    Ride the Rails in Real-time: • CTA's Ride the Rails: ...
    Ride the Rails in Time-lapse: • CTA's Ride the Rails: ...
    The CTA has more than 224 miles of railroad tracks across Chicago and surrounding suburbs, serving the agency's eight rail lines. In an average weekday, there are about 2,200 train trips making stops at the system's 145 rail stations. For more than 100 years, the 'L' has offered a unique perspective of Chicago.
    In the first-ever documentation of its kind, the CTA has created a ride along the length of each rail line. Shot in HD, you can now experience the 'L' like never before from the vantage point of the rail operator. You can even transfer between lines.
    Hop aboard, and enjoy the ride.

    Brush off the haters, cta. The video and music are awesome. There's a reason even a transit video has 25,000+ views in a week.

      Bullet trains won't work as urban rapid transit. There are way too many stops. They work better as intercity express trains, though.

    Why is Chicago different from New York, Toronto, Paris where there are usually hi-rise condos. or apts. near rapid transit stations. But in Chicago, once you get out beyond a certain point all I can see are low density buildings?

    This was cool. I've ridden this line, but not that far out to either end. The south end of the trip was a bit bleak, riding between the two lanes of highway--doesn't seem the most intelligent place to put a train line, as train lines and highways tend to favor very different sorts of development (walking-oriented vs. car-oriented).

      We wanted to see the science museum, which is on the Green Line in the southside Chicago.
      Lots of poverty, lots and lots and lots of vacant buildings like in Detroit.
      On the way back we took the commuter train back downtown.

    This was a great video. After reading the comments, here are my comments, some about the comments:
    1) The Music worked for this Red Line Video. The music especially compliment the tunnel light effects when going thru the subway portion of the line. I hope the future series of CTA EL line videos uses different musical genres with local musical talent.
    2) BLUE JELLY BEAN, This video had to have been low cost to make. Just set up a camera, no real editing, add the soundtrack and then post it. I would think this was an intern that did this.
    3) starklassik. I can agree with a hyperlapse video, in the future use two camera to create to videos, if it does not get in the way of the operator.
    4) Graeginator I rode all the EL trains in one day!.
    5) Recommend filming on the weekend with not track workers.
    6) quartzy The "engineer" finished wiping his ass and went back to work.
    I look forward to :see the other lines' videos.
    Cheers

      I forgot 7) What's up with the water between the trails between Chicago and Lake as the train passes under the Chicago River? I think some chemical grouting will help to save on your electric bills and wear/tear/maintenance of the dewatering sump pumps.

    Hey guys, I love the idea but the quality is still poo. Can we get 1080p 60fps with a much higher bitrate, the artifacts are horrible!

    • @AndrewBoudreau
      @AndrewBoudreau Před 9 lety +3

      I did. Its the bitrate / codec not the resolution.

    • @pseuzo
      @pseuzo Před 9 lety

      Agreed, the aggressive compression makes parts of the video (especially the beginning at Howard) very blocky. You can have the highest resolution, but if the bitrate isn't sufficiently high it will still look like crap. =/

    • @AndrewBoudreau
      @AndrewBoudreau Před 9 lety

      Jason Steele if it wasn't the codec you wouldn't see blocking artifacts around the stop names and cta logo. I just want to see the much higher quality version. The low light tunnel shots look great

    From the view of the operator? How about cta does another video showing what it's like being a rider on this shit line? I ride this train literally everyday on the way to work anywhere from 3am to 1pm and it's literally a cesspool on rails. Surrounded by homeless people who literally harass you for anything from a quarter to a cigarette to whatever they can think of. Bed bugs on cars that you bring home then get the fun of getting rid of so bad I saw them crawling all over a homeless person. Crimes such as robbery, stabbings, and even murder and rape are commonplace and nothing is done. Smells terrible like human feces and garbage. Even saw a car with human shit smeared over every inch of the car. Chicago is disgusting not the city I used to love. Can't wait to get enough money to leave and never come back.
