Blessed to have come up in that Era, when music was so real and much morality
Yes Lord,,, Totally agree. I was born in the Early 60's❤. The 70's was an age of unimaginable change.... wonderment and ,..., some more shit.
Just trust me. I'm sure that's an era that will probably be lied about in Future History classes.,,😂😂😂 no offense. I was there. If you do the math.,.,I was born in 19 Friggin 60 ! Look it up millennials
Umm Umm Ummm ❤
It's hard to really describe... In a few words. Well right now for sure😂 Peace
Just a white kid growing up in the 60s and 70s loving Curtis, Issac and the rest. Color never an issue just incredible music!
The great Curtis Mayfield. That SuperFly sound tracks is one of the greatest movie sound tracks of all time.
Facts but don't limit his greatness to the Superbly sdtrk as his greatness with sdtrks extends to the #Claudine and #Sparkle Sdtrk as well. Not to mention his Impressions and solo artist work.
The original Rapper with music that made sense and relatable there’s no match for the Great Curtis Mayfield 🙏🏾 for your legacy of music
RIP❤
A caring compassionate genius who wrote and sung from the heart RIP Curtis your legend lives on 🙋♂️
One of the most intricate and innovative song writer of the 20th.Century .Mr.Soul himself gone but not forgotten .
I was 13 when this song came out and actually saw the movie Superfly in the theater at that age in the early 70's.
As a young man back in the day this was the 💩💩💩 those were the days.✌🏼
This is something you don't see or hear too much live nowadays, vocals just as good as you hear them on wax... Curtis was so dam smooth... All these rappers thinking they originated trap music, but the original black musician talking about drug dealing was CURTIS MOTHAFUCKIN MAYFIELD! #RIPSalute
Those were the days.. music was music 🙏👍
Brother Mayfield...your music is timeless, your influence indelible, your impact on all things creative unmatched. God's original urban troubadour. Rest in peace my brother. The world turns a bit more consciously, because of what you contributed to it.🎸
Curtis was a genius. .
Curtis did his thing with the Superfly Soundtrack RIP❤ Mr. Curtis Mayfield And Mr. Ron O'Neal❤ Greatest Singer And Actor. Miss You Both🙏🙏

IMPRESSIONS ANYONE? BLACK MAGIC WOMAN.
CHOICE OF COLORS? 😲
I saw him live two years before he past away talking about social justice that was the man
I loved his Falsetto!
I’m 61 years old but I remember so clearly my brother after coming home from Vietnam listening to this man on his transitor radio in his room for hours love the sound him and so many others helped a lot of men make it through that horrible time in history
We miss you Curtis!
CURTIS MAYFIELD GENIUSZ GENIUSZ GENIUSZ nad GENIUSZAMI KOSMOS KOCHANI na zawsze dziękuję BARDZO
I always thought the track "Billy Jack" is SO underrated. Rest Well, Mr. Mayfield✊🏾💯💯
Yes it is, and it comes off beautifully live (heard the even better live take of it on the Ronnie Scott's album, with a powerful spoken introduction by Curtis?).
They were scheduled to appear at an outdoor festival event in southern Sweden, where I live, around this time, in July 1988, but when I bought tickets Mayfield had already cancelled, perhaps because of the live recording/documentary film of his shows in London a few weeks before? I did get to see James Brown and his band - a fun memory, the JB's with Maceo Parker were great as always - and some other very good acts, so I have long since stopped grudging that I didn't get the chance to see Curtis live. At an outdoor open-air gig he would probably not have reached quite the same stark energy and precision that he got to in an indoor club show like this one.,,,
Miss your music. Musical genius❤
One of the best movie scores ever written, timeless and forever relevant.
Yes indeed - and (as I only learnt yesterday) most of it was recorded live in the studio, with the 40-piece orchestra and band together! (for reasons of time, they recorded all of the album in just three days, except for Pusherman which had been cut earlier. I figure Curtis probably overdubbed his lead vocals to the full backing track, but the instrumental backing was done live and with very little later editing. Who today would have attempted to record a song like the title track live in one go?
Curtis was a phenomenal gifted musician thank God for his music rest in peace my brother ❤ ❤❤
Don't have to say much just listen to his music. Rare artist.
Happy 80th birthday in heaven to the musical genius 💚💚💚

Truly one of God's most soulful musicians, Mr. Curtis Mayfield!! See ya in heaven dear brother. Can't wait to play along side of you then. Eternal Rest!
finest ever, our Curtis Mayfield. One of the best Black Music writer. Every song delivers a message, the message is deep yet easy to understand. Every listener should, @ the end, be left satisfied and contented. Reality
One of the best music writers ever. Don’t qualify him as the best black writer. See. That’s the problem. Stop seeing people as black when they are great. They are great because of their music not because they are black. Listen up white people.
The bass player shows you how good this music is

One of the smoothest and soulful musicians. Love all of the superfly music from Curtis. Especially Freddies dead . Curtis also leaned a lot on a more jazzy type music. Trust me. He could sing anything and everything. He will always be a bright Star.

I saw him as a teenager and as a grown man…every chance I got, I even got back stage to the dressing room and took pictures with him when Jackie Wilson was the headliner along with B.B. King and Jerry Butler on the same bill…

Are timeless and current at the same time
Curtis made this film. An incredible man.
I was mere boy when I heard people get ready growing up a dirt road with no indoor bathtub in a crowded little house. Parents done their best with a box fan and swamp cooler for summertime. And my oldest brother gave us his record player and some Chinese Checkers while the milkman brought us two fresh gallons and would come in your house and put it in the ice box.. Time moved on as all the siblings left one by one. At the age of 15 Mama bought me this Airline record player from Montgomery Wards. It had two speakers that would separate about 10 feet apart. So one evening I went out to BenFranklins and saw the new Curtis Mayfield album.. And I thought I better get that one.. On the cover album Curtis was dressed in light yellow suit setting down way out on a hill side.. I couldn’t wait to get home and put it on.. Aw man the song Moving on up just took off and I was hooked.. Then came the live album from the Bitter Inn with Lucky Scott on bass and Master Henry Gibson on percussion .. As time moved on that dirt became a paved road and things begin to change in the town.. And as time changed Curtis had his hand on the pulse of society with Underground . He gave us encouragement songs like Miss Black America a song about little girls dreams.. We can only thank him for all that he has done to keep us aware preach about hope and peace . He was a prophet of sorts and I shall never forget him. Rest In Peace Curtis cause We’re a Winner and never let anybody say boy you can’t make it. LB Tuesday July 2, 2022
A Man a Musician a Brotha who set the tone for how a lot of Music Genres we see today got created!!
At any given time, Curtis never misjudges the skills of his backing band.

what a musical experience! I love all the live instrumentals etc. RIP Mr. Mayfield Legend!
OLD SKOOLIN BABY!!!!
I’m 75 years old as of April 2023 and I still respect the messages that came through his songs. As a kid growing up in the south (North Carolina), as we demonstrated and protested against segregation in Greensboro along side the students from N.C. A&T State University….Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions music held us in unity as we marched the streets with Jessie Jackson who was a student and president of the student body at A&T. Songs like “Keep on Pushing “…”People Get Ready “….”Amen” and so many more. His music was the soundtrack to the Civil Rights Movement way before Marvin Gaye was doing conscious music. Every time Curtis came to town wether he was with Jerry Butler, or The Impressions, or with his own band…I would attend his concerts…the brother always had his thumb on equality and freedom and righteousness for our people in his music. I will always jam to his groove…RIP my brother, your music will always and forever be in my heart ❤…God sent you to help us endure the revolution of America in the 1960’s….
Thank you for this personal context. I am Scots, remember hearing and loving Curtis Mayfield in many incarnations (I’m an old bird from 60’s) but didn’t experience firsthand some of the many social injustices he sings of. He made amazing music with devastating depth of lyrics, absolute genius!
Who was the original drummer for pusherman?
Sorry that there were/are needs for protests.
Jimmyadam, yes, sir!!!!
I don't know how to respond. Or if I should. You've lived through so much
