I was an AmeriCorps member that worked in Alabama in 2019 when a tornado ripped through killing 23 people. I worked directly with people affected by the storm, be it through home damage or the loss of a family member. All we could really do was sign them up for government assistance, but honestly I could tell that just being there and offering help had a big impact on the victims. I just want to say this, survivors of these events deal with some very difficult emotions and trauma that linger for a long time. If you ever have someone open up to you about their experience with a natural disaster please offer as much sympathy and understanding to them as you can.
Yes the trauma and memories last for a very long time. I went through a tornado in 1989 and still sometimes have nightmares about tornadoes. So do have sympathy for the victims who lose everything. Praying for them
As someone who experienced the 2011 Tuscaloosa Tornado, my condolences go out to everyone. I hope everyone stays safe and hopefully gets a quick recovery.
You don't have to imagine. If you can offer any kind of help, they could use it. If you have people who were under this storm system, check on them. Even if house and body are ok, at times like this it's nice to know some one cares. I am grateful for all who survived it.

I can’t believe how lucky my mom and step dad were. They live less than an hour from Mayfield. I remember her calling me telling me her power was out last night and that she couldn’t sleep because of the tornado warnings blowing up her phone and worrying her. I feel horrible for everyone who is affected by the tornados :/

im from mayfield. our town is literally destroyed. so many of my close friends lost there houses and the candle factory so many people are missing. my town is gone. jm so heartbroken and hurt because you cant prevent something like this. this was by far one of the worst tornadoes in history.
It is unprecedented how the National Weather Service issued These Warnings in some cases an hour before the tornado struck in an effort try to and save people's lives from these deadly tornadoes. The National Weather Service did an outstanding job and likely have saved hundreds of lives in their effort to try and warn those communities that were in the track of these long lived tornadoes.
I stayed up all night once the first alert hit my phone, followed by all 4 sirens near me going off at once. It was super creepy knowing that a tornado touched down less than 30miles from me and heading my direction and the outside was just lighting up like mad but no rain, no hail, just loud wind. Thankfully my area was spared but 10miles from me was not. I hope everyone recovers well.

I lived through an F5 here in Kansas. Its devastating in so many ways ! Lost my grandma in that twister. She had a ranch style brick home & there was not a scrap of material on her land after the tornado. Rescue found her 4 blocks away in the rubble ! Praying for these people !

Ive never experienced a tornado before. I lived in florida for hurricane irma but we had days to prepare for the worst. I cant imagine what that must have been like with no warning.

I literally FELT this coming like a day and a half before it hit. My nerves were HUMMIN'. I didn't know what was comin' or when, but I KNEW somethin' was gonna happen. Then this morning I woke up to a power outage and what was already the previous day's news. I told a couple people I felt somethin' and it was HEAVY-- I was mostly ignored or even outright not believed-- but I tell you, I KNEW.
This was weather modification. (gookle it) Its path is laser like as with such clean breaks vs wind like crumbly breakaways.... You may have been feeling the effects of the HARRP system in prep for the next days devastation. Similar to the No CAL Fires (ie., Paradise fire) ...You may be like me and a growing number of human and animal beings, EMF sensitive.

I'm no expert, but my guess would be that the tornado didn't even go through this area. The damage in a straight line was likely the debris of the tornado that was still 1,000ft away from this area. A mile wide F5 tornado touching this area on the ground would likely have leveled this entire area.

I was terrified when I heard the warning. We went to Paducah, In fear that our home would be turned into a pile of rubble. I’m still shocked at the final death rate. An EF4 hit mayfield, 40-50 minutes away from where I live.

Tornado siren has gone off for a real tornado warning about 100 times in my town and a tornado has yet to drop. You just never know when the siren blares if you have anything to really worry about or not. I keep waiting for the day we aren't so lucky. Haven't been hit since the 50s.

I can’t believe how lucky my mom and step dad were. They live less than an hour from Mayfield. I remember her calling me telling me her power was out last night and that she couldn’t sleep because of the tornado warnings blowing up her phone and worrying her. It is unprecedented how the National Weather Service issued These Warnings in some cases an hour before the tornado struck in an effort try to and save people's lives from these deadly tornadoes. The National Weather Service did an outstanding job and likely have saved hundreds of lives in their effort to try and warn those communities that were in the track of these long lived tornadoes.

I stayed up all night once the first alert hit my phone, followed by all 4 sirens near me going off at once. It was super creepy knowing that a tornado touched down less than 30miles from me and heading my direction and the outside was just lighting up like mad but no rain, no hail, just loud wind. Thankfully my area was spared but 10miles from me was not. I hope everyone recovers well.

Why don't we track these PATHS and make it illegal to live there and move all these people to SAFE STATES . There are "safer" states, and you can't blame them for wanting to live in the BEAUTIFUL states, now can you? These people LIVE PREPARED! My aunt had a farm in beautiful, little, Port Byron and a tornado she said "Picked up one of the horses, and carried it over to the huge "rock " fencing, to a neighbor's farm, and placed it down in THEIR pasture totally uninjured! After that last tornado I experienced;, I bought that train ticket to California! (not that we don't have our own weather problems!) God, forbid we have a tornado and an earthquake happening "Simultaneously Someday?! "

Правда, в нашей мощной стране - эти пострадавшие все получат помощь, уже сейчас доставляют воду, продукты, расселяют в места, где есть незатронутые помещения. Вот, 70 чел.погибли, по предвар.данным. От милого города Мейфилд -одни развалины. И столько погибших... Я бы ни за что там не жила. У нас на востоке страны - ничего такого смертельного не бывает. Я бы всем советовала перебраться в другие штаты. Такие торнадо в в этих трех штатах там - слишком частые, каждые пару лет даже людские потери...

Ive never experienced a tornado before. I lived in florida for hurricane irma but we had days to prepare for the worst. I cant imagine what that must have been like with no warning.

I literally FELT this coming like a day and a half before it hit. My nerves were HUMMIN'. I didn't know what was comin' or when, but I KNEW somethin' was gonna happen.
Then this morning I woke up to a power outage and what was already the previous day's news. I told a couple people I felt somethin' and it was HEAVY-- I was mostly ignored or even outright not believed-- but I tell you, I KNEW.
This was weather modification. (gookle it) Its path is laser like as with such clean breaks vs wind like crumbly breakaways.... You may have been feeling the effects of the HARRP system in prep for the next days devastation.
Similar to the No CAL Fires (ie., Paradise fire) ...You may be like me and a growing number of human and animal beings, EMF sensitive.

I'm no expert, but my guess would be that the tornado didn't even go through this area. The damage in a straight line was likely the debris of the tornado that was still 1,000ft away from this area. A mile wide F5 tornado touching this area on the ground would likely have leveled this entire area.

I was terrified when I heard the warning. We went to Paducah, In fear that our home would be turned into a pile of rubble. I’m still shocked at the final death rate. An EF4 hit mayfield, 40-50 minutes away from where I live.

Tornado siren has gone off for a real tornado warning about 100 times in my town and a tornado has yet to drop. You just never know when the siren blares if you have anything to really worry about or not. I keep waiting for the day we aren't so lucky. Haven't been hit since the 50s.
