This brother and his group are fantastic and I really miss this type of music on a broad media scale. R&B, Funk, and Rock are all at their best when merged with the depth of Jazz music. Thanks for posting.
I had a "funk" band in high school.. If we only had access to youtube back then.. The corporate record store didnt carry stuff like this. Somehow we wrote similar stuff by accident, probably absorbed from old tv shows and movies like CHPs and car chase scenes. We had no idea we were hearing Herbie Hancock and Bob James. I know now.
Máster of Masters!!!
I got my first guitar. Since we wanted to be a musician this was the stuff we listened to..... for hours...... in a "chiba" induced state of meditation.

+LA Hair Extensions Atlanta , this is Dr. Lonnie Smith. He called himself the Dr. when he was confused with Lonnie Liston Smith. So this is the Dr. Lonnie Smith.
Who cares why he is wearing a turban. .There was a dude in the ohio players who wore a turban. ..They are both super funky. ..now just listen to the music
icon200 Lonnie’s Turban was his own. Great guy great talent. Look for my Vinyl Re-Release to honor my Dad A&R, producer, and label owner Sonny Lester. Dad passed recently. Looking back on all the studio sessions I attended. Fun times and great energy sessions.
Is it just me or is Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie' taken from Lonnie Smith's 'It's Changed' ??!? Listen to those 2 bass notes, leading into the major 7 guitar chords. It might be half step up or down, but it's definitely the same thing!
Some Sikh funk right here!
+Yasja de Miranda I see what you did there...lol
+aquarianrealm he's not a sikh. Nobody really knows why he wears the turban - Lonnie is a very private man. But yes, it is a decent joke!
+John Clark -- He must be Sikhing something?? -- They do say Sikh and you shall find, but whether that's true or not, who can tell?
H's just seeking a sikh funky tune, after all we are all here for the sake of some sikh melodies!
Cheers from Morocco
Yasja de Miranda k
I met the Dr a few years ago.. I’m like “I play guitar I love your music” and says.... so “you’re family!” It was super heart warming.

I absolutely love how the bass is mixed in this album.
mixed by bon jovis uncle who went on to own right track studios

What references are profile pics ? Albums ? Im kinda interested now
@@umutalandag6853 Correct! It's Headhunters by Herbie Hancock.
the lateral lisp on the letter "S" reminds me of the singer who has played with Santana
Je suis preneur. La Musique est bien bonne. C'est Soul, voir Funky. Yes !!!
blimey,Lonnie Liston Smith's changed a lot!
+samtyler100 This is Dr Lonnie Smith not Lonnie Liston Smith who played with Pharaoh Sanders and Miles.
Going to see if I can get this album on vinyl
My bad, thought this was Dr. Lonnie Liston Smith...I like this guy!
+LA Hair Extensions Atlanta ,
this is Dr. Lonnie Smith. He called himself the Dr. when he was confused with Lonnie Liston Smith. So this is the Dr. Lonnie Smith.
He was called "Dr" by other musicians, because he used to doctor the tunes, not because of any confusion with the other one.
I always skipped him in the "Lonnie Liston" Playlist because i thought he`s not the original - But now i regret it!!!
Damn, this music is cool!!!!
that first track is dope
Cadê os Br's?! curtindo esta sonseira da boa!
Opa tem um aqui amigão!!!!!
Tamo na área!
É "nóis", mano!
salve salve simpatia
bella immagine di copertina. si addice al funk
17:17 one of the best drum fills / transitions EVER
Agreed! Do you know who it is? Sounds like Rick Morotta but that's just a guess.
Actually I just found it, it's Allan Schwartzberg who has played with Roxy Music, Peter Gabria and goodness who else.
Who cares why he is wearing a turban. .There was a dude in the ohio players who wore a turban. ..They are both super funky. ..now just listen to the music
I had the chance to meditate a few times with the brother who played the bass and wore the turban of the Ohio Players.
Reminds me of Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs! Cool.
icon200 Lonnie’s Turban was his own.
Great guy great talent. Look for my Vinyl Re-Release to honor my Dad A&R, producer, and label owner Sonny Lester.
Dad passed recently. Looking back on all the studio sessions I attended. Fun times and great energy sessions.
But........ why is he wearing a turban?
Sikh headwear is called a "Dastar."

Is it just me or is Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie' taken from Lonnie Smith's 'It's Changed' ??!? Listen to those 2 bass notes, leading into the major 7 guitar chords. It might be half step up or down, but it's definitely the same thing!
Valerie was written by a British band called the Zutons :-)
