Ok, my hometown is a suburb of San Jose, where I lived in and around most of my life. My grandmother’s family knew Sara Winchester, and she was absolutely a superstitious woman (as most were during her time, ) that wanted to try to right as many wrongs as she could brought on (as a local medium pointedly told her,) by the Winchester rifle. You broke my ❤Mush, by talking about how badly declined the house has become. When I was a little kid, it was absolutely beautiful, with human guides for the tours, and impeccable landscaping. I’m devastated to hear what time and disregard has done to such a stately property. 😢😢😢. The part that really brought me to tears about Sara’s story, was the speculation about what was in her HUGE vaukt. It took a long time for anyone to get permission to open it, as it was surmised that their would be untold millions in cash and treasures. When permission was finally granted, and the local press was bearing witness, the vault was empty save one “treasure”. A single golden locket containing a lock of hair from her daughter and husband. That, my friends, was the biggest treasure-worthy of housing in an enormous vault-that meant the most to her in all the world. 😁💜👍🏻
I didn't have the benefit of having a personal connection, but I did the best I could with 3 weeks of daily research ( I'll supply sources before public release). There's more rumor and folklore than documented fact due to the time period and Mrs. Winchester's reclusive/ private nature. A lot of the "documents" like news articles from the time period were more like society gossip columns than actual facts. So I just pulled from various sources and added varying info trails where there were discrepancies as best I could.
When we were there there was still human tour guides but they were scripted with ghost stories more than historical info and supplemented with audio recordings. The worst part was the fake "ghost" sounds and sights. The house interior was really degraded and not at all preserved imo. Just a really big disappointment to see something that must have once been so beautiful, so run down inside.
@@Mushmellow79 I think you did a great job telling what was able to be discovered! Im glad you brought her story out! My great grandmother said she didn’t want to see people (especially politicians,) because sooner or later, they all asked her for money and she didn’t like not knowing who was a friend and who wasn’t. I’m glad her story lives on, and am so sad that they’ve let her beautiful estate just sink into disrepair. It used to be so incredibly beautiful. Thank you for the walk down Nostalgia Lane! This was very interesting and honestly people rush to judge I think she was grieving normally and just invested time into a hobby to have a life of happiness
I agree. I think the house was her hobby (like Diamond Painting is for many of us).... something to help keep her mind occupied and kill time in a happier place mentally while she waited to join her family. Maybe that's why she rarely stopped construction.... because without being active in all that, her mind had time to wonder into the pain/grief.

I Diamond paint in the dark too 😆 same deal: light pad and TV 😀 I live true crime and ghost shows as well!
When I went several years ago, it was well cared for and no sound machines.

I’m not even halfway through but I love this!!! The whole series so far… I enjoy learning backstory and history (especially when it’s slightly creepy!) 🖤❤️🔥🖤
However, whenever I hear about Sarah Winchester all I can think about ( fortunately or unfortunately) is Supernatural 😂
Also reminds me of Stephen Kings adaptation of Rose Red too!!
That's kinda what have me the idea tbh.... Leah is watching supernatural through, again for the umpteenth time, from the beginning but first she watched the prequel Winchesters. So I was hearing that name a lot while trying to pick a "ghost" or"haunted" related story and since we've been to the mansion it was a no brainer.
I think we went there in 1990? I don’t remember ghost sounds or projector stuff. But man the feelings I had especially in the kitchen (which if I’m not mistaken was the only one?). I’m convinced it’s haunted. I saw the movie but it sucked.
It's very possible! I wish I could have put more everything in there. There's so many stories and claims etc. But if I included EVERYTHING I found in my research... this would've been a 12 hour long video! 😆
