    So glad you’ve made it this far, I just can’t tell you how easy it is to make your bed look like this for about $120(October 2019), depending on your sources for materials.
    You are going to need: *SEE UPDATE BELOW*
    UNTREATED BOARDS
    *13-2x6x8 (actual measurement 1.5”x5.5”)
    * 4 - Simpson Strong Ties (2.5’s)
    *1 lb. box of 3” screws
    BED FRAME MADE FOR **QUEEN* SIZE BED, MEASURING OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS AT 60”x80”, MADE TO BE FLUSH WITH THE BOX SPRING.
    **FOUNDATION**
    2 @ 36” {head and foot}
    2 @ 65” {sides}
    3 @ 33” {supports}
    (As seen in time lapse) Screw in from the front of the head and foot board ((36” each)){labeled this for perspective}) into the side boards 65” ea. Measure from the outside, on the edges to line up with the side boards, to 18”, 34”, & 50” and place a mark for the spacing on your support boards inside of your foundation. Screw your support boards in to the center of these marks. This spacing provides 18” from the head and the foot, with 16” spacing in the two gaps in the middle to provide support for bodies that are sleeping.
    LED light strips come with an adhesive backing. I didn’t use this and instead for flexibility I simply used scotch tape to attach the lights to the foundation. This allows me the ability to remove them easily if I move.
    This may be somewhat out of order, but attach your frame braces (2”x4”, cut to 10” each) to the inside of your foundation. See my King size floating bed frame video to trade these 2x4 pieces for Simpson Strong Ties. Amazon links are commissioned. If you click on any Amazon links in the descriptions of my YT videos and make a purchase, I will get a commission. This is one way you can help support my channel and please know that I only link to products that I actually use myself.
    Lights:

    **BED FRAME**
    2 @ 60” (head and foot)
    2 @ 77” (sides)
    4 @ 57” (supports)
    Measure your head board 12” from each side, line this up with the outside of your foundation side boards and attach to your braces. 57” support boards will be measured 10.5” from each end (to compensate for the side boards)...these will be 10.5” and 46.5”. Line these marks up with the outside of your foundation and attach to braces. Attach side and foot boards and you are likely close enough now that I don’t need to tell you to vacuum before you start showing us how you did it. You’ve spent this much time, please leave me a comment. Thanks so much for your time.
    This is my first CZcams video that I’ve really put some time in to. I genuinely appreciate any comments you may have and any shares you may send.
    *UPDATE*
    I ended up just buying a black fitted queen size sheet and slipping it over the frame once I was done. This was definitely the best idea.
    *KING SIZE*
    I've made a WHOLE video for this one now. Please see the 'videos' section on my channel to find this awesome DIY video.
    I have not personally built any of the following bed frames so these measurements are approximate.
    *TWIN*
    I really don’t know that I would try to build a floating bed frame for a bed with the dimensions of a twin due to the tipping risk, so I’ll say if anyone is going to do this, do it at your own risk, and please be careful. On my queen size, I had a 12” overhang on 3 sides to complete the floating look. Due to the dimensions of the twin mattress, I’m going to shorten this to 10” to hopefully provide more stability and keep it from tipping to one (long) side or the other (long side). Make sure that your mattress measures what appears to be the standard 39”x75”. Building it exactly as I did in my video, the cuts for the base will be 2@65” for the outside & 5@16” for the center supports. Your frame cuts will be 2@75” for the outside and 6@36” for the center supports.

    After endlessly looking for a nice solid bed frame to buy, I came to the conclusion that most reasonably priced bed frames online are made cheap. I decided to look up a diy & came across this video. I followed all of his measurements & instructions. I couldn’t be more happy with the outcome. Completed it within a few hours. (My first diy project.) It’s very stable & looks amazing! Thank you for this video!

      @Mya Swisher Hey Mya, you are an absolute hero for taking the time to come back and leave your awesome comment and feedback here. I really appreciate that a whole bunch! I would agree with you on the ‘reasonably priced’ stuff. I’ll pin this comment so it is the very first one that every single person will see when they go to the comments section on this video. I greatly appreciate your support, your time, and most especially your feedback for everyone else. You are *awesome*! Sleep well. I hope to get another glorious comment like this from you down the road. Talk to you then.

      @Myles King Hey Myles, thanks for stopping by and voicing your concern here. A quantity of 10 2x6 boards may not be enough for this queen size build, depending on how you are going to do it. I don’t know if you’ve seen the other videos on my channel, but I’ve since modified this bed frame twice to include a storage base and a headboard with more storage too. As far as the length goes, I think my thumbnail picture may be a little bit deceptive. An 8 foot long 2x6 is 96” in length. Here in the USA, our queen size mattress measure 60” x 80”…so the longest the side board needs to be is 80”, unless you are adding the headboard, in which case would be 85.5”. I don’t see where the shortage is my friend. Does my explanation help at all? I’m on Instagram realc_love1. Feel free to reach me there any time and I’ll be glad to further assist as needed. I’ll talk to you again soon.

    My wife was very skeptical after I told her I was going to build us a bed. I have almost 0 experience with building things. I watched the video a few times and a couple hours later... boom we have a bed. This bed is rock solid and his measurements are dead on. We bought everything from lowes and spent right at $80 (except the lights). Thank you again for a great video and measurements

    Looked for a queen frame everywhere but couldn’t find something simple, strong, and low cost until I found this. My first diy project ever and I absolutely committed. I built it using 2x8x8 and had 0 issues. I wanted a little more height since I’m not using a box spring. I also plan on staining the base and laying a queen sheet over the top like you did. Just waiting for the leds and I have the perfect bed frame imo. Awesome video and tutorial. Thank you 🤝

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Před 7 měsíci

      @unescapablepain8796 Hey Pain, I can't tell you how many times I've heard variations of the first sentence in your comment here. *I* wanted a simple, strong, low cost version of what I came up with when I posted this video. You've already seen how primitive the editing is on this video but it's such a fantastic design that people around the world have commented on how much they love it! I just love that everyone that decides to build it doesn't ever have to worry about the bed post again. I'm telling you, this is a fantastic life power upgrade.
      Again, I can't tell you how many times I've heard variations of your second and third sentences here too! You build a small box and then you build a box the size of your mattress. Done deal, easy day...seems like anyone can do it. That's what I was shooting for. I couldn't find anything that was super easy...like...regular person could just up and build them a new floating bed frame if they wanted one. Lots of people have recreated this bed frame in many different variations. I'm glad your build went well, this is fantastic news! In the absence of a box spring, you are gonna need either cedar fence pickets or plywood to support the mattress. Otherwise, it's gonna sag in between the joists in the frame. I hope this is something you've thought about 🤦‍♂️ .
      If you want to spend the effort staining the base, you can, but you are likely not going to see it unless you have a vantage point from far away....I'd recommend saving that time and effort. The fitted sheet over the top is *definitely* the way to go. I'd do this a million times again.
      Perfect bed frame in your opinion...and mine...and lots and lots of other people's too! You are very welcome. I'm glad you are at this level of satisfaction with your new bed frame and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, talk to me, and support this channel. That's super cool of you. Make sure to check out the 2 other queen size floating bed frame videos posted on this channel already before you get too married to what you've got right now. I modified this one to include storage in the base and I added a headboard in a third video. Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to talking with you again down the road. Take care P.

      Of course, hindsight is 20/20 but others have used either plywood with holes drilled in it or cedar fence pickets slightly spaced apart to allow the mattress to breath for support in the absence of a box spring. You are all done now though. Enjoy your new bed frame 🤝

    Thank you, C_Love. I didn't scroll down far enough in your instructions to see that you recommended the base at 49 wide. I went off your Queen bed and realized that the foundation was 60% width of the 60 wide top. So when I built the king, I built the width of the foundation to 60% of 76 wide which comes to 45 5/8 as opposed to the 49 I read about after the fact. So far, it's rock solid so thank you again this is one of the best instructional videos around.

    Just built this. Took about 3 hours, easiest design on CZcams for solo construction. Having a box spring makes the top of my bed waaay too high off the ground, so I had to add a cardboard layer stapled all around the top of the frame to distribute the weight evenly across the bottom of my mattress. Masonite sheets would be the next step up for support, but plywood will be overkill. Absolutely love the bed. The amazon link in the video brings you to a 2 pack of LED tape, i bought one 16 foot strip (same brand) at half cost because that's all that's needed for this project.

    Built this bed frame today. Measurements were dead on with one exception. The center braces for the base should’ve been 18, 34, 50 once the ends were connected. Since we have a memory foam mattress without a box spring, I opted to use 2x8’s for my base, 2x6s for the mattress base with plywood for the 60x80 top to get the right height that fits me and my wife. This floating platform bed is rock solid! I’m a 6’2, 375lb football player and with the 2x8 base and 2x6 top, it does not tip at all when I sit on the very edge of the bed or the foot of the bed. Thanks for the excellent video!!!

      I was also thinking 2x8 for base so i can get a little more height since im just using a memory foam mat without boxspring. My question is..by going with the 2 x 8 for base will you be able to see the base at all under the mattress or does it still give the illusion that the mattress is floating?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Před 4 lety +2

      Ronald Romero Thanks for your comment Ronald. I would imagine a 2x8 base would give even more of the floating illusion, be every bit as sturdy and still have the base hidden. I’m sure you could do this and get the results you are expecting.

      @B2theKM Hey B, thanks a lot for your time and feedback, I can’t tell you how invaluable it is. I’m really glad this video was able to help and you are a real hero for sharing it with your friends and family, just make sure and send them to my channel or video please. There actually is a way to convert this in to a king size, believe it or not. I used my board stretcher and the lumber from the queen size to make the king. I am the only person I know that has a board stretcher as I inherited mine from a legendary carpenter. Without that tool, yes, you will need to build a new one. Not to fear though, I’ve got a video for that one too, annnnd, it’s a whole lot better production than this one. The price of lumber has come down quite a bit too so it shouldn’t break the bank. Thanks for your question, I hope this helps, and I’ll talk to you soon.

I used 2x12's for the bed frame and 2x4's for the crosses and made it just a tad wider and longer so the box spring would set inside leaving the base frame alone and it worked perfectly! Just waiting on the lights to complete the aesthetic.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Před 3 lety +2

      @El Saucey Hey Saucey, thanks for your time and interest. Yes, this frame will absolutely (negatively) affect your mattress if you don’t have either a box spring or some plywood as a base. Huge shout out to you man. Built this bed over the course of 2 weekends based off of your shared measurements. I used 2x8 for the base and 2x4 for the mattress support. I then ran 3 Douglas fir 4x4 posts along the head, core and foot of the mattress to further support the weight of memory foam mattress. Then added all kinds of cross supports off of the mains to where it looks like a checker board and added Simpson strong ties pretty much on every corner, 30 in total, then slapped sheet and a half of Masonite on top to evenly support the mattress. Then the leds lol. Filled all screw holes, sanded and am going to put a coat of flat black paint on it this week to clean it up. Thanks for your video and it's awesome, and presice measurements. I only altered the mattress frame to 79x59 and still used your base measurements. Thanks again

      @Joshua Garcia Hey Joshua, wow, thanks so much for this very detailed comment of yours. It only took you two weekends to build this? Impressive...and who was this for?!! Seem like the governor or the president maybe. You put a lot in to your build. It sounds like you really could park a tank on there...or a couple. And 30 Simpson strong ties! My man...this bed frame is hurricane proof now. Instead of the flat black paint, you could just put a fitted queen size sheet over your assembly there and it should fit nicely with your modified 79x59 measurements...just a recommendation, I don't think the mayor will be too thrilled with that lack of effort right at the end though. 😂 Thank you for your feedback and your description, you are the real hero here. I'd sure love to see what this masterpiece looks like. Did you happen to take any pictures of your build? Talk to you soon Josh.

      Royal Wilson Thanks a lot for your time and compliment Royal, I really appreciate it. I can accommodate this. Using 2x8’s instead of 2x6’s would give you an additional 4” height, would put the deck at 15”. No box spring would add another at least 3/8” for the plywood. There are quite a lot of comments on this video now, but user ‘wrecking crew’ is also apparently a very substantial man and he modified this build in a similar fashion to what I just recommended and said it works great! @flipzy403 Hey Flip, thanks for stopping by and I apologize for the delay in my reply, I've been working on a very time consuming and sensitive project, but I got it done! Double size, got it. If you are going to use a sheet of ply, I would drill several 1" holes in it to allow the mattress to breathe. Others have used cedar fence pickets but I always stick with recommending a box spring.
