Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever.
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right!
Let tyrants remember the day
When our fathers, with mighty endeavor,
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever!

I never knew that there were lyrics to Stars and Stripes Forever. This changes everything.
I always thought the lyrics were;
Be kind to your web-footed friends,
For a duck may be somebody's mo-ther.
this is bacon the lyrics are Be kind to your web footed friends...
Yup, Sousa write them himself. You can images find manuscripts online; I know Library of Congress has them. I think there's also a well-recognized version that adds lyrics for four parts and the other sections of the song.
I know I'm late, but I hope you still find this intriguing.
Yes captain spock there are lyrics to this song....sorry i had to say it after looking at your profile picture.
There are more lyrics then are preformed here. Look up the barbershop quartet version by Acoustix for example.
You people are so lucky to have selected music as your profession in the Military. I played the Clarinet and Saxophone sense the 4th grade, and all through High School. When I went in the Navy during the Viet Nam war, I never thought of trying for the band. I became a Aircraft Mechanic instead. I stayed in for 13 years but was given an early out because the war ended. Now I'm almost 70 years old and still have the Horns. My Clarinet was given to me from my Uncle who was in the Army band during WW2 and the Korean conflict. He later had his own Band after getting out and played night clubs for years. I played a couple of shows with him. That was fun.
I don't know why, but, I stopped playing the Clarinet after I came home and never picked it up until this year. Now after 38 years, I forgot how to do the fingering in the higher register and don't seem to have the wind as I used to. But after seeing your Clarinet player play softly, I decided to teach myself again and just play softly. I was so grateful to watch your beginners video, because it gave me the fire to want to play again. Thank you and God Bless.
What a great story Robert, thanks for sharing. Playing music is a life long journey and it's never too late to get back into it. Glad we have inspired you to pick the horn back up! Have you seen our clarinet video? It's a little dated but the content is good. We hope it gets your creativity cooking. czcams.com/video/eeD7xnj_XhU/video.html
We enjoyed your story too. Thank you Robert from all the A&Ps at DAL
It is never to late to go back to playing. I had not played in 29 years and went to the local community band and I have never looked back. It is now my life! Check out local community bands and check out the New Horizons website for a band near you. New Horizons is all about getting back into playing. Take lessons if you have to to get started or just go and keep working on your own! I have band members well into their 80s and even some in their 90s!
thank you for your service and same to you
Thank you for serving!
The amazing part of this, is that once John Philip Sousa began putting this to paper, he never changed a note. He wrote this in one take, no revisions. True divine inspiration.
Or a fairy❤

He changed the tubas part.

That's Army discipline forya! ;o)
It would be a soli but I totally agree
Tomas Garcia, That’s practice.
I know for my school me and 1 other girl did it but 5?????
That solo is harder than it looks. I tried playing it on my alto sax. XD
Love the spontaneous natural smiles after that flawless piccolo solo. You know when you've nailed it. They nailed it.
The trills were exactly in unison. Tough to do, but yes, they nailed it!
Why is a "piccolo quintet" playing with accompaniment called a "piccolo solo"?
What is the American meaning of the word "SOLO"?

I'm 15 and adopted from Guatemala. I've never really been happy with being adopted since it was a closed adoption, but whenever I hear this song performed by The US Army Field Band, I think of how happy I am to be in America and how wonderful it is to have the feeling of safety everyday because of the US Army. This is my favorite version of this song and I listen to it all the time! Well done!

We're happy to have you with us in the USA. Thanks for your kind sentiments.

Hello though this may be a weird place to say this I am also adopted from Guatemala, and looking at this country sometimes it makes me wonder if I may have been better of in Guatemala were in not hated on. But I agree I think this song brings hope.
Those piccolos were amazingly in tune. I've never heard multiple piccolos sound good together but that was FIVE and it was perfect. It's so easy to go out of tune on something so small because the slightest movement will change the pitch. Those players are very impressive.
That explains why when I typed "piccolo" into google the top result was "Piccolo is dead".

I feel like this would also be a good anthem for the United States
It's our national march so it's a kind of march anthem.
Technically it is
Fun fact: I was seriously wondering if this is an *actual* US anthem as a kid.

Sousa really showed his genius with this march, it is absolutely perfect, every note exactly correct, remove any part would diminish the entire work.
