Talking about how I build a gravel driveway with ballast and road bond in the mountains of North Carolina!!!
My other channel-“Beekeeper Todd”- / @beekeepertodd407
Stoney from South Carolina very good information on repairing muddy driveways
Thanks 👍
Bang on
Sir you are excellent in explaining! I love watching the videos but I have learned so much pulling up your explanations while the work is being done.
You guys aren't anywhere near here (Vermont), but wish you were; rain and floods we just had made all our driveways look like Utah with canyons and gullies and all sorts of washouts. Appreciate the video - thanks for posting
Nice work looking good!
Nice
Your videos are awesome man! Thank you for educating me!
My pleasure 🙏🏻
Extremely low audio
chunky bottom, fill the other layers progressively with finer...can't go wrong.
Here in Ohio we call those big rocks 1’s and 2’s. Great video one.
Hey man this here's Donnie Baker y'all know anybody wants to buy a boat? State law. Swear to god it is.
?
@excessivehuntingdisorder3503 must’ve been a Bob and Tom joke reference I’m not familiar with
Good video Brother.
Thanks for making a quick simple video about this.
I have a driveway I need to run 30 ton trucks on. I have a large amount of topsoil that’s not economical to remove. Will a geo textile fabric suffice under the course 3” stone to help prevent settlement?
Does crusher run refer to a specific type of stone or just the method of making it and aggregate size ?
Thanks for the advice! I think in my area they call the bigger stuff 3” minus. Makes sense that you would want the bigger stuff to promote drainage on your base layer. What are your thoughts on putting down a geo-grid or driveway fabric first? I’ve seen mixed reviews. I would think you would tear that fabric up if you have to make repairs in the future. I’m not too concerned about weeds growing in the driveway.
Thank you for the information! What area are you in? Anyplace near Brevard NC?
Saw your comment on one of letsdig18 channel and decided to check your videos out .. Good job on the videos I subscribed and will be watching from now on .. Keep them coming !
Allen Breedlove Thanks for the support! I’m looking forward to many more.
Is your yanmar a 100 or 80 size ?
Allen Breedlove 80
How long after the ballasts do you put the crushed stone down?
Stone is called different things everywhere you go. It even varies from place to place here in Indiana. I wish they would standardize it…
They do. Look up 2B gravel that is for driveways and sometimes it is called #57 gravel. There are tables online but gravel driveway is that type and there are some other types in charts on the internet.
What do you think about using recycled concrete? We live in northern Indiana and will need to put in a construction access road that will eventually become our driveway. The soil is pretty moist most of the rainy season and the spring thaw.
I personally haven't used crushed concrete but I do have friends who say it works great
Seems like there is no standard terminology for grades of stone and depends on your area. I live next to Vulcan quarry in Penrose. It’s so confusing.
Exactly the way I'm currently building my driveway. I'm using one size smaller than railroad ballast, what they call #4 around here.
mhazel9551 sweet!!! Let us know how it turns out. Thanks for watching🙏🏻
I put # 4 on my road , it won’t settle down. It seem to just get worse with time.
Is rip rap the same as ballast? If not, is it still a good base for a sloped driveway (about 15 degrees)? Was going to put 8 inches of crushed limestone 304s over one layer of rip rap, compact and be done with it.
Great video!
Drive way!!!
Would 3” crusher run also work for a base layer then go back in 3/4” clean or crusher?
That's what I would do.
So, what do you suggest when you hired someone who thinks they knew how to build a driveway, but just wanted a chance to make money and completely skipped the oversized ballast and went with just 3/4"? The driveway looked good until it got used. Now it won't settle, doesn't offer a decent surface for traction and gets torn up any time someone tries to get out? I thought about trying to put down stone dust, or road bond and tamp it down. It's fine where it's flat, but it bends and goes downhill and that's where it's a mess. I actually live about 10 minutes from you guys, might just call you out if i can't figure this out myself.
Give us a call and we will be happy to come take a look
fabric or no fabric??
Fairview is where I live
About how thick should each layer of ballast and crusher run be?
3 inches on 3 inches minimum
What you call rail road ballast I thought they were called 3’s
Where I’m from the road bond is called hard pack or regrinds
Ive heard it called by many many names. Your the first Ive heard call it regrinds. Thanks for watching!!!
This stone pretty expensive bigger fraction called DOT 2
I hear what you're saying...oh wait, no I don't--I can't hear anything.
What happened to your helper Brandon ?
What areas you are operating? What about Clayton NC?
Albert Asmanov We go as far east as Winston-Salem
DigginLife 18 OK. Can you give me an idea how much can cost to build 1000 yards long 20 feet wide driveway on dirt?
I’ve got a guy close to you. Is there a number he can reach you?
My drive way is all down hill and no matter what I put on it it washes down the hill. Any help?
Sure thing. Go to my Facebook page. Southeastern Land Specialists, LLC and shoot some pics of driveway to messenger.
your gonna have to add drainage where the water collects
Gravel stabilizer
@@craigengelman4534 - *you're. The contraction of you are. It's really not difficult.
Turn all the rocks to face up the hill so they can't roll forward as easily.
any road fabric?
mike clark not on this one
@@DigginLife21 yup, every job is different and every region has its own ways off doing things.thats why i like these types of videos, good work.
@@mikeclark1733 you sir are absolutely correct. I myself enjoy watching other folks ways of doing the same types of projects. There is always a little bit to learn from all. Thanks for watching and commenting🙏🏻
How about making a video in Colorado at 9600 ft on raw land. Ill pay your airfare and you get a video out of it? Wife is a good cook too. Ground is rocky and hard.
Where's the underlay, fabric?
deborahlynnxyz would’ve been ideal but not in budget for this customer.
Audio is terrible, I couldn't hear you on my phone
What a shame I can't hear you, it looks like you know what you're doing and I would liked to have heard your wise words
I’m sorry brother. This is one of my earliest videos. The newer vids have a lot better sound quality
cant hear him
Huh
