I sent this to my dad almost a decade ago along with a message about how his addiction was killing him and I couldnt stand waiting for that phone call.. he changed his life around after that and had some good years, but ending up passing from the damage caused in 2017. This song will always make me emotional about him. I miss that dude.
Thank you SO MUCH for not overdoing the vocals. So many covers try to belt it Christina Aguilera style when it's not that type of song. The strength of the lyrics and the story get lost. Your rendition is different from Tracy's but still carries the strong emotions and story-telling aspects of the original. Great job!

I think you probably made Tracy really proud with this cover. It’s one of the most covered songs ever and to take it and make it your own, even with all its grittiness and despair, is something few can do.
I have found out recently that I have reached an age where I can honestly be amazed and fully appreciate how amazing things are. I Love Tracy Chapman Boyce and Kina did nothing short of amazing with this cover.
The way the "oooo", "ahhh-ohhh" vocalizations lead into the "i" that starts the chorus is one of my favorite things. So clever, but it still feels completely organic and flows naturally.

I listened to this song on Apple Music and immediately fell in love with it. The song was one of my top 5 favs back in late summer of 1988. These two young talents made me relieve my youth. I just had to watch the live video.

Boyce Avenue was one of my inspirations to learn to play the guitar back in high school, same time when this was released. I watched almost all their videos to learn how they play and sing and I can say I learned a lot. Feels good to grow up witnessing these people deliver beautiful songs and covers.
Like you guys, especially the Tambourine & sand shaker. What a simple 3 person band, yet so much of excitement stirs up just by listening. I like the simplicity, you guys will rock billions of fans one day.

Her voice doesn't work for me in relation to the male vocalist. For example I really like the girl they have guest sing on "Closer". This one doesn't sound right for this track. Plus, I really didn't see the need to turn this into a duet in the first place.
It's just an opinion though - I'll never say the girl cannot sing. I just did not care for her on this track.
