    I used to live down the street on Bridges Ave in Auburndale Fla. I love watch this video. Also I used to travel on Sliver Star or Meteor When I was visiting my grandparents in MA would take from Winter Haven Fl to Washington DC Union Station switch trains catch the Northeast Regional from DC to Springfield MA. Love travel by rail when I was a kid I miss travel by Amtrak. Thank you for this video. A blast from the past.

    The car right behind the loco on the Miami section is a former US Army Medical Corp Ambulance Car built in 1952. An intact one is preserved at the Army Medical Corp Museum in San Antonio TX. A second one is at the US Army Transportation Corp Museum at Ft Eustis VA. Amtrak still has one that was converted to a training car located in Hialeah FL.

    Very cool treat seeing the Seaboard Geep. I remember seeing that line that you referred to as a passenger train speed way. It may have been in the early 80s, but I remember driving on I-4 one day, looking down from the overpass where that line crossed underneath and saw the piles of ties and rails that were ripped up. Saddening sight.

    I wonder if anybody ever got any video of the old Saint Petersburg Amtrak station. They stopped running trains there in 1984 as far as I understand.

      Thanks...Looks like Elfers was at the end of a spur line from Tarpon Springs, according to a SAL map from 1963. That line ran from St. Petersburg to West Lake Wales across the Miami subdivision where there was probably a connection. Thanks for sharing your memories.

    Recently there have been a number of times when 91 and 97 could have combined to run together to Miami. But they don't. I can say that I have traveled on the now gone Auburndale to Wildwood segment on Amtrak. It is too bad that segment is gone.

      Yes, The two Amtrak s combining at Auburndale, Fl during the lightning storm and downpour in June 1983? I thought I had uploaded it to you tube, but I guess not. I wonder if someone might enjoy seeing it here on you tube?

    They weren't good looking, but Amtrak must have run them for nearly 20 years. They must have been good locomotives. CSX has a couple for Office Car Specials. Weren't they essentially GP40-2s?

    • @DaveEdwardsEntertainment
      @DaveEdwardsEntertainment  Před 4 lety +1

      Since I'm not to swift at identifying locomotives, they probably are. Anyone else want to weight in?
