Today I ranked and thoroughly analyzed every one of Le Sserafim's songs based on their dances/choreography. This includes Antifragile, Perfect Night, Blue Flame, Impurities, Unforgiven, Eve Psyche & the Bluebeard's Wife, & Fearless! The only song I didn't include was No Celestial and that's just because I didn't think it'd be fair to rank it since it really only has two pieces of actual choreography (as it's intended to be a more fun moment with the audience than an actual dance). A few things:
    1. Please remember to stay respectful in the comments! If you don't, you'll be blocked (trust me it's not worth the effort since I'll prolly never see it anyways cause I'm no longer the one filtering my comments!) That said, disrespecful doesn't mean disagree, as long as it's with good intent, I'm more than happy to have debates in my comment section :)
    2. Don't forget to share your unprovoked kpop opinions/confessions in this google form here ↓ (it'll stay anonymous) May or may not be used for a video 😅 docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScYRC_43chsGGf-jaJy5_QSeddKauj7Th_sSsyKI-PHNboEsw/viewform?usp=sf_link
    3. I'm genuinely sorry for pronouncing Eunchae's name like Yoonchae for the first half of the video. (thx for those who let me know ❤) idek what was going thru my head tbh cause I usually pronounce her name correctly :(
    4: Let's js pretend I wrote & said "Eve, Psyche, & the bluebeard's wife" correctly haha 😁

Fearless is very on beat so it was quite fast to learn. It's clean, and easy to calculate move to move. But I've never thought of how much the dance emphasizes the music

Love the video, personally I would’ve ranked Eve higher just because I feel the weirdness of the choreo matches the weirdness of the song. It’s a song with abrupt stops and changes and I think the choreo fits that. Also the insane timing on these girls for this song is so satisfying

The last part of the analysis is really on point. Watching lesserafim's performance makes you question who really is the main dancer or who is more skilled, but the choreography actually helped in letting the members highlight their own charisma making it look like everyone is really good in dancing.

Your attention to detail is incredible! Especially when you point out different people dancing to the lyrics vs the beat of the song, I swear that’s the coolest thing, which I would never even think to look for
Ballet do be like that… I had such a hard time learning kpop dances when I first tried it because I was used to each move having a name, and being able to hear “piqué arabesque, chassé, tour jeté” and knowing the exact series of like four relatively involved movements to do, whereas kpop dances felt like argh! everything is its own thing that you have to learn all on its own! (Starting with a fast, relatively complicated dance like DNA probably didn’t help…)
But really, it’s so fun that there’s so much freedom in what can be done

The Unforgiven Choreography was not bad and I liked it, Unforgiven both as a song and Choreo is so unbelievably OVERLY hated. Its actually insane. And people are so damn OVER dramatic, y'all be acting like its the worst song/choreo you've ever seen/heard. I really don't get the over hate for it, its incredibly catchy and addicting.

@@KOOLICIOUSFACECARD it's their worst title track, my opinion of course.

      @random_teengirl Před 5 měsíci +23

@@flowersglisteninglikeglassI understand you may like the smoothness and the way it looks but in my opinion even tho unforgiven is a very good song , the choreography looks awkward and stiff
Seems like a bunch of random embarassing moves put together with few good parts that don't last long

    • @random_teengirl
      @random_teengirl Před 5 měsíci +18

@@KOOLICIOUSFACECARDLMAO first of all , I like unforgiven I just think the choreography is mediocre
Second , people 'over hate it' and 'act like it's the worst' because it IS the worst coreography from le sserafim, not the worst coreography ever but the worst from this group
That just means the fans are so used to amazing coreography that seeing such coreo as mid as unforgiven is disappointing and surprising at last .
A coreography being catchy doesn't make it good , makes it tiktok friendly .

You should make a video about how tik tok ruined the trajectory of kpop choreo. There was such momentum, especially with 4th gen going wild and breaking bones, that came to a disconnecting halt when tik tok challenges became their companies primary target. For example, Lisa is the best dancer in BP. Prior to her solo, she would do dance performances for her solo section of concerts. The chorus choreo of Lalisa completely disregards that she finally had the chance to shine and instead focused on simple. Another example is Treasure Dararari, Itzy None of My Business, and even Unforgiven by Le Sserafim. It ruins the momentum when certain songs go hard in the choreo and then the chorus comes on and it is very clear they are meant for ig purposes and it ruins it.

I absolutely loved this video (and the aespa one as well)!!!! as a dancer myself I loved hearing your takes and it's easy to tell a lot of effort was put into these videos.
I'm glad you mentioned that your final ranking was based on your personal taste because I think at the end of the day that's what dance is really all about. like there is no one objectively best kpop choreography out there that everyone can agree on because every dancer values different aspects of choreography (formations, footwork ect). which is why everyone's rankings are different and no one should be getting mad at your list and overall commentary!!
I hate that people in the kpop community are so negative and defensive sometimes (always) and I'm sorry for all the hate this video has gotten. do whatever you like with your channel and don't let other people stop you from doing things you like!

Very well made video , le sserafim is my favorite group and I'm also very interested in dance analysis (I have some myself) so I was really excited to see this pop up
But I'd like to add that I (in my personal opinion) would have added eve psyche and the Bluebeards wife higher (I'd have put it in second, with antifragile in first)
I understand that you may found some moves Awkward but I think it is actually very detailed and fits the song's concept, message, instrumental and even vibes
The rap part inst THAT bad but also not very impactful so I get why it's lower on your list, since they only made the message clear in some points but honestly the dance parts in kpop raps are always not very good..
I think eve psyche and the Bluebeards wife is a very detailed song that requires musicality and speed
I'd say it's one of le sserafim's most solid choreography yet with impurities, perfect night and ofc antifragile

For some of the issues you mentioned in impurites (e.g the eunchae being out of the loop in the starting formation, and the weird sequencing), this is just a theory but impurities may have been choreographed before Garam left and made for 6, which could have been why these moments don't feel like they should be.

I wasn’t a huge fan of it either. I felt like it was too energetic/hard-hitting for the music, except the 2nd half of the chorus which was perfect
I also didn’t like that some of the moves felt oddly sexy for a song whose lyrics are “just vibin’ with my besties.” Especially that whole “look at my butt” sequence on the prechorus. And in the chorus on the line “I’m dancing with my girls” Chaewon makes this flirty “come here” gesture towards the audience/camera which felt out of place. Lots of odd hip gyrations and pops as well which felt not only out of place but generic.

Unforgiven was definitely the group's weaker comeback in most aspects, we barely had new music, the choreography was awkward af, and we got a whole different concept than the teasers promised. I do think that most of the choreography (All of Lesserafim's choreography in general) is still questionable considering that they have a minor in the group, but the groups overall stage presence and charisma really saved Unforgiven's choreography for sure.

Love this sm, this is what I’ve been wanting to watch so much, I’ve learned all their dances and what you said about fearless is so true, the beats were almost unlocked in my mind because they emphasized it through the choreography. The only thing is I wish you added the great mermaid because it is so complex and really makes the lyrics more meaningful and throughout the dance the formations seem clean because they go for the theme of one member controlling the others’ moves (the controlling member changes as their parts come), and even in some parts where there isn’t a controlling member like the chorus, the moves chosen are very unique and complex with lots of attention to detail, the post chorus as well with its tappings on the beat or the “love story yo” where they stomp on every syllable. What would you have ranked it? Also what would you have ranked fire in the belly? (I would’ve love to seen no celestial and no return but I totally see why you didn’t because they aren’t as thought out and are mostly vining around)

i actually have a big problem with the unforgiven post-chorus choreo. i think it's lazy, repetitive and boring (except for the last post chorus, that ones kinda fun). it doesn't feel "unhinged" enough, as the song's theme is about an unhinged "unforgiven villain" that doesn't care about society. that goes for the whole chorus choreo honestly. the whole choreo kinda feels like a first draft. a good first start, but needed a lot of work before being showcased/published

I'll have to disagree on Yunjin's back bend on Unforgiven being unimpressive. Girl is singing her parts with a live mic consistently, including this one. Which is actually quite hard to remain stable on due to inner tension affecting breath and voice control, as if doing high energy moves wasn't already enough.

this video is so interesting, as a fan i've noticed that some of their choreo (especially unforgiven) can have parts that look so awkward, but i also find thier choreo to be really pleasing to watch overall. i was wondering, would you be interested in doing a newjeans choreo analysis video like this?

baby jam’s choreo to unforgiven is so hype compared to the original. i love the western sound and the dramatic bridge into the chorus. the original choreo doesn’t do the song any justice.

i felt like i was crazy for not liking EPATBW as much as other people seemed to, the intro choreo that they repeat for the chorus was so cool to me but i was immediately confused and expecting something better? more powerful or groovy? when they kept doing that cute-hands-butt-out hopping move and it was driving me nuts 😭 but this was an interesting watch and i agreed with a lot of parts, like the unforgiven crawling part... i feel like they wanted to sort of subvert the "sexy crawl" choreo move but in the wider context of the choreo there are just a lot of things that feel off to me

I just want to say a little theory I got from watching the video
You know how you talked about the start of impurities being a little weird since all of the members interlock expect eunchae, but I think they might done it on purpose and made it to act as an impurity to show how they aren’t perfect (since that’s kind of the theme of the song) making the overall picture look nearly perfect but have one impurity

  • @oofedget

I LOVEEE your attention on the moves some opinions-
I do think that I like ot6 Blue Flame choreo more becuz when they do the "will o the wisp o babe" part in ot6, they all move equally like before the part plays, the centers make a great job going to the edge. Even if Eunchae/Garam always are hidden, they still make the choreo amazing.
I LOVEE FEARLESS CHOREO! the moves are like beats and the intro was PERFECT. Also, I like how they avoid that always one member is always hidden like:
    3
    1 2 4 5 6
    But instead they opt for:
    1 2 3 4 5 6
    Or like:
    1 2 3 4 5 6
But yeah also my only problem is when Chaewon was center and in the left there is 3 members but in right it has 2. It kinda angered me-
For ANTIFRAGILE, I think it wouldve gone well with ot6- look i keep mentioning ot6 here but like imagine theyre choreos😭 and even in the intro, theres always a spot in the center so 3 is standing and 3 is kneeling- and after Kazuhas pillyohae its amazing how they like move and make a good transition and theyre antititi part hits the beats so well-
For UNFORGIVEN, I still don't know how to feel with it. But with them performing with figure skater(idk her name sorry) they showed an ot6 position- I kinda like it becuz most of the moves dont hide a member so yuh
For me, Perfect Night is like so GOOD. its so cute how in the choruses, they do theyre own thing and own moves so it doesnt look bland or boring becuz they do the same moves- so i like how they make theyre own moves becuz like yeah its a perfect night and u can do whatever u want so yeah

  • @starkindler756
    @starkindler756 Před 5 měsíci +2

Hmmm, I find it interesting that I think the complete opposite from you on several topics and I'm wondering whether this is a difference in taste or a difference in accounting for the "target audience" of a choreography. In particular, I think I'd agree more with your comments if Le Sserafim were a dance crew and not an idol group performing to their fans.
In Unforgiven, I love the parts that you hate - to me, the held movements are the points when the audience goes WOW. Cutting them off quickly would almost feel anticlimactic as a fan watching the performance since your attention is snapped up by a new movement before you're fully able to appreciate the picture.
Further, this move is almost surely tailored for performing "to the camera" rather than a zoomed-out view so that you can focus on Chaewon's facial expressions and give her room to (theoretically) sing, and the same is true for me about Yunjin's final chorus in Fearless.
On a similar note the "like a LION" move in Antifragile feels like an "audience participation" moment - a very simple gesture that the audience knows to expect and can perform together with the song to feel immersed.
On the other hand, I find a lot of moments that you praised to be... unimpactful? The Unforgiven final chorus, the start of Perfect Night feel more disconnected to me in somewhat of the same way that Jam Republic's EPTBW felt simultaneously too full and too empty - the beats and music are highlighted, but the dance is so full of movements that are flowing through each other that nothing ends up sticking in your mind.

I never liked EPBBW's choreo either and I was so confused about why it was so well received. It's actually my least favorite. While I agree Unforgiven is "objectively" their weakest choreo, I think it suits the members' styles far better than EPBBW does. While watching Unforgiven stages I'm thinking "If this was any other group they'd look freaking stupid" but while watching EPBBW stages I'm thinking that the dance might look better if it was performed by a different group of dancers, which is not a thought I'd like to be having while watching a performance... (not trying to imply the members lack skill, but I feel the dance requires a different skill set/style)
Blue Flame definitely looks better with 6 members. They did a decent job transforming the choreo for 5 but there is still some awkwardness in the formations/transitions.
This was such an enjoyable video!! Interesting content and a great sense of humor :) I will be looking forward to more

for good parts i do believe that the choreographer made it for 6 members since there cb was already being planed earlier so garam coul have been in it thats why maybe the beginning was awkward and the part wer they go up one bye one. just i thought idk. and i was wondering why you took the rhe 5 member choreo of blue flame since i saw many praise the one witv six members. i would be kinda interested how you would compare the two versions yk
i loved the video tho even if idk shit about dancing you explained moves and fomations well ❤

IM SORRY BUT THE LAST CHORUS ON UNFORGIVEN MADE ME LAUGH-
Honestly for me EPATBW has good choreography. IT got SO overplayed in tiktok and 10273927493749373 remixes to the point I dont enjoy the song anymore.
Also, I LUVVV when the members like do theyre own move in the chorus, like example in the the way that i feel and so on, girls do theyre own move so it doesnt feel bland i love it.
