Katherine may not be a diva among all American Idol contestants. Her range may not be crazy wide. But no one can deny her tone. It's so rich, buttery, and angelic. And her beauty too, world beauty pageant level. This is my favourite rendition of the song.

Katharine was 1000% in her element singing this. On American Idol she would always try to do songs that stressed her voice too much, but this is EXACTLY where she excels. This version & their voices together are incredible. Their voices just blend so perfectly together. Beautiful 😍

People don't realize how good Foster's Sound Tech's are, it's not just that these two are great singers, but the microphones, balances and all that are 100% on point with the music. It's not just about the singer, your equipment will make or break the show, and David Foster has the very best.

I remember watching when she got second place on American Idol, many years back. I face-palmed so hard in that moment. :P She should've won, hands down! :) Anyway, I was watching this performance on PBS around the time it came out back then and was happy to see Katherine get what she *TRULY* deserved! She's an amazing singer and of course I don't have to say that, this video proves it, among many others. :)

There are only a few of the many women who have sung with AB that can be said were born to sing duets with Andrea Bocelli. Celine is one, and Katherine is definitely another. They harmonize so beautifully that their chord sounds like one person.
When AB and Heather Headley sing the song, she sings it the best of all of them, like it or not.

I'm calling it pretty much even-steven between Celine and Katherine. The difference being the range in the higher notes. Celine has a higher range and power, and Katherine the lower of the two. It depends on the listeners preference, some think that the song sung with power is the way to sing it, others think that lower softer version has more depth. As to Somos Novios, it hasn't been sung nearly as many times as TP, and on CZcams, it is K and Chistrine A. Both are excellent, however they both do too many runs, which I personally don't care for. And you are right about Haley, although not many know about her as she doesn't sing much in the US for some reason. Few sing Vivo Per Lei as well as she and have you ever heard her sing Pie Jesu? Such as in Celtic Women? Stunning. Of course there is the wonderful Jackie Evancho who pretty much launched her career on that song.
On another note: Have you noticed that the great David Foster mentored C, J, and K? How many others has he been instrumental in their careers, such as Josh Groban? And how many could have been so much better who weren't? Charlotte Church, for example, imagine what she would still be like now if she hadn't started smoking, drinking and partying heavy. She is still fine, but now 'average' to all the others out there, if you know what I mean. God, she was something up until about 16 or so...
+ethel1940 I'm sorry but it's a matter of taste. I personally appreciate it when a talented vocalist is able to demonstrate control instead of belting out power. I thought this was really good, especially considering it was live - she was very controlled and did the song justice. In my opinion and to my ear, Heather seemed to try to out-sing or overpower AB - which should be a sin. I feel she ruined the song, whereas you clearly prefer that - different strokes I guess.

When you get the best singers, musicians, arrangers, producers, audio engineers together for a performance, something magical happens.... you can see that Bocelli and Mcphee enjoy working together..... and at 4:36 of this performance, when they end that long held note, there are vibrations going on in that room that can be felt across the galaxy. This is beyond magical. Whenever I feel down and the world is just being cruel to me, I sit down with my laptop all alone then I play this song; almost like it brings me at peace and serenity and I feel happy. Andre Bocelli and Katharine McPhee sing absolutely beautifully together; they have the most complimentary voices to one another and she gives him such respect. When she sings she didn't miss her notes or fail to hold her notes long enough... she cut them a little short, I think, just to give him the respect that he so well deserves!

I watch this video every few months and I fall in love with Kat every time I watch. She is beautiful, compassionate, warm and truly a gifted singer. She and Andrea are two of the best singing couples I have ever seen. I have been a singer my entire life and have never heard any song that can compare. David Foster is a great writer and blessed to have Kat in his life. I hope he knows it.
