Nuno is the guitarist that all guitar players know and love, and all non-guitar players need more exposure to. Easily one of the most underappreciated musicians of the last 40 years. For other song suggestions that I think you'd appreciate from their prime, Get the Funk Out has to be #1. Shows you their more hybrid style, and has another killer Nuno solo.

If and when you decide to give this band a second chance, I have one and only one recommendation. "Get the Funk Out" is, IMO, Extreme's best song with another RIPPING guitar solo from the criminally underrated Nuno Bettencourt. It is also a perfect example of the "funk rock/metal" side of Extreme's style. If you listen to that and you hate it, then this band just isn't for you. Which is fine. The fact that you guys sometimes don't like songs is why this is one of my favorite reaction channels. You don't pander to your audience like MANY other reactors do. This reaction went exactly as I expected when I heard you guys didn't know who Extreme was. Here's the thing - they are back, but they are not going to pickup any new fans. Nuno is a top guitarist of the 80s and still has what he did then. He's one of few guitarists that can actually make a full song into a long solo (Decadence Dance comes to mind). Extreme is a victim of bad timing. There simply wasn't much room left for 80's/hair metal when they broke and there still isn't with the evolution of rock when they have a style that's now dated and hasn't aged well. The other guys are good and accent well, but it's always been Nuno. Most people focus on the singer first in a band, and Gary's always had pipes. Nobody can escape age, but I've never thought much of his lyrics and he doesn't have the charisma and presence of say... David Lee Roth being in a band also carried by their guitarist. So, if you were never an Extreme fan, you won't become one in 2023. If you were, there's a fairly good chance you played guitar. I was(am), and I did. I didn't hear Cherone first - it was all Nuno for me, and it still is. If you listen to any other Extreme, you need to approach it with hearing the guitar first and if you can do that, you won't be disappointed.

Extreme has a very wide range of styles. They started out as kind of a hair/glam metal band, but with a lot of funk influence. Their biggest hit was More Than Words which made a lot of people associate them with ballads, ironically enough. Some of the stuff they did after that almost had alternative and grunge elements to it. Their newest album seems much more modern. One could say they changed with the times, but even within each of those times, I feel like they never fit into any mold. Extreme has always been quite experimental and known for doing things their way in the face of pressure from record company types.

Boys, your honesty is always appreciated, regardless. 🤟
Let me help. 1) Nuno is the Guitar Player in Janet Jackson’s song, “BLACK CAT”.
For a Song Suggestion, “Rest In Peace, Cupids Dead, Our Father, (Just about Any sing from That album - “ III Sides To Every Story “)”. For a surprise that anyone, not in the know, would *not put together, they are the band who wrote & released “More Than Words”. Yes it’s a quote unquote cheesy acoustic ballad, but it’s a bit of a Legend I’m it’s own right. Haha☺️
And yes, as a few folks folks mentioned, he worked with Rhianna for many years.
Anyway, you boys are fantastic, and again, always appreciate your honesty.
    Thanks,
    - Dion.

I also worked with Extreme in the early 90s with legendary clothing designer Terri King( RIP) I even got a TY in the liner notes of Porno Graffiti 😝 Terri also was designed all the wardrobe for Phantom Blue and was a belly dancer in the video I posted earlier

I love that Extreme is finally getting reactions - Nuno was my initial guitar hero hands down. Wanna say they formed in like 86/7 - That's actually always been Gary's voice, I always loved it

Ben - Gary sings most of this song in a passive style I haven't heard him use before when singing to a balls out rocker like this. It didn't fit the aggressive riff and nasty tone coming from Nuno on this one. The solo is already legendary! Got to hear other tunes from this coming album - been waiting soooo long for this thing!

@@NotBenCoultry I am digging the fact you mentioned Waiting For The Punchline album, which I think a lot of people haven't heard or even know about. Us Nuno fans will follow him wherever he goes, I paid big money for his solo stuff (japanese imports) and it was worth every penny - love those solo albums, Nuno can deliver on the mic! When I hear him play, I just think of the thousands of hours he's spent practicing and practicing, fingers calloused and bleeding! His playing immediately reminded me of King Edward, especially his rhythm playing, his riffs are so percussive and filled with deep grooves. Going to listen to Punchline and Saudes De Rock to hear differences in Gary's vocals. This is a special band, Pat's a hell of a bass player, and I was hooked deep on their music the second I heard their debut! Can't believe we've waited this long for new material! King's X also put me through this.....waiting, waiting, waiting and then.....waiting..... Take care.

@@treff9226 Messed up coincidence: I rebuilt a $100 Squier Strat last year because fender's custom shop quoted me like $6K on a guitar. I didn't mean to do it, but it's the exact color of his N4, but with a cream pickguard - a friend noticed immediately when I posted a photo
(looks more like the cream/mahogany SRV strat to me)

Anybody saying Gary sounded better back in the day is full of ish. He sounds exactly the same. Nothing wrong with that. I always liked the fact that his voice was so unique. Nuno is definitely the star of the show on this track. I like the fact that some of these bands are trying to bring back album rock. My only real complaint with this song is the double kick drum fill in the middle of the solo. Unnecessary.

You said it perfectly. It IS like a second coming for those who know them. To me, this feels like I'm back in the 80s, and I LOVE that sound! The fact they recognize excellent guitar work means they were being open minded about it though. We won't all agree on everything, but we all know someone needs to call the 🚒because that that solo was white hot!

One of the most underrated bands of all time. Since Rise was released people are only just now seeing Nuno for the amazing guitarist he is. Rise is old school Rock and i frickin love it. I've followed them from the start and Gary is a solid singer and together with Nuno, amazing songwriters. Three sides is just an amazing album. Waiting For The Punchline is jaw dropping in its writing and production. Unfairly roasted i say, dont dissect, just listen to the song and take it in as what its meant to be - good ole fashioned rock with one of the best solos ever!
