- In this video I go through the basic equipment you will need to light and photograph graduation portraits in your small home studio. Beyond Ambient Light
A One-on-One Online Photography Workshop
The aim of this 1-HOUR long workshop is to develop your vision and style with the use of off camera flash.
I will discuss with you habits you should be developing before you actually click that shutter as well as the basics of off-camera flash photography, light manipulation and posing. Then finally, we will implement these learnings through what I call ‘DeConstruction’. I guarantee you it will be a fun way to learn and will be a critical step to improving your photography.

Thanks for the lesson Jiggie. Make more live photo day videos please. Whereby you start capturing as you arrive at a school, set up, preparation, shoot, etc till thee end.
I like that technique where the subject closes her eyes then opens up and smiles when the shot is to be taken. The subject’s expression becomes very natural and not forced. We get this awkwardness in the expression on grad, resumé or family portraits where the eyes just stare and the smile is unnatural.
Glad you picked that up :)
Thank you for the tip; I am a teacher at school that needs to learn all these so we do it ourselves too
You’re welcome
Exactly what I need! Thank you very much, Sir Jiggie!

You’re welcome
congrats to you, your wife and, of course, your daughter. it is always good to celebrate the good. i also have a small home studio where i do portraits and head shots. i am thinking about employing a strip box in the same manner you have demonstrated. i had been using a speedlight set-up in one corner but often get hot spots, especially on balding older men. i was hoping the strip box would lessen the hot spot and broaden the light to illuminate the shoulders. thoughts on strip light vs speedlight as a hairlight? thanks for the effort and the sharing. i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
the strip box would make a really big difference :)
Thanks for this very helpful video, as usual. I would like to know how do you establish the power setting for each speed-light based on your setting on the camera?
By eye, basically I look if it looks good to me
Sakto..magawa nga rin to sir Jiggie.salamat po..
Don’t forget to have fun!
Thanks sir Jigs fo this very helpful video, may project sana ako noon like this na grad pic. d ko lang kinuha kasi d ko pa kabisado, and because of this vid. nagka idea na ko, thanks ulit :)

Maraming salamat po Sir Jiggie sa video na ito..
You’re welcome
Maraming salamat sir, new subbie here
Welcome :)
1st comment. Yahhhhhhh
Nice!
Sir Jiggie, can you explain the technique of closing the eyes before smiling? Is it to relax the face?
and to make sure you dont get them mid-blink
Relaxed mouth and eyes giving a more natural smile, plus it lessens the possibility of blinking when the flash fires
How to do this with two speedlites only?
Sir 1flash and reflector for grad pic or portrait please. Thanks.
My mom overheard the part where he said "this is how a normally shoot kids". She stormed in my room to see what I was watching.
Do another video that shows what u are gonna use in a professional graduation photo setup, like with strobes and everything.
It’s the same.
I've tried to take a picture in the mirror while the external flash is on. The flash fired off, but in the picture the flash seems to have no light at all?
good day sir. are u using lightroom for printing sir? can i ask for preset sir? thank you
Hi Sir, any tips po on graduation ceremony? What would be an ideal lens to use? Like kukunin yung pag walk at receiving diploma
sir same lang din po ba yan kapag ung softbox na gamit eh yung pangkaraniwan lang..yung mga nabibili sa lazada or shopee?
What is your monitor? Could you show how it is set up and connected to the camera?
Atomos Ninja V
sayo ako natoto sa flash shoot thanks
You’re welcome
