    The fact AI prompters have to generate sketches and WIP's to appear like legitimate artists just tells me how desperate they are to fake their skills and how little respect they have for even AI generated images.

    And please don't say indie is the solution, because the vast majority of indie animation struggle to crowdfund anywhere near what they need for a living, and fail to reach even a million views. Indie studios are great and making animation out of love and passion is aspiration, but they are not a replacement for the entire animation industry because the unfortunate reality is executives have the money and animators kind of need to eat food to live. Will say, as someone who has taken several commissions this seems like a nightmare. With this tool, given that it is common for artists to send sketches to clients to see if it is ok or not, commissioners can just be ghosted after seeing that sketch.... since the AI could technically "finish the piece for them."

    Traditional artist here! I have a question for digital artists. To be clear: I think that you are legit artists and I respect you and your medium/tool choice. The question I am going to ask is only due to my curiosity and my lack of knowledge about digital art, not to any discredit I want to drag you in. How would you compare this AI tool with the lineart stabilisation tool I have seen in some speedpaintings (I don't know if it has a specific name)? I struggle a lot with lineart, it's all wobbly, and sometimes I envy digital artists who have this tool to make beautiful smooth lines. It's ok, we use different tools. But this AI lineart thing, how similar or different is it? What differences or similarities do you see between letting a program improve your line trajectories and an AI improving all the lines in a drawing? Or, for example, between stealing a sketch and tracing it with the stabilisation tool, or giving it to the lineart AI to ink (it's theft in both cases, but is one case more artistic or more artificial than the other)? I am genuinely curious about your opinions, surely more informed than mines. And also I am not equating digital art to AI pixel clumps, but this is a specific case in which my ignorance makes it difficult for me to distinguish between the two, that's why I am curious about less ignorant takes than mine.

    • @elisehalflight
      @elisehalflight Před 4 dny +2

      Well... I don't use stabilization, so I'll let other digital artists answer this. But I believe the main issue is control.
      I had to disable stabilization because it would turn my lines smooth and unnatural when I aim for a sketchy charcoal on rough paper tecture in my lineart, and I believe other artists juggle with the settings according to their style and needs.
      But they still have an input on every line and a feedback from the program as they draw. While here they finish the sketch and the computer does all the interpretation without a proper back and forth during the proccess, for many people the end result may be a different piece all together.
      I've used Ai tools to color sketches I had no intention on doing anything important with ( like a painting for a Minecraft building) and I always got that feeling that the end result is wildly different from what I would've been able to make if i colored it myself.

    • @elisaelisaross

      @@elisehalflight Thank you for sharing! I'll wait for other digital artists who consistently use stabilisation to answer, but your comment is nevertheless interesting, it gives me an idea of a possible approach to digital art, and I am grateful that you took the time to write it!

    • @trinidyj
      @trinidyj Před 4 dny +1

      I use stabilization in my drawings (10-15%) all the time, but my lines are confident enough to where I barely notice. However, the difference is the input, so to speak. If I were to steal a sketch, trace over it, clean it up and finalize the product all with the use of stabilization, it would essentially be equivalent to simply using a tool (i.e. using the liquifying tool on my line art) and still working with effort to make an artwork I am satisfied with. Between an art program with this built-in tool to improve my lines and their shape vs. an AI tool that improves all the lines in a drawing and producing what it thinks looks appealing, the AI line art feels more like theft and cheating to me. However, I can accept that I am biased. But in my opinion, comparing the line stabilization tool to this AI technology is like comparing using a dictionary/Thesaurus to using AI generators in my writing to get an end product. There is still thought, and effort put into the writing while being aided by a dictionary, but the end product still comes from my mind as well as the meaning of the work, similar to my final line art as it does not come from any AI technology.
      Overall, the entire concept behind the AI tech in the video is terrifying since I do both digital and traditional works. I do genuinely fear theft would rise so much for both digital and traditional creators and their sketches, but I can only hope something is created to counteract this.

At first glance I thought it would be a tool that traces over your sketch and produces clean lineart based on that - this would be super helpful for those of us who struggle with doing lineart but actually make their own art. But instead, this is really just a tool that generates an AI image while taking your sketch into consideration. It’s essentially useless for actual artists.

  • @Lakeside80

    This tool is clearly malicious. When I heard about it, I thought it would take your rough sketch and smooth out the line, which would be great for animating. But instead it interpolates your sketch and tries to add in stuff and figure out what things are. That is not helping line art, that is creating something out of anything. Which means non-artists will just draw a crappy blob and the AI turns it into whatever.

  • @hobocraft0

    Bruh 'tools' like this are so deceptive too, they dont solve any problems that can't be solved already in better ways. Artists who get injured from drawing/ extended desk hours etc need better healthcare access and better working conditions- less hours and less demanding turnarounds so their bodies can rest. Every stroke in a drawing is a choice and thats what gives art it's soul! Programs like this can't replicate any of that and are shifting the focus away from how we can help artists' health and wellbeing just because it's a quicker and faster way to solve the problem, but does it infinitely worse while stealing from these same artists :(

    All gAI hurts artists and everyone, and it's not a tool

    I'm starting to think we would really be best off going back to traditional art. At least physical pieces have a little more protection from this AI stuff. Although that's not entirely safe either of course. I've been inactive in the art world for a few years and in that time things have really been turned on their head. Makes it hard to know how to approach it anymore. At least my work has a long history going back 15+ years online and is recognizable. I feel for the artists who are just starting now.

    Maybe just post part of the sketch instead of the full sketch? It won’t prevent people stealing it but at least not your full idea?

    Didn't somebody do this with a Yor Forger illustration a long time ago? I feel like I heard about this awhile back.

      Probably. It happened a few times before this. I remember two instances where someone was live streaming them drawing and someone dropped their sketch into AI and "finished" the art before the artist

    I swear, the reason why AI tools like this always come out butchering art and never ACTUALLY being helpful is because they slap generative AI onto everything, instead of building a unique algorithm from scratch. An actual algorithm that calculates the shadows + lighting based off the colors you paint (without relying on a database of stolen art) is the only way to keep artists' integrity in their artwork.
    But nah-- AI companies would rather cut corners.
