Thank you for sharing this information! I am coming from a iPhone 12 to iPhone 15 pro max and totally agree that it IS a game changer! Literally! I’m a videographer and photographer and have to say that I am impressed. I’m also sold on the Black Magic app as well. Filmic was my go to until they went to subscription service. I’m out!
I was a little nervous about buying this phone because of all the bad reviews and talking about how phone heating up etc. But so far I have never had any issues with overheating and loving the camera!
The only issue I had was attempting to attach an ssd external drive to my phone. I keep getting the too much power error message. So I’m using a 1 T thumb drive and problem solved.
Thanks for sharing. I am on the 13 promax now and was almost going to upgrade to the 15 promax but held back because of the heating issue. Which was good because Apple will make some changes at the hardware level to address the issue and I will upgrade to the 16 promax instead. It will come with a new telephoto lens too. I can’t wait till September ! 16 promax + BM app will be a killer combo.
Although I haven't had any heating issues with my 15 Pro Max, you should go with what you think will work best for you.
If you are contemplating making content, my advice would be to START NOW. Don't wait for gear to be released before you start creating! There's MUCH more to creating content than the gear it was recorded with!

Man, that studio footage from the iPhone looks amazing…wouldn’t have guessed it was phone footage. What do you think of the 5x zoom? Is it too much reach for normal everyday shots of the kids etc?

I haven't used the 5x zoom TOO much however, you WILL need ample space to be able to shoot with it! It also does better in MORE light! I may do a full review on the camera lenses on the iPhone 15 proMAx?

I don't disagree with any of your points. Especially on real-estate. All the listing sites mess up quality anyhow so you aren't losing anything by just rolling with a phone for a lot of it.

Since I just got the ZV E10, I’m a lot less hyped to upgrade my iPhone 13 Pro max. But having the log abilities for those times my camera isn’t with me would be nice, so I’ll probably look at upgrading in the next couple months or so. I’m just a hobby photographer (and have to photograph my own ceramic work) who has been getting more and more into videography for the past couple years. But I’m also a perfectionist, and want everything to be the best I can manage to make it. 😂 So that log footage is calling my name.

I will say that the thing I do LOVE about the iPhone 15 Pro Max is that I always have the option to shoot with more color info in log.
All I need to do is carry an ssd with me! No extra lenses, batteries 🪫 or large gear to get SOLID footage!
I also get multiple focal lengths as well that can all slide in my pocket when I’m don’t shooting!

@@PurposedLensPhotoMedia its not required to have the external ssd...you can record to the phone if you want to. Using BMCA, you can even record log to H.264 I think (though I think that ProRes 422LT is a nice compromise). Apple's native camera app only requires SSD if you choose to shoot in 60fps, but you can still record log at 24 fps in 4k ProRes 422HQ using the native camera app internally.
@@MaximoJoshua You certainly can shoot internally however, recording times will be significantly reduced (due to limited storage) not to mention this also creates an EXTRA step in your workflow.
Being able to shoot directly to SSD then plugging that SAME ssd into your computer is hands down the BEST workflow.
It frees up your phone to go BACK to being a phone instead of offloading footage onto another drive.

Great overview thanks for all the help. Quick questions re 15 Pro Max with Black Magic app - When I use it connected via HDMI (clean out) the audio is a few frames out of sync. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I do believe I have heard this on some forums. It seems that some iPhone are affected after an update an disabling "stabilization" fixes the issue with lag.
I have not experienced this issue so I am not able to confirm if this works or not but it might work out for you.

Yes you are correct!
The BIG IMPROVEMENT now is the fact that the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max shoots log! This is a GAME CHANGER when it comes to color latitude and the ability to change MANY aspects of the final picture! ANOTHER HUGE factor is support for ACES (as I mentioned in the video).
The other phones didn't have these KEY features.

Why when doing video with my Iphone 13 Pro max the video look yellow and dark??

My iphone 15 pro max doesn't show the option for Apple ProRes 4444 in the Blackmagic App but the Iphone 13 does.
The iPhone 15PM does 4:2:2 not 4:4:4.
In order to enable log, you must enable log shooting in settings >camera > formats, scroll down to bottom and under Video Capture enable “Apple ProRes”.
Under ProRes Recording select “log”.
Now when you go into the settings on your BlackMagic app make sure your codec is set to ProRes4:2:2HQ and your Color Space is set to Apple Log.

I understand that , I was just pointing out that the iphone 15PM does't do ProRes 4444 as previous Iphone versions. Maybe the 422 log will make up for that. @@PurposedLensPhotoMedia
