  • Tyrannosaurids were among the largest carnivorous dinosaurs and are well-known for their big heads, powerful jaws, and tiny, two-fingered forelimbs. While fossils of these animals can be found throughout North America and Asia, the fossil-rich rock layers of Alberta boast a particularly diverse record of tyrannosaur fossils. Because of the richness of this record, much of what we've learned of tyrannosaur biology is the result of discoveries made right here in Alberta. Jared Voris of the University of Calgary discusses these discoveries and what they tell us about the biology of tyrannosaurs.
