Notice how Sorrento-Gillis went from "I'll make that decision" to "I want a formal declaration of war" with 30-seconds of convincing from Errinwright.
Amos is, of course, always willing to rescue a child, so he was in favor of the plan to go to Io, and he has become a fast friend of Prax.
Drummer is always disbelieving about the idea of the Belt becoming a unified nation.
Ooooo boy, season 3, when shit gets even more real. Can't wait to see your reactions to [REDACTED] and when [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED] happens. All of the book 3 events are so well done, it's a great time. And then season 4 is just gonna be chillin there, waiting to be watched
Amos' categories were "bad people," "people you follow," and "people you protect." Naomi isn't "bad people," but she used to be "people you follow." Now she's still "people you protect," but it's jarring to have lost someone he had so faithfully followed for so long and through so much.
What did see in last season's finale was that Strickland was on Io. They showed an image of a moon orbiting Jupiter. I Googled images of Jupiter's moons to see that the moon was Io.
The Nauvoo could be in any kind of orbit around the sun, but it's unlikely to be on a quick course into the sun because its course was for a glancing blow that would vector Eros into that direction. It would most likely end up in an orbit close to Eros' original orbit.
The thing with the pine tree they named the ship after is that its seeds only open up and start to grow after a forest fire heats them up to a high enough temperature. The tree has to burn to reproduce. Prax is being poetic rather than literal.

The ending of this season premiere is apropos. Season 3 is off to the races. Strap in, crew. It's going to be a helluva ride!
Also, Team ABC (Avasarala, Bobbie, Cotyar) is my favourite team-up of the show so far. Their dynamic and chemistry is top notch. Formidable team but funny as hell.
Can't wait for you to see season 3 and 4 a lot of good things are coming up.

The Navoo is not on course for the sun. It's flight path was calculated to knock Eros into the sun...it was going to hit the station at an angle like a pool cue ball hitting a numbered ball.

Great to have you back, hope you had a good end of year. Also that top is amazing! At first I thought it was getting the space environment as an artifact from green screen, until I realized it wasn't. It looks so cool though.
Clarification on the Navoo stuff (NO SPOILERS): When sth is in an orbit around sth (earth around sun, moon around earth, even eros headnig for earth is in orbit around the sun), it has a high velocity that keeps it from falling into the specific object. Example: earth is currently traveling very fast around the sun (around 30 km/s). If it was to suddenly stop, it would slowly accelerate directly towards the sun (and therefore "fall" into the sun).
For Eros, they plotted the navoo in a course that would reduce its velocity to 0, so it would fall into the sun. That doesnt meen the navoo tried to ram it into the sun, it simply meens they were aiming for a head-on collision to stop all of its momentum. Since eros mooved out of the navoos way, the navoo is still on its way somewhere in the solar system, but the ship itself was never directly aimed at the sun.

Errinwright legit did come clean for pure reasons. He endangered Earth, and he could help fix that, so he did. That's the core of Errinwright, Earth is everything to him. in his view Avasarala betrayed his oath by agreeing to meet with Mao, he's blind to the fact he himself has done the very same thing. He's the definition of ends justify the means, and he so narrowly focused on Eath's supremacy he does not see any other way then as Mao said "bringing the boot heel to your former colony". He may even view the concept of Mars as folly, and Earth's supremacy and saftey being an existential issue to the species.
I love Holden's character in season 3! Can't wait for you to see how he evolves.

I see Kat is extremely emotionally invested in this show and its great to watch you both. Its certainly a rollercoaster ride from here on in. I was checking your channel to see if you ever reacted to 'LOST' but i guess not. I would really like to see you guys tackle it one day as its one of the the greatest TV shows ever created and the emotions would be busting out! 😊

The thing with The Navoo is that Eros moved out of the way, Navoo didn't miss. Things in space once they get started they keep on moving until stopped by something. So the Navoo is on a trajectory out of the Solar System at the moment.
About the Proto-molecule, the big thing that is able to do is literally change the laws of physics locally, as it did with Eros.

Pinus Contorta is the scientific name for the Lodgepole Pine, a very common tree in the western US. Wildfires allow its pinecones to open, because they need heat to melt a resin that seals them. But the adult trees usually don't die in the wildfires, so what Prax said is simplified/dramatized to the point of being incorrect
I always love your reactions guys, its definitely going to take me a minute to adjust to watching the start of season 3 (storyline wise). You both are literally only half way through experiencing the series, I envy you both.

Nauvoo was heading sunward with it's engines turned off, when it was close to the Sun it's trajectory got "bent" by Sun's gravity a bit similar to the way comets do. So it isn't as far as people may think because it didn't fly off straight out of the Solar system
This is an incredible season. Two seasons in one really and when it gets moving, it is like a freight train. Skip the opening credits on episode 7. The rest are fine! The new name for the Roci is 'Pinus Contorta'.
In the book the Nauvoo gained quite a lot of speed before running dry. It would have vanished into interstellar space had the Belters not salvaged it. To do that they actually had to heavily retrofit a ship and burn like hell for a long time to catch the Nauvoo. It was an operation that took months to complete. In the show this plays out a little differently, as you will see soon...
28:46. There is a CZcams channel called Spacedock, that does detailed descriptions of ships from science fiction movies, games, and TV shows based on canon information from source. They have a number of fascinating videos on ships from The Expanse, including the one the Nauvoo is about to be repurposed into. I'd advise you wait until after seeing season 3 ep. 7 to avoid potential spoilers, but it's a really valuable resource for ship-related reference material.
They are also canon as they partnered with the creators to ensure accuracy I believe.
The Nauvoo was supposed to tap Eros into the right direction - it was not aimed directly toward the Sun. Think of shooting pool, where you can't line up the shot in a straight line between cue ball, target ball, and pocket - you have to hit at an angle. The Nauvoo was unfinished, so they could remotely turn off the Epstein drives (stop the constant acceleration), but not turn it. So with a hard burn (and a more direct, straight-line path), Drummer can catch it.
I think this episode and the next one are my favorite episodes. You are both in for a great ride.

I think Amos said exactly as he meant; she's not the person I thought she was, meaning he had some idolized version of her in his head. Thing is, we don't know what that version looked like as she was doing what she wanted, what was right but she lied about it and after forcibly not needing him on Ganaymede to protect her he sorta lost how to view her or the halo fell from his admiration but she's flawed and he doesn't know how to reconcile that but she's still family. *

Season 3 has some of the best stuffs in the whole show, buckle up!
If the protomolecule was able to accelerate Eros then it's able to DE-cellerate Eros. It made an, at least partially, controlled collision with Venus. It wasn't a nuclear level impact; survivable from the protmolecule's perspective. I can hardly wait for your reaction to a particular scene in episode six. ...And a final reminder to not watch the opening credits for episode seven.
Aaaaand now we know somethings' gonna happen in episode 6 ...........

Yeah, that tracking shot from the ship above Venus until the battle over Ganymede, while the different narrators talk about their point of view about the war is still my favorite moment of the season and my top ten of the series overall.
Also, Kat's cosmic blouse matches perfectly with the show atmosphere. If you don't mind, I think I'll nickname you, Cosmic Kat, if you decide to keep with it during Expanse reactions.

Re: the war that sparked between Earth and Mars: it resulted from fighting that broke out over Ganymede, after the Errinwright-commanded destruction of the Martian ship sent to pick up the Protomolecule Hybrid sample and scientists. Errinwright then used that, along with the fears over the Arboghast incident, to convince Sorrento-Gillis that Earth had to commit to a quick and decisive course of war.
Yeah, it sucks that Errinwright is able to manipulate events like this.. we hope he gets what he deserves at some point 😉

I always viewed the story of The Expanse as a first contact experience of a Kardashev Level 1 civilization meeting a Kardashev Level 3 civilization (albeit a relatively dead one) set in a backdrop of GOT in space.
Kat and Sonny I know you are short in time, but if you can check out the Novellas and novels do it. It will help film some gaps.
But the show is so good. I actually feel some Season Adaptation of the books is better than the books. I liked Season 4 way more than Book 4.
That is what happens when the showrunners are the authors of the novels. As opposed to GOT who was run by Dumb and Dumber (Dan and Dave).
I tried to catch up but it's not going to happen lol. Only a few days until the S5 finale, gotta few episodes to watch so I don't get spoiled
