every retail worker and fast food employee watching this is currently sobbing with flashbacks
A lady like an hour ago literally handed me $12 when her order was 12.29 and I just fucking gave up and gave her the food
That's what I thought. I was like "This person has seen some $h!+. They know that feeling."

I should make a character that's just tired of being in conflicts and is just tired and sad like this.
I've never seen Alex roleplay before but i utterly adore the slightly pathetic but still very funny way they play Conrad 😂
yes omg, they totally came out my unexpected fav from the episode
Conrad is a complete wubby and I want to protect my poor boy
I adore the way they're playing the embodiment of the conscience. With their best friend, justification, who is, of course, a dog.
They're the only one I'm unfamiliar with and really stole the show in such a stacked cast with this scene😂
What is Alex from?? I've never seen them before until now. Loved their roleplaying!! Actually everyone this episode has been great! It's refreshing and fun to see some new faces. I think everyone - especially the newbies - bounce off each other really well!!
“If I’m a good person then I couldn’t possibly have done anything bad” is such abuser logic, I have chills from how accurate that is
"I'm an empath, so how could you ever accuse me of being unempathetic?"
@@gersomvanslooten9456And that one got me. I swear I hear people use that term and I get real side eye-y.
See I think it's kind of a baseline assumption everybody makes about themselves, to some degree, though. Abusers dial it up to 11, but everyone sort of operates in the realm of "my actions are justified, and therefore good."
@@Firegen1 Agreed. But you can't claim empath as an identity. Emapthy is a quality which you have or you can acquire, but which you also hone and maintain through effort. Manipulative people conflate the feeling of sympathy for someone with the act of being empathetic. You might actually feel for someone's circumstances, but be unwilling to adapt according to that person's needs. Telling someone you're sorry over and over isn't empathetic. You might actually feel sorry, but so long as you are unwilling to change the negative sides of your behavior, you're not empathetic.
Edit: I am adding an ammendment to this as I don't really agree with what I previously wrote. I would argue that empathy is partially a feeling, partially an act. The reason why I would say empathy is empathy is also acting on something is also because I've experienced who, identified themselves as an empath or as empathetic and then used that to implicitly back the claim that they're always empathetic. The really jarring part of this is where they're implying that because of their supposed inherent empathy that they're always on the right side of a discussion, i.e. they're always right. They're effectively weaponizing empathy which might be the complete antithesis of empathy. Ironically, I don't suspect people are felling particularly empathetic when they're employing these sorts of strategies. Considering the amount of sentences I need to adequately dissect what is happening in these sort of situations, I think it's clear how backhanded this behavior is.
@@gersomvanslooten9456 I think that’s extending out past what empathy means. Having the ability to understand and feel for someone else’s situation doesn’t mean someone has the ability to change their own behaviors. E.g., someone struggling with addiction might be able to see how their behaviors are hurting people around them, but be unable to stop. I think empathy and accommodating behaviors are definitely correlated, but you can be incredibly empathetic and still not understand how you need to change your own behaviors or have the skills to do so.
"I gave him all the facts and he made a choice..." Epic line for this character 😄
She needs to say that again standing over the dead body of the BBEG.

As much as Brennan is amazing doing back and forths with chaotic characters, his interactions with pathetic characters is vastly more entertaining
E
"I gave him all the facts and he made a choice" is one of the low-key funniest lines in D20. Ever. It's so good!
I still love the "You have about... thirty seconds left to make a decision. If you do go through with this, what do you want me to tell your family?"
Paraphrasing a lil, but the gist is there 😂
It really sounds like something a DM would say
Brennan just seems like "wtf... I was not prepared for this level of submissiveness"
Omg right in the feels!
Just want to bundle this person up & protect them from ppl like that.
What a relatable & precious character!
Very much so. The speed with which they tried to pivot to asking to forget they said anything is - it's...hard for me to not read into.
Conrad is the biggest wubby and I need to protect him
a casual Monday morning for all retail employees
Get a better job, I work retail and if a customer like this ever spoke to one of my team like that they'd have words with me. Our GM is former military and I've seen him tell customers to go "fuck off with your attitude".
It's not about the type of job it's about the company. When a company has to make a point to tell it's employees "we care about you", they don't. When a company can display it cares about you enough that it doesn't have to tell you it cares, then it does.
I have never worked for a really good company like that BUT ive worked for maybe 2 managers who i would respect because they protect and respect their employees. Almost every manager forgets that respects a two way street

Same, they’re so quick witted
Oh no, this is a little too relatable for me
“I gave him all the facts and he made his choice and that’s okay” reminds me of when I was taking to a friend about a conspiracy theory he believed in and no matter what I provided him with, he didn’t budge and repeated the same things (that had been disproven, which I also provided him with) 😂
ThTs a great line omg “I gave him all the facts and he made a choice”
so incredibly fascinated by the implications about elias hodge. the setting is my favourite character.
his conscience is a sad little orphan boy no one listens to and was once written off as a childish 'wayward interest,' kept under the watchful eye of someone called Madame LOATHING. hm. wonder what the implications are there. elias bro i would PAY to be your therapist
the offscreen "okay..." after brennan yells "NO, I think it was IMPLIED-" is so good.
That “okay” was from my soul lmao a tired introvert who just wants this difficult social interaction to be over 😂
The idea of the conscious being a pushover is a scary idea
....this is TOO relatable

This guy is the part of your brain that cannot, will not admit to being wrong? A dad who is definitely lost but won't ask for directions. Anybody who believes in the Mandela effect.
I was thinking he was cognitive bias. "A good guy can't do something wrong so you must be calling me a bad guy"
I think this is the "Immense but Totally Untrusted Indignation" center of the brain
Everyone has had a Mandela Effect moment.
@@Prodigi50yeah it’s called realizing you remembered something incorrectly.
@@RagenRibbonz Yeah, along with a bunch of people remembering it the same way you did. The Mandela Effect isn’t used for just misremembering a thing, it’s a bunch people misremembering something the same way. It’s not just a person being a stubborn jerk if others are validating their memory.
Just the one episode in and I think this is one of my favorite series yet. Learning about snakes, Schadenfreude is hilarious and so many moments like this one. Plus the setting is Primo
Alex is amazing beyond words
"no one gets as angry as a man being accused of something he actually did"
This is such a perfect representation of conscience, it's crazy good
I love how the dog is played by Owen Wilson.
I’m so used to Brennan having the overly-aggressive but actually nice npcs that it legitimately throws me off when they are actually mean
When he asked if a Good Guy can do a bad thing, i was really hoping they would get randomly deep and say, "sometimes, the world's a strange and scary place and they're just a guy in the end"
God damn
I wasnt ready to see my relationship with my dad laid out so thoroughly and detailed like that
Hits different...when you know this pattern from home, not retail.
I see a lot of love for Conrad/Alex here. But I also love what Brennan is doing. He's that part of the brain that rationalises poor behaviour. Because maybe Elias has done something like that. An accidentally underpaid someone or misunderstood a situation and then got aggressive as a defensive mechanism.
Brennan is going to blow his superhero alter ego of the Gaslighter if he's not careful.
The “you told me that I’m a piece of shit” “…yeah” Got me 🤣
Working in retail be like

I've never seen Alex before Mentopolis but I need more of them 😭 Conrad was so adorable and they're such a good roleplayer
This has such Gorgug “Are you my Dad? I hate to bother you, but I just had to ask” Energy.
When she said "I have stash just for this ocasion." Hit hard as for me. The fact that I would always carry a $20 in 1s. Because I had customers that would pay wrong and have a problem when I tell them they still owe. Then my drawer would end up short at the end of the day, so I would pay to the rest for the drawer. So my manger wouldn't chew me out. 😂
Sounds like conversations I've had with my parents and grandma
Alex is fantastic, but also Brennan as Anger from inside out is also fantastic
seeing hank green with his hair again makes me happy and sad at the same time :')
This gives flashbacks
Conrad is the definition of a cinnamon roll.
Behold: a masterclass in Kantian ethics.
God this is what it's like dealing with fast food customers as an employee, I feel like they really channeled that energy when playing their character
I think "I Think You Should Leave" inspired Brennan's performance here and I love that
This is me during any confrontation ever.
This feels like I'm looking at my younger self. It kinda hurts.
alex as conrad is INCREDIBLE
I love DnD Because 2 people could be arguing intensely in character then just drop it immediately right after and be like “that was good!!!”
that "..okay..." was singlehandly the MOST "I work in retail" sounding reply I've ever heard lmao absolutely 10/10
