pleasure of touring Mountain Meadow Wool Mill and purchased lots of their beautiful yarn. I even purchased a kit recently. Thanks for a most enjoyable podcast!
Just found your channel! Very lovely cozy feeling you have in your chats. I’m new to knitting and very much appreciate you mentioning Lion Brand yarn especially for a beginner. I look forward to more of your videos. Hope you have a beautiful day 😊
Ohmygoodness, that raglan CO is going to be gorgeous!!! And I love your cardigan- so many projects to which I can aspire!😍
i dont even knit, i just dipped my toe into it, I'm a crocheter but I LOVE your podcast. you and some other CZcamsrs inspired me to knit, so thanks for that :) I also appreciate you talking about this yarn. I've only worked with acrylic and polyester, so I picked up some firsherman's wool and ill be crocheting my first sweater with it. once I finish this then I'll try to knit something small with it :)
That's so funny, I just finished up a project in fisherman's wool! It's a plastic bag holder for my boss lol. It's so simplistically beautiful, definitely a go-to for gifts that won't need to be washed a lot.
Ooooo yes! What a great project...but I'm chuckling a little bit that you made one for your boss. Must be a good boss. 😉❤️
Thank you for watching Cara!
This is so fun to find you!! I love watching you share your passion. I live in Reno, my Grandfather was a wool grower in eastern Nevada. I can't wait to get my hands on some of that wonderful Nevada wool ( Lovely Valley Wool). I going to make something for my mom who grew up on that ranch. She is going to love it so much. I have wonderful childhood memories; visiting the ranch, and watching the Basque sheepherders shearing the sheep and the cute spring lambs. 🐑♥
I am a teacher and the secretary of our PTSA. You are a hero for chairing the fundraising committee on your PTO. Please keep doing it!
Thank you Kathleen. I was a 4th grade teacher for eight years before having my oldest and I can say with the utmost confidence that YOU are a hero as well for taking on that extra job. ❤️❤️
I knit my first cable knit sweater in that same Lion Brand's Fisherman's Wool! I absolutely loved it and am planning on doing Petite Knits Moby Sweater in one of the other colorways.
In one of your videos you talked a little bit about some project bags. Can you please tell me what they were?
Hello new yo your channel I’m local to you in Las Vegas. Nice to see more Nevadans knitting 🧶
Hi Crystal!! Thank you for commenting. I LOVE meeting viewers that are local. ❤️❤️
I recently found your channel and really really enjoy you and your content. Now I have lots to back binge watch while knitting (mostly socks). See you again soon!
Totally going to give the fisherman’s wool a go!!! Aldo, I used to drive thru Winnemuca NV on my way home from college! Will check them out too b
I think you’ll love it Margaret. Keep me posted when you try it. And Winnemucca is a pretty small ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ farming/ranch town but we love it up there. Thank you for watching!
Ooh I used Fisherman’s wool for my very first knit! I made Bella’s mittens (lol, from twilight) I love that yarn, so much value ☺️
Thank you for telling us about that NV local yarn shop! That’s so cool, I’m definitely gonna check them out.
Just ordered my yarn for the Felix pullover so I can be a part of the knit-a-long 😂 super late, but it’s better than never! I’m just hoping that lettlopi yarn won’t be too scratchy or too hot for me to wear 😬
I appreciate your honesty about techniques and rethinking your socks. I struggle with trying new techniques and I'm glad that I'm not the only one who retries when I think I've misinterpreted instructions. Be happy learning! Life and knitting aren't perfect!
I casted on a cardigan in the fishermen’s wool after you mentioned it last time! The pattern is the campsite waffle cardigan by two of wands, and I’m using the birch tweed!! It has inset pockets, and I’m planning on using a bright lemony yellow for the inside pocket panels. I’m super excited cause it’s such a pretty yarn. It’s so hearty and the stitch definition is awesome. Thanks for all the recommendations you give 💛
New subscriber! Love your enthusiasm and your style of presenting. I would love to learn how to knit a sweater but time is always an issue.
I just finished a scarf in that birch tweed color of fisherman's wool, lol! Worked in garter stitch alternating size fifteen and six size needles, gives it an almost lacy texture. It's my first wool project.
I just recently found your podcast....or more specifically, it found me and I am enjoying it so much! I love your love of yarn and positive attitude. And Yuca in the Fiber for the People shop soon please!🧶
So happy to see someone else love this budget friendly wool! And the algorithm likes you. You just popped up a week or so ago. Yay a great new ( to me) knitting podcast!
Thank you so much for sharing Lovely Valley Wool! I’m from southern NV too (originally, I’m not there anymore but still in the southwest) and my Dad is very proud of being Battle Born! I’m making him a scarf with Reno Rafter for Christmas and will have to check out Lovely Valley next!
Very cool! I actually wasn't aware that Jimmy Beans was using Mountain Meadow to spin their own yarn for this line. Love that! And I too am proud like your dad to be Battle Born 😊 so I was super stoked to find such a cool local yarn. Thanks to you, I now know of another. ❤️
I like toe up,2 at a time socks. I don’t do Kitchener very well 😳
I love you and your enthusiasm the Felix middle long I just now now January 11 and just running about you and wanted me to get my first sweater and I was going to do one
OMG!!! thank you for sharing info on lovely valley wool!!! i WILL be checking them out! my dad and family are from Navarra, Spain. mi abuelo (and dad) was a successful citrus farmer & importer/exporter, but left Spain around 1950/60 due to Franco political uprising and came to the US as a sheepherder in NV (? lol), later settling in San Leandro/Oakland CA, which is where I was born & raised. I had long forgotten my family NV history, and wish I knew more. I'm an avid knitter, and new sub! be well! and thank you again!
Arrggh. Working on Xmas presents but now I NEED a Lion Brand Fisherman Wool sweater! Love your podcast:)
Love, love, love your channel. I’ll be bingeing the rest of your vids too. ❤ Johnna mentioned you, and I value her recommendations. I think Kevin at NATR mentioned you too.
Thank you so much Kim! It always makes me blush fiercely knowing that other folks are mentioning me. So cool. ☺️
Just received my sweater quantity of Lovely Valley Yarn. I got the gray. It is my kind of yarn! So glad to hear about this from your podcast. I love to shop local, and as I live in Idaho, that's local!
Oh I’m so glad Catherine! Enjoy it and thank you for your kind words. ❤️
i have been on those school boards before and they are a heckofa lot of work. best of luck
Love your podcast. Very inspiring and entertaining ♥
Some of my favorite work socks are fisherman’s wool. They’re heavy duty and warm
Im a knitter but i absolutely love thrifting hand knitted pieces made by others.
There's this white yarn with baby blur and baby pink nibs that I want to buy soon and seeing the pull over you're making really inspired me and now I'm super excited to try it out
Oooo this sounds so pretty. What is the yarn called or what is the brand?
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS it's an Egyptian yarn cuz I'm in Egypt, it's called Fulya
I like to dye the Fisherman's wool.
It’s a great yarn for dyeing!
okay FINE you sold me. I'll buy the fisherman's wool 😂 i'm gonna test it out with your gloves and see how I feel with it on my skin. I've passed it over in joann's before because of the rough texture, but boy do i love your raglan and want one now hhahha
I think this is a very good idea Cara. Something small to test the texture is very smart. It definitely has that initial "scratchiness" but as I've been working with it I've really come to love its knit texture. And with wear, I think it will soften even more. Enjoy the Mitts and thank you!
Love Pete the Cat!
Your Felix sweater is looking great!
Thank you Danielle!
I adore good night days! I wear her cardigans as jackets basically 😆
Yes! That makes a lot of sense. Her pieces are great outer layers. ❤
Tayler I LOVE your cardigan!! Does FFTP still make/sell these yarns/colourways?
I also do fundraising for our son's school endeavors (first for the PTA at his elementary school - the Fall Fest silent auction, and now for his middle school band program - eek - I KNOW what you mean - it IS a lot of work. Super fun, but a ton of work nonetheless. I am hoping to retire from my fundraising activities once he starts HS next year.)
I just bought two skeins of the Fishermen's Wool in oatmeal today.. no clue what I'm going to do with them... I'm sure the yarn will tell me at some point what it wants to be LOL!
Have used lion brand fisherman's yarn for years. That skien used to be 9.99 .if I have a pattern where the yarn is going to be expensive . I make a sample knit with the lion brand. Loved the old wool ease made baby stuff ( new moms don't need a separate wash load).
I love cardigans but rarely knit them for myself either! I think many of the cardigan patterns have too high a neck and look too schoolmarm-y. I like cardis with longer lines and an open front (I never button them). I need to find some good patterns! I enjoy working with Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool, but I've found that it does pill. I crocheted an afghan for my hubby with it about 13 years ago, and it's pretty pilly now. More so many of my other projects.
I didn't even finish your intro and am like I don't care about the Felix sweater, I care abut the one you're wearing!!!!! I hope you talk about it and if not I will be scouring your vidz to see if I find it LOL
This was posted at the right time! I am "being Brave" and attempting the Harvest Cardigan (by Tin Can Knits) and wasn't sure what yarn to buy. I know I will have "to math" to get this yarn to work, but the Cardigan will be so scrumptious!
I'm so glad this can provide some insight! Thank you for watching and happy knitting on your Harvest Cardigan. I know you can do it!
Hi! Loving your videos. I noticed that you mention combining mohair with other yarns, do you mean knitting with 2 skeins, one of mohair and one with something else? How are they "combined"? Sorry, but I'm new to this! Thanks for sharing your beautiful creations. That yukka color is gorgeous and especially "mixed" with the brown one.
I’m currently knitting Petite Knit Sunday Socks using Fisherman’s Wool. YUM…I need to try a sweater, winters coming!
I was thinking that I would knit a pair of Sunday Socks with that Oatmeal FW! So cozy. And yes.. Winter is coming. 🐺
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS so good! Try them 🧦
Haha after finding this channel about a month ago I wondered what the Frankensweater was all about. So I went to rewatch all the podcasts, starting episode 1. and low and behold - I have found my answer 🎉
Wow Lisa! Thank you so much for taking that time. I hope you enjoyed that deep dive. ❤️
Super happy i did! Learned a lot while sitting next to my little one who refused to fall asleep 😴
Hi Taylor! I’m knitting the Petite Knit Lulu slipover in Fishermen’s Wool and I wonder if you know: what animal is the wool from? I can’t find info except for “virgin wool”. Someone on Ravekry suggested it is camel wool?!
The other question is that I hear that the manufacturing moved from the USA to China to India (currently). Do you know what qualities have changed with the changes in country?
Thanks Taylor. I have high hopes for this wool in this pattern.
I love finding VM in my fiber or yarn (as long as it's not excessive). I always take a moment to wonder about what kind of terrain this particular sheep was on :).
Looking forward to trying the Lovely Valley yarn company. It’s so close to me in Idaho. Funny story, my dad eloped with his second wife and got married in Winnemucca at the court house on their way to San Francisco.
I love this Becky. "Running away" and getting hitched in Winnemucca just sounds like the beginnings of a good story. ❤️
And I do hope you try Lovely Valley. I think you'll love the yarn.
Your Felix is turning out soooo beautiful ❤️
Thank you Mariliza!
Feeling inspired...
I am knitting a tin can knits sweater
I don’t know if it was just me but the fisherman yarn in the color oatmeal personally was super itchy.
I think the way this yarn feels is very individual. It may certainly have felt itchy to you. It is a more coarse yarn to be sure. Especially if it’s being compared to Merino. And really, reasons you may find it undesirable (scratchy/wooly) may be the exact reasons others prefer it. It’s just so subjective. But trust me, you’re not alone in thinking Fisherman’s Wool is itchy. It’s similar to the initial reaction many have to Lopi yarn when they get their hands on it for the first time. 👍
Hi Taylor! I woke up this morning so excited to work on my new raglan pullover and I see your video and I wanted to comment right away. Yesterday I started a hat in two by two rib and ..wow…it was so big. So I said “ I am not going to frog that, shouldn’t I turn it into something else? “ what else could I have turned ii into, if not into the neck band of a new pullover. LOL. I love fisherman wool!
Catalina I love this! What a great way to make the best out of all of that ribbing. ❤️. Happy knitting on your new pullover and thank you so much for watching!
I'm crocheting a cardi in the Lion Brand Fisherman's wool in the same color actually
I was excited to see your title with the Fisherman’s Wool since I bought some inspired by your previous video. Planning on a Drops Nordic pullover called Diamonds. Love your makes in this video and will check out your yarns as I do not have any beautiful yarn like the what you are wearing.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad that you've found some inspiration here. Happy knitting on you Nordic Pullover!
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Thank you! Joanne has this yarn as a doorbuster today. I was able to get an additional 25% by calling, the online code did not work. Hope this helps someone else. BTW, I got the oatmeal as the main color and heather brown as the accent. The oatmeal skein you have looks so nice. Your yarns are beautiful, and I plan to order soon.
Your Fisherman's Wool sweater is fantastic! It looks so cozy. Do you use any kind of special lanolin soap when you wash FOs made with it?
The podcast is such a happy spot in the week :)
Thank you! I’m really excited to see it come together. I use Eucalan wool wash that reintroduces lanolin into the yarn during the soaking process. Fisherman’s Wool doesn’t need that as much as it has a lot still in the yarn, but it’s nice to add it where you can. And it smells lovely! I recommend buying it in bulk on Amazon to save some $$. ❤
And it really makes my day to know that the videos bring joy. Thank you!❤
I did buy the yarn, fisherman wool, it looks fine. I made the gauge and it seems to me that the 5.5 metric it’s too large soi am going to make it with 4, metric. What needles have you used for yours….thank you.
But what size needles did you use….plzzzzzz.
Did you finish your Lions brand fisherman's wool sweater?
Fun video. Pumpkin was so cute!! may I ask how you made your coaster; I'd like to crochet or knit a few. Thank you!
HILARIOUS!!!
At the exact time I picked up to make a suggestion…you started talking about the LovelyValleyWool Co. 😂
Suggestion:
If you have not already…you should add merch to your shop with “It’s really Lovely”. 😁♥️
Yes. Totally. Actually, while editing this I thought the very same thing about the Lovely Valley Wool company. I’m thinking a shirt that says So lovely. and one that says You guys. I’m sure there’s a few more of my go-tos that are shirt worthy. 😂😅
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS is absolutely snag myself one of each. 😁♥️
Just found your channel today, and I'm hooked! I've only seen three eps, so I don't know if this is something you've already discussed, but how do you knit with two strands and avoid (or deal with) the strands twisting on themselves? I'm also a Continental knitter, and I don't know why it keeps happening, even when I take time to untwist them. Any tips? Thanks!
Always keep the same yarn at the top so if it was red and blue red would always be held on top and the blue from the bottom sounds weird but try it for a while,if you do get twisted just untwist as you stitch by checking which way the twist has gone and keep pulling your yarn one over the other till untwisted hope this helps
Hi. I’m new to the channel and desperately trying to catch-up. I know I’m late to the party but where do I find the Felix KAL and how does that work?
Hi, what hair of the mo are you using? And what color white, off white, beige???
I have a question about wools that still have their lanolin. I have a lot of the fisherman's wool that I bought years ago. I've not made it into anything yet because I'm not fond of the oily feel of the lanolin. Does the lanolin eventually wash out? Or will it always feel that way? While I'm not allergic to lanolin, and appreciate its benefits in moisturizing products, I'm just not crazy about the feel of it in a sweater.
This is a great question Andrea. So if you're not into the feel of it (and I totally get that), one way to reduce it is to add a little Dawn to your soak when you block the garment/piece. Eventually the lanolin will dissolve almost completely, but that first wash should alleviate the feel of it.
One of the benefits of lanolin is it's natural "cleansing" properties. When you hear people mention that wool sort of "cleans itself" what they're referring to is the antimicrobial nature of lanolin. It sort of does away with dead skin cells and dirt build up. (Sorry. I know that's gross.) So if you remove it, you may find that you'll need to launder your knits a little more often. Honestly, if you're using most commercial or Superwash hand-dyed yarn, you're already experiencing yarn with VERY little lanolin in the fiber. That's why they sell those soaks that add it back.
I guess my point is that if you don't love it, use the Dawn and get rid of it. No harm done to the yarn and you get to avoid that oily feel on your hands. If you find that you have to wash your knits a bit more often, no biggie.
Hope this helps. Thank you for watching Andrea!
My baby cat is also called Oscar! :D
😢😂fisherman’s wool was one of the first yarns that I ever purchased when I learned to knit 2 years ago and I didn’t know what to do with it and used it for a felted purse
Apparently it's great for felting! So cool! Honestly I'm sure it's not the first choice for most when they're shopping for sweater yarn, but it's just so similar to some of these more rustic yarns folks are springing for that it deserves its moment. It's really cool how it fits that bill.
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS if I had your video I definitely would have went for the sweater vs the bag. I love the bag but I craft on a budget. I love your channel and I always watch to see your makes as I live in Las Vegas and am not always sure because it’s hot here.
Hi Tayler, I really enjoy LB Fisherman’s yarn. Now I want to cast on something else 😂
Hi Lisa! Listen, I know the feeling. 😅 But at least the LB is super affordable and worth the frivolous cast on. ❤️❤️
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS it’s on sale at Joann’s for $9 right now. 😜
@@yoyarngirllisa3716 really?! Oh geez. 🤦♀️ I guess I’m going to need to make a trip…it can’t be helped.
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS I know right?!!! 🧶🧶🧶❤️
Do you have experience in photography? I’ve noticed your camera focuses quickly and is always set to the right exposure and also the filter you use is beautiful. Just curious :)
Hi Emily! I do not have professional photography experience, but I am pretty well self-taught. The focusing is really just the camera. It's amazing. As for the lighting and settings, that comes off of a lot of trial and error. 😅 Thank you so much for the compliment!
I wonder if she matched her mug and hot mat on purpose lol
Nope. I just got lucky. 😊
Your cable on the new cast on looked like the circle drawn on a pic to call attention to something.
😂
I’ve never knit with fisherman’s wool. Does it bloom nicely when blocked?
Yes! It definitely does. ❤️
I hava a question. When you put this sweater-piece on in the video the collar stands up. In the pattern on revalry its more streched out, i guess because the pictures on ravelry are after blocking. I realy want my collar to stand up like it was when you tried it on on the video after i have blocked it. Its not like a turtleneck (is it called like this in english?), but standing. How can i achieve that?
What sweater are you wearing in this podcast?
This is the Kinikin Cardigan. ❤️ www.ravelry.com/projects/TaylerEarl/kinikin-cardigan
I just downloaded the Felix pullover & would like to use German short rows rather than wrap and turn. Is this possible? Any suggestions?
Hi Linda! This is totally doable. Just sub out the GSR for the short rows called for. Enjoy!
My, maybe unpopular, opinion: 'even the most rustic and sustainable wool should not have hay in it! ' I use sustainably produced yarns most of the time, even handspun, and I know: the spinner is always able to remove the hay during the carding process. If I'd find much hay in the yarn I'd suspect the producers they added it to the yarn on purpose, to 'greenwash' it ...
But I still like your channel, I think I'll subscribe 😀
