Ridley Grifn: Is it the ultimate N+1 killer?

- For Ridley, The Grifn, a bike that at one point was to be called the Kanzo All, a name that I feel sums up its intent better than its launch name, is a bike they're hoping should be their N+1 killer. You'll find it sat somewhere between their road bike and gravel offerings, a bike we were informed, that should blur the lines between the former and latter riding categories. A modern take on what "all-road" means in 2022. It is aimed squarely at not one subsect of the cycling industry but a whole swathe.

Shoddy is the person that keeps me tuned in to Cycling tips especially after their recent cull
Hail shoddytips
Thanks, that means a lot at the moment - Dave
Ha ha, we will see - Dave
@@VeloVeloVeloTV I will tune in to Dave whatever company he works for
I always appreciate that Shoddy just tells it like it is.
I try my best - Dave
Shoddy, you deserve a raise.
Yes, you're quite right - Dave
Finally a good looking Ridley, I might consider coming back having ridden an old Noah RS and Noah SL few years back.
i kno what you mean. I have an old Ridley cross wind, this one does something for me too
"Shoddy" was not shoddy on this one! I have always enjoyed Ridley bikes, especially their CX bikes. This GRFN looks superb. A good selection for an all terrain endurance bike. Chapeau, Shoddy.
Fair enough! ;) - Dave
Always good to see Shoddy. Ref. N = 1, the Cervelo Aspero is pretty much the same as this Ridley and will do road and gravel well, with two sets of appropriate wheels and tyres. Like all of these N = 1 bikes, it compromises in both directions. I started with an Aspero and have been very happy with it, but having gradually expanded to have a dedicated road bike and a Ti gravel bike, they are both materially better at their jobs to make it worth choosing N = 2 if budget allows. If you are doing a lot of mixed terrain and want to do it fairly rapidly rather than comfortably on the gravel, then these carbon fast gravel bikes are great.
My contenders for N-1 are Supersix SE, Addict Gravel and TCX Advanced Pro. All due to the same reasons, horizontal (almost) and general great look. TCX is a tad too stiff for my liking though.
LOL
What about Ekar? I don’t like shimano road shifters since owning Ultegra and 105. My Campagnolo Chorus is so precise and reliable I don’t want to use any other make now.
I'm not sure if they offer that. You'd have to jump on the site and see. But I do like the look of Ekar, a great mechanical choice. - Dave
A bit of bike noise during that first shot. Creaky bb already?
Neat! 32mm is a bit low for gravel, but in the video it looks like you’re sporting a tad wider ones even with the 2-by setup.
it's a mistake acording to website it can take up to 38mm tyre with 2x or fenders, check info from Ridley site "the Grifn is a fast and comfortable road bike ready to hit the offroad with its maximum tire clearance of 38mm. There’s even the possibility to go to 40mm tires if you run a 1x drivetrain"
Yeah, very clearly riding 38-40mm tyres with a 2-by setup in the video..
Yeah, I made a mistake. Got my 2 and 8 mixed up. It is a 38mm for a 2x groupset. I get it right in the written article. Sorry - Dave
Top bike e +++++TOP location!!!
I see Shoddy I press like
The N +1 bike already exist. It’s called the trek Domane. I put 28mm for road and 40mm for gravel
Of course it does. But that doesnt mean ridley doesnt want a piece of the pie...
a lot already exist... Canyon Grail, Look Optimum+...
Trek is boring.
You cannot change crank length.
I recently discovered your channel and you can't believe the stage of my happiness 😇 I left you a subscription 😎 Would love to see you around 🤗
Hmm i can get this for 1,9k now but that tire clearance. 32 with 2x and only 40mm with 1x. I want 45, i think.
That's a bargain. - Dave
Glad Shoddy hasn't lost his job.
Well, not at least yet. Keep him just for his accent please!!
8.5kg not particularly light??
nope, not with this groupset, but you could probably shed some wieght with better wheels and decent brands (Niner for example) build gravel/offroad frames with a few grams more to make them less fragile
Sure, agree. The YT i recently reviewed had Rock Shox and a dropper with Force AXS, alloy wheels and still came in 500g heavier. Though I will say that the Rival though heavy is great. - Dave
well ok then
Grassel bike
It’s the same bike as every other goddamn bike. 😑
Totally agree! Fucking boring!
some bikes can't fit wider tyres, but yes - all frames will begin to look almost the same soon so you might as well save some money and buy direct from China, like WInspace.
Exactly, and with the stupid one piece stem/bar it will be pretty much impossible to actually dial in your fit correctly unless you are prepared to spend a good deal of cash buying additional one piece bar/stems. 🙂
Looks like a solid bike, but so long as it has a one piece stem/bar no thanks. Far too difficult to dial in one's position, make adjustments, and get the bike exactly as you'd like with that type of silly set up.
